Metro Transit B Line to bring faster travel through Minneapolis, St. Paul
Metro Transit B Line to bring faster travel through Minneapolis, St. Paul originally appeared on Bring Me The News.
Metro Transit has identified Lake Street as one of the slowest places to get through in the Twin Cities, especially during rush hour. To combat that, Metro Transit is unveiling a new bus rapid transit route aimed at making trips 20% faster for riders — and it will debut this weekend.
Metro Transit's B Line will open to the public on Saturday, marking the culmination of two years of construction and the official retirement of Route 21. The goal of the new rapid route is to shave time off commutes reducing stops, getting riders on buses faster, us taking advantage of bus-only lanes.
The public transit agency says it picked the Lake Street corridor for rapid transit because of its popularity. Prior to the pandemic, Route 21 was the second-busiest bus route, with an average of 10,000 daily rides. The route brings customers through Minneapolis to downtown St. Paul along Lake Street, Marshall Avenue, and Selby Avenue.
Travelers who frequent the ride will notice a difference not only with the route, but also on the actual buses as Metro Transit will be using buses with more doors and bigger aisles to reduce crowding.
Opening day celebrations are scheduled for this Saturday at Union Depot in St. Paul and at Lake & Chicago. All B Line rides will be free Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

What's open and what's closed in Minnesota on Juneteenth 2025
What's open and what's closed in Minnesota on Juneteenth 2025 originally appeared on Bring Me The News. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021. The holiday, which lands on June 19, marks the day that the enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were told they were free. It was more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. Sometimes called Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, it recognizes the end of slavery. Because Juneteenth is a federal holiday, many services are unavailable. Though, many stores do remain open. As you're planning which Juneteenth events to attend, note that the below companies and services will not be open on Thursday, June 19. The U.S. Postal Service does not offer regular delivery on Juneteenth. However, Holiday Premium Priority Mail Express and Sunday/Holiday same-day delivery remain available. UPS and FedEx operate normally on the holiday, according to their websites. As it's a federal holiday, expect most government services, including courts, to be closed. Emergency services remain available. In addition to being a federal holiday, Juneteenth is recognized as a state holiday as well. That means public schools are closed. Most schools are out for the summer, but other services offered by schools, such as summer programs, athletics, and meetings, may not take place. Check with your school to see if services you use are unavailable. In the Twin Cities, Metro Transit will offer regular service. For other service providers, check before heading out the door. In Minneapolis and St. Paul, service will run as usual on Juneteenth. As is the case with most federal holidays, expect banks to be closed. U.S. Bank, Wells Fargo, Huntington Bank, Bremer Bank, BMO, and Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union branches are among the banks that have announced they will be closed on June 19. Additionally, the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ are closed. Parking meters are not enforced in Minneapolis and St. Paul on Juneteenth. Most malls, grocery stores, and retail stores will be open on story was originally reported by Bring Me The News on Jun 18, 2025, where it first appeared.

L.A. Travelers Can Now Skip Airport Traffic Thanks to This New Metro Transit Center
As of June 6, the LAX/Metro Transit Center is officially open, connecting Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to two Metro lines and 14 bus lines. Eventually, the LAX/Metro Transit Center will be directly connected to LAX via the Automated People Mover Train, but for now, travelers can take free shuttles between the two points. The center's opening comes just in time for several huge events that will take place in L.A., including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2027 Super Bowl, and the 2028 Olympics. In Los Angeles, people often say that the true test of someone's love is their willingness to pick you up from Los Angeles International Airport—enduring the traffic of LAX for a friend or loved one requires a certain selflessness and bravery. But now that the LAX/Metro Transit Center is open, getting to and from the airport could be a little easier. The new LAX/Metro Transit Center is located just outside the airport, near Aviation Boulevard and 96th Street, close to the LAX Rental Car Center. The new transit center is directly connected to the Metro's C and K metro lines. The C line links L.A.'s West Side to the east, running from El Segundo (where LAX is located) to Downey. The K Line runs north to south, going from the Jefferson Park neighborhood to Redondo Beach. The LAX/Metro Transit Center doesn't just provide travelers easy access to the airport, though. It also closes a key gap in the Metro's rail network by serving as a hub for the C and K lines. In addition to the two metro lines, travelers will be able to hop on 14 different bus lines at the new station, including Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus, the Culver City Bus, Torrance Transit, and Gardena's GTrans system. However, the LAX/Metro Transit Center isn't quite directly connected to the airport just yet. The Automated People Mover is slated to open in 2026, and once it does, travelers will be able to take the APM train from the transit center to LAX seamlessly. For now, shuttles will run every 10 minutes between the center and the airport, and will pick up and drop off guests at the lower level of each terminal. In order to ride Los Angeles' public transportation system (whether you're taking the metro or the bus), you'll need a Tap Card—you can purchase tickets and passes at any metro station or add the card to your Apple or Google Wallet for easy use. If you're driving into LAX from out of town, you could park your car at one of the L.A. Metro System's many Park & Ride facilities, and then hop on a Metro line to get to your flight. Los Angeles International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world, and since Los Angeles will play host to a few big events in the coming years, it will likely only get busier. The new LAX/Metro Transit Center debuted just in time for events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2027 Super Bowl, and, of course, the 2028 Olympics. The new metro center will hopefully take some of the pressure off of LAX-IT, the airport's ride-share hailing and taxi lot.
