The entire D.C. bus network is changing June 29. Here's what to know.
On June 29, every Metrobus line in the D.C. area will change. Some will disappear, others will go farther than they used to or down different streets. Hundreds of stops are disappearing, and all the routes have new names. The changes mark the system's first overhaul since Metro took over most of the local bus service half a century ago.

L.A. Travelers Can Now Skip Airport Traffic Thanks to This New Metro Transit Center
As of June 6, the LAX/Metro Transit Center is officially open, connecting Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to two Metro lines and 14 bus lines. Eventually, the LAX/Metro Transit Center will be directly connected to LAX via the Automated People Mover Train, but for now, travelers can take free shuttles between the two points. The center's opening comes just in time for several huge events that will take place in L.A., including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2027 Super Bowl, and the 2028 Olympics. In Los Angeles, people often say that the true test of someone's love is their willingness to pick you up from Los Angeles International Airport—enduring the traffic of LAX for a friend or loved one requires a certain selflessness and bravery. But now that the LAX/Metro Transit Center is open, getting to and from the airport could be a little easier. The new LAX/Metro Transit Center is located just outside the airport, near Aviation Boulevard and 96th Street, close to the LAX Rental Car Center. The new transit center is directly connected to the Metro's C and K metro lines. The C line links L.A.'s West Side to the east, running from El Segundo (where LAX is located) to Downey. The K Line runs north to south, going from the Jefferson Park neighborhood to Redondo Beach. The LAX/Metro Transit Center doesn't just provide travelers easy access to the airport, though. It also closes a key gap in the Metro's rail network by serving as a hub for the C and K lines. In addition to the two metro lines, travelers will be able to hop on 14 different bus lines at the new station, including Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus, the Culver City Bus, Torrance Transit, and Gardena's GTrans system. However, the LAX/Metro Transit Center isn't quite directly connected to the airport just yet. The Automated People Mover is slated to open in 2026, and once it does, travelers will be able to take the APM train from the transit center to LAX seamlessly. For now, shuttles will run every 10 minutes between the center and the airport, and will pick up and drop off guests at the lower level of each terminal. In order to ride Los Angeles' public transportation system (whether you're taking the metro or the bus), you'll need a Tap Card—you can purchase tickets and passes at any metro station or add the card to your Apple or Google Wallet for easy use. If you're driving into LAX from out of town, you could park your car at one of the L.A. Metro System's many Park & Ride facilities, and then hop on a Metro line to get to your flight. Los Angeles International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world, and since Los Angeles will play host to a few big events in the coming years, it will likely only get busier. The new LAX/Metro Transit Center debuted just in time for events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2027 Super Bowl, and, of course, the 2028 Olympics. The new metro center will hopefully take some of the pressure off of LAX-IT, the airport's ride-share hailing and taxi lot.

Reaction to shootings of MN legislators: ‘This is a stunning act of violence,' says Sen. Amy Klobuchar
Minnesota politicians and others are expressing their shock, horror and outrage at the shootings of Minnesota legislators on Saturday. Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman, DFL-Brooklyn Park, and her spouse were fatally shot in their home, authorities say; Sen. John Hoffman, DFL-Champlain, and his spouse were also shot in their homes. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Metro Transit also provided logistical updates in this developing situation: U.S. Sen. Tina Smith, D-Minn., told Minnesota Public Radio that she saw Hortman and Hoffman at the DFL's Humphrey-Mondale dinner on Friday night. Hours after the dinner, she posted her reaction to the shootings: 'This morning Minnesota woke up to news of a brutal act of violence targeting public servants,' Smith stated on X before the fatalities were announced. 'I am heartbroken to learn that our Speaker Melissa Hortman, Sen. John Hoffman and their spouses have been shot. I've worked closely with these fine legislators for many years. Archie and I are grateful for the incredible response of law enforcement and hope that everyone will be safe today.' 'This is a stunning act of violence,' U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., stated via X early Saturday. 'I'm thankful for all the law enforcement who are responding in real time. My prayers are with the Hortman and Hoffman families. Both legislators are close friends and devoted to their families and public service.' 'I am devastated to hear of the targeted shootings of State Senator John Hoffman and House Speaker Melissa Hortman,' said U.S. Rep. Angie Craig, D-Minn., in a statement on X. 'They are great public servants and friends. And today's news is shocking. I am closely monitoring the situation this morning, and Cheryl and I are keeping their families, colleagues and loved ones in our prayers. I'm grateful to law enforcement and first responders for their ongoing work.' 'This is horrifying,' stated U.S. Rep. Michelle Fischbach, a Republican, on X. 'As we learn more details, I'm praying for the victims and their families and hope law enforcement is able to find the attacker quickly.' 'I am horrified by the evil attack that took place overnight, and heartbroken beyond words by the loss of Speaker-Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark,' said Minnesota House Speaker Rep. Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring, in a statement. It's the end of the road for beloved bus route 21
The Brief Route 21 has been a key connection between Minneapolis and St. Paul for 70 years. Metro Transit is ending the route to make way for the B Line rapid transit bus service. The agency held a retirement party at its Nicollet Avenue garage on Friday afternoon for former bus operators and riders to share stories about their experiences on the 21. MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Metro Transit says Route 21 provides 7,000 rides every weekday, making it one of the agency's busiest routes. What we know When it comes to proper sendoffs, few are as unique as this one. Like any retirement party, there are speeches, proclamations, and, of course, cake, along with going-away gifts. But instead of celebrating the years of service of a longtime employee, the center of all this attention is a workhorse who also happens to be a bus. "To our knowledge, this is the first time we have had a party for a bus route we are ending," said Lesley Kandaras, the General Manager of Metro Transit. The backstory Metro Transit is retiring the Route 21 bus line that ran down Lake Street from Uptown Minneapolis to downtown St. Paul for 70 years. It will be replaced with the new B Line rapid transit bus service that officials say will be faster and more convenient for riders. "Route 21 has touched a lot of people's lives," said Kandaras. What they're saying Well-known playwright Kevin Kling wrote a play about the route named 21A that he performed off Broadway and around the world. "It was a bus where hardship knew hardship and people were always willing to help, and it was kind of like a family on that bus," said Kling. While the 21 is headed for its last stop, regulars are just grateful they were taken for a ride. "The B-Line is going to be faster, maybe a little nicer. Nothing will ever replace the spirit and the history that is the legendary Route 21," said regular rider Liam Hanley. The 21 will begin its final trip around 1 a.m. on Saturday morning. Then the B-Line will take over its route beginning around 4 a.m.
