City's top cop receives award at World Police summit in Dubai
Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner CV Anand who is also representing The HNEW- Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement wing was awarded the first position for 'Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award' at the World Police Summit (WPS) 2025 organised by the Dubai police.
This international recognition was bestowed upon him due to the proactive measures undertaken to curb drug trafficking and consumption in Hyderabad, awareness programmes conducted for drug control for students and public in the Hyderabad commissionerate limits, and the significant achievements made in this regard in the past three years.
At the awards ceremony held at the Dubai Police Officers Club, UAE, from May 13 to 16, Anand received the award' from the WPS committee. Speaking on the occasion, he stated that prominent police officers from 138 countries participated in the International Police Summit-2025. He expressed immense happiness that the city police H-NEW had won the 'Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award' after competing with highly efficient police forces from various continents. He acknowledged the hard work and dedication of his team members in achieving this prestigious award and extended his sincere gratitude to each of them.
Anand emphasised that this achievement is a matter of great pride not only for the Telangana police, but for the entire police force of India. He attributed this recognition to the innovative work practices and comprehensive approach adopted by H-NEW in controlling narcotics. Twelve police officers and innovators from various law enforcement agencies of 12 countries were awarded the first prize in various categories of law enforcement.
In a panel discussion preceding the awards function, Anand spoke about the issues of narcotics faced by India as a nation, especially after Covid, the ways narcotics are entering the country, the gangs and peddlers apprehended, the efforts to watch educational institutions through anti-drug committees and awareness campaigns, the rehabilitation measures.

Police conduct cordon and search operations in Tolichowki
As a part of the community connect programme, a cordon and search operation was conducted in the early hours on Friday. Police teams conducted checks in over 300 houses during the operation. As many as 28 African nationals were taken to the police station for passport verification. According to police, the objective of the programme was to engage with the local community, understand their concerns, identify social issues, and take action against anti-social elements. The initiative also aimed to curb drug-related activities, public consumption of alcohol, and other unlawful behaviors. The city police carried out checks in the Paramount Colony area under the Tolichowki Police Station limits. The operation was conducted between 5 am and 8 am under the supervision of Hyderabad Commissioner of Police CV Anand. This initiative was part of a Community Contact Program aimed at addressing local security concerns and verifying documentation of residents. The operation involved 250 police personnel including officials South and West Zone DCP Chandramohan, Additional DCP Iqbal Siddiqui, ACPs Sudarshan, Syed Fayaz, Vijay Srinivas, Mohammed Munawar along with 15 inspectors, 22 sub-inspectors. Police teams conducted checks in over 300 houses during the operation. Police also seized 28 two-wheelers, 2 cars and an auto for lacking proper documentation. Moreover, illegally stored domestic gas cylinders were recovered from one of the residences. Furthermore, 28 African nationals were taken to the police station for passport verification. Authorities stated that these individuals were unable to produce valid documents during the checks and as many as 16 foreigners were staying illegally with expired visas. Police said that legal action will be initiated against those found possessing invalid or expired passports. Also, cases will be booked against individuals who fail to produce valid passport documents. The DCP said 'The details of the foreigners will be sent to the officials of the Ministry of External Affairs, who will take a decision in this regard.' Another cordon and search operation was conducted at CC Nagar, Bansilalpet in Gandhi Nagar police station limits on Thursday night. A total of 250 houses were checked during the operation, conducted by a police team comprising around 200 Police Personnel including B Anand, Addl. DCP, Central Zone, A Yadagiri, ACP Gandhi Nagar division. During the operation, police seized 32 bottles of beer from the belt shop, 150 Gutka packets. Also, the police seized 80 bikes, a car and an auto rickshaw. Moreover, 3 rowdies and 8 suspects were also checked.

FIR against man who died to save worker in septic tank in Faridabad
Faridabad: An FIR was registered against the owner of a house who died while attempting to rescue a daily wager cleaning his septic tank last month. The case was registered on Wednesday morning against Mukesh, who sold eggs in Sikri village, under the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013. It was registered following a complaint by Anita, wife of the deceased worker Anand. On May 14, Anand and his colleague Ravi were hired by Mukesh to clean a choked septic tank at his house in the city. Without any safety equipment, both workers descended into the tank. While Ravi managed to escape, Anand collapsed after inhaling toxic fumes. Mukesh, who jumped in to rescue Anand, also succumbed to the gases. Responding to the family's alarm, neighbours rushed to pull out both victims using ropes. They were taken to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. The police were informed after that. "A leakage in the septic tank caused asphyxia. They had started to clean a small drain entry, but were told to clean the entire septic tank without proper safety equipment. Entering underground tanks full of toxic gases and without protective gear is extremely dangerous," said Vinod, the SHO of Sector 58 police station. Cases were registered against Mukesh under Section 106 of BNS (causing death by negligence) and Section 9 of the Manual Scavengers Act. Anand, who lived with his sister in Sikri village, is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son.

Faridabad mishap: House owner, worker die in septic tank; cops book deceased for negligence
Representative Image FARIDABAD: Over a month after the owner of a house in Sikri village and a daily wager he hired to clean a septic tank choked to death inside it, allegedly after inhaling toxic gases, police on Wednesday booked the deceased owner of the house. Police said Mukesh , an egg hawker, tried to rescue Anand —a daily wager from the same village—when the latter collapsed inside the tank. On May 14, Anand brought along Ravi to clean the tank at Mukesh's house. As the two descended inside it without any safety equipment, Anand inhaled toxic gases and fell unconscious, while Ravi managed to exit with Mukesh's help. The house owner then jumped inside to save Anand but succumbed to the fumes himself. Now, Sector 58 police have booked deceased Mukesh for causing death due to negligence following the complaint of Anand's wife, Anita of Palwal, who accused Mukesh of not providing safety gear to her husband before making them clean the septic tank. The accused was booked under section 106 of BNS and under relevant section 9 of the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013.
