Father, son facing terrorism charges in alleged Toronto plot to stand trial in 2026
A father and son accused of planning an ISIS-inspired mass murder in Toronto have been ordered to stand trial next year. Lawyers for Ahmed and Mostafa Eldidi appeared in Superior Court in Newmarket, Ont., this morning. The court scheduled a six-week jury trial, to begin Sept. 8, 2026. The RCMP said the accused were "in the advanced stages of planning a serious, violent attack" when the men were arrested with an axe and a machete in a Richmond Hill hotel in July 2024. Ahmed Eldidi and his son Mostafa 27, both face a charge of conspiracy to commit murder, as well as terrorism offences. Ahmed Eldidi, 63, separately faces war crimes charges in connection with an ISIS propaganda video showing a man dismembering a prisoner in 2015. A separate trial on those charges, expected to last roughly five weeks, has been scheduled for Nov. 9, 2026. The RCMP said it marked the first national security investigation where war crimes charges have been laid in Canada. Lawyers for both Eldidis are scheduled to return to court on June 27 at 9 am. Both accused remain in custody.

Iraqi Counter-Terrorism launches operation against ISIS in Kirkuk
Shafaq News/ Iraqi counter-terrorism forces launched a targeted military operation in southern Kirkuk on Friday, destroying ISIS hideouts in a rugged valley long used as a base by the group. A security source told Shafaq News Agency that elite units from the Counter-Terrorism Service, backed by air support, conducted a field operation in Wadi al-Shay, within the Daquq district, south of Kirkuk, destroying several ISIS shelters used for movement and concealment. No casualties were reported among Iraqi forces, according to the source, who noted that further preemptive operations will continue in Wadi al-Shay and surrounding areas to sever supply lines and deny the militants haven. Wadi al-Shay is one of the most challenging terrains in southern Kirkuk, with dense vegetation and interwoven hills. It has served as a strategic hideout for ISIS remnants since the group's territorial defeat. The valley has seen repeated operations since 2018 by the Counter-Terrorism Service and Rapid Response Forces. Its location — linking Kirkuk with the Hamrin Mountains and stretching toward Diyala and Saladin provinces — makes it a critical corridor used by militants to move and launch attacks.

Why Trump's ‘two weeks' timeline for a decision on Iran is déjà vu for many
US President Donald Trump says he will be ready to make his decision about bombing Iran or not 'within the next two weeks'. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt offered this new timeline during her Thursday afternoon briefing, but some in the room couldn't help but feel a sense of déjà vu, as the phrase sounded more than a little familiar. 'I have a message directly from the president, and I quote,' Leavitt said. ''Based on the fact that there is a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks.'' As The New York Times noted, 'two weeks' is one of Trump's most favoured and most ambiguous units of time. Sample this. Trump was asked eight weeks ago whether he could trust Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump replied: 'I'll let you know in about two weeks.' Over the years, the same timeframe has been deployed for tax plans, health care policies, evidence of conspiracy theories, the fight against ISIS, the reopening of coal mines, and infrastructure announcements — all of which he promised to clarify 'in about two weeks.' As NYT puts it, 'It is a slippery thing, this two weeks — not a measurement of time so much as a placeholder. Two weeks for Trump can mean something, or nothing at all. It is both a yes and a no. It is delaying while at the same time scheduling. It is not an objective unit of time, it is a subjective unit of time. It is completely divorced from any sense of chronology. It simply means later. But later can also mean never. Sometimes.' The pressing question now is whether the US is going to bomb Iran? No one knows and we may have to wait two weeks to find an answer to that question. A reporter tried to pin down the timeline, reminding the press secretary of Trump's repeated 'two-week' promises, particularly in relation to Russia. 'How can we be sure he's going to stick to this one on making a decision on Iran?' Leavitt's answer? Essentially, that one situation can't be compared with another. As NYT says, 'This was really a question of metaphysics more than anything else.'

34 Soldiers Killed, 14 Injured in Militant Attack in Niger
Israa Farhan At least 34 Nigerien soldiers were killed and 14 others injured in a large-scale militant attack on the town of Banibangou, located in western Niger near the border with Mali, according to an official government statement. The assault, which took place on Wednesday, was reportedly carried out by hundreds of armed militants who used dozens of vehicles and motorbikes to launch a coordinated strike on the military forces stationed in the area. Government sources confirmed that dozens of the attackers were also killed in the confrontation, though no exact number was provided. The intensity and scale of the operation have raised serious concerns about the security situation along Niger's volatile border with Mali, a region frequently targeted by extremist groups linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS. The latest attack marks one of the deadliest incidents for Niger's military this year, highlighting the persistent threat posed by armed insurgent groups operating in the Sahel region. Authorities have not yet confirmed which group was responsible, but investigations are ongoing. Niger remains a frontline state in the battle against jihadist violence in West Africa. Despite regional and international efforts to stabilize the area, deadly attacks against military and civilian targets continue to occur with alarming frequency. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand
