Iraq condemns escalating violence in Gaza
Baghdad ( — The Iraqi government has strongly denounced what it described as the continued crimes being carried out by the Israeli military in Gaza, calling on the international community to take decisive action in response to the growing humanitarian crisis. In a statement issued by government spokesman Basim Alawadi, Iraq reiterated its firm condemnation of the targeting of Palestinians and the systematic obstruction of humanitarian aid deliveries to the besieged enclave. 'More than seventy martyrs have fallen and hundreds have been wounded in the past 24 hours alone,' Alawadi said, referring to ongoing Israeli bombardments. 'Among these were disgraceful crimes committed against desperate civilians gathered at aid distribution points, seeking food for hundreds of thousands of families deprived of life's most basic needs.' Iraq holds the international community responsible for its failure to address the root causes of the conflict. The statement cited the global inaction on establishing a political solution based on the Palestinian people's right to their historic homeland as a key factor enabling continued aggression. Baghdad reiterated its support for a just and comprehensive solution grounded in international law and UN resolutions, particularly the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. It warned that any alternative path that ignores these principles will only prolong regional instability. In addition to its political stance, Iraq demanded the immediate and unhindered entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and condemned the use of starvation as a method of warfare.

US airlines suspend flights to UAE and Qatar
Dubai ( – The escalating conflict between Iran and Israel is putting Gulf countries—including Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar—at heightened risk, leading to widespread disruption in regional air travel. In response to growing security concerns, American Airlines has suspended its daily flights between the United States and Doha, Qatar, after the U.S. embassy in Doha advised citizens and diplomatic staff to remain vigilant and maintain a low profile. As Washington mulls whether to assist in the war, satellite data indicates that dozens of U.S. military aircraft are no longer visible on the runway at a key American airbase in Qatar. This might be a preventative measure to protect the aircraft from prospective Iranian missile attacks. United Airlines also halted its daily route between Dubai and Newark Liberty International Airport, pledging to resume operations when conditions improve. Air France-KLM and Air Canada have canceled several flights this week to destinations across the Gulf, including Riyadh, Dubai, and Doha, amid the deteriorating security environment. Meanwhile, flights to and from Iraq remain suspended by airlines such as Emirates, flydubai, Middle East Airlines (MEA), and others, as Iraqi airspace remains closed due to the ongoing regional threat.

We are your fighters: Pro-Khamenei mobilization emerges in southern Iraq
Shafaq News/ A group of Shiite seminary students in Basra announced on Thursday that they are prepared to carry out suicide operations in support of Iran. The group declared loyalty to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and affirmed their adherence to the religious authority in Najaf [Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani]. The announcement, read aloud during a press conference, marks the first public mobilization of its kind in Iraq since the outbreak of direct hostilities between Israel and Iran. 'We do not condemn, we do not issue statements—we point our weapons at the chests of traitors,' the statement read. 'To Sayyed Khamenei, we say: we are your fighters.' The group called on the Iraqi government to move beyond 'cold statements' and enact sovereign action by immediately closing Iraqi airspace to any aircraft used for military operations against Iran, calling such a move 'the least level of response.' They further demanded the expulsion of foreign forces, singling out US troops as 'the most dangerous occupiers,' and described the American embassy in Baghdad as 'a poisoned dagger in Iraq's sovereignty.' Speaking to Shafaq News, cleric Sheikh Ali al-Maliki emphasized, 'The time calls for action, not compromise. We are openly declaring ourselves martyrdom projects in the hands of the Guardian Jurist, Ayatollah Khamenei, and we are fully prepared to defend Iran and confront the agents of the Zionist [Israel] project.' Meanwhile, in Babil province, residents of Al-Midhatiya staged a demonstration, raising images of both the Najaf clerical establishment and Khamenei, alongside Iranian and Iraqi flags. Protesters denounced Israeli strikes on Iran and pledged full solidarity with Tehran. The escalation comes days after Abu Ala al-Walai, secretary-general of the Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada armed group, warned that dozens of Iraqi "martyrs-in-waiting" are prepared to attack US interests if full-scale war erupts between Iran and Israel. Tensions have soared since June 13, when Israel launched a surprise wave of missile strikes deep inside Iranian territory. Iran responded that same night with massive retaliatory barrages. The exchanges have resulted in dozens of casualties and widespread infrastructure damage on both sides, triggering international alarm over the potential for a broader war that could destabilize the entire region.

Iraq's judiciary shaken: Judges' resignation threatens elections
Shafaq News/ Iraq's judiciary is facing paralysis after the mass resignation of Federal Supreme Court judges deepened a constitutional crisis tied to the annulment of the Khor Abdullah maritime agreement with Kuwait—threatening the country's ability to certify elections and uphold legal continuity. The crisis erupted after nine judges, including all six permanent members, stepped down in protest over what insiders described as mounting political interference, casting doubt over the November 11 parliamentary elections, which cannot proceed without the court's formal ratification of results. 'The judiciary's ability to function is now in question,' a senior judicial official told Shafaq News, warning of broader repercussions across Iraq's legal and constitutional systems. Other insiders cited dissatisfaction with court administration as a contributing factor, further complicating efforts to stabilize the institution. Parliamentarian Amer Abduljabbar, head of the Al-Faw Zakho Gathering, criticized the government's role in the standoff, warning of external interference in the appeals submitted by the presidency and cabinet to reverse the court's ruling. 'It is deeply troubling that the President and Prime Minister are contesting a ruling issued by the court—not Parliament—despite their constitutional responsibilities,' Abduljabbar said, adding that 96 lawmakers have signed a petition urging the executive to withdraw its challenge. He further accused Kuwait of orchestrating diplomatic pressure through the Gulf Cooperation Council and Russia to undermine the decision. 'The timing and coordination raise serious concerns about foreign influence,' he noted. Basra-based organizations, including maritime unions and tribal leaders, issued a joint statement backing the judiciary. 'We reject any attempt to compromise Iraq's sovereignty over Khor Abdullah. The court must stand firm and fulfill its constitutional mandate,' the statement read. The Federal Supreme Court had ruled on September 4, 2023, that Law No. 42 of 2013—ratifying the Iraq-Kuwait maritime agreement—was unconstitutional for failing to secure a two-thirds parliamentary majority, as required under Article 61/4 of the Iraqi constitution. While the presidency and cabinet maintain that the agreement merely organized maritime navigation and did not alter borders, legal experts argue the ruling reinforced Iraq's jurisdiction beyond border marker 162 and reaffirmed the need for proper legislative procedures.
