Traffic speed in Hyderabad improved by 6 kmph, says Police Commissioner CV Anand

HYDERABAD: The average traffic speed in the city has increased by 6 kmph compared to last year, thanks to Operation Rope and other initiatives by the Hyderabad Traffic Police, said Police Commissioner CV Anand. Speaking to the media at TGICCC, Banjara Hills, he noted that around 1,600 vehicles are being added to the city's roads every day. A year ago, the average speed was 17-18 kmph, which has now risen to 24-25 kmph. Across the three commissionerates, about 91 lakh vehicles are on the roads, with nearly 70% of them being two-wheelers. 'Though vehicle numbers keep rising, a 6 kmph increase in average speed is no small achievement,' Anand said. He said Operation Rope helped clear carriageways and improve vehicle flow. 'We're following a systematic approach to manage VIP and VVIP movements across the city,' he added. Explaining further, Anand said police are now handling VIP movement in a more planned and efficient manner. 'Earlier, we used manual mode during VIP movements. But now we're slowly shifting to automation, using manual intervention only when necessary. Even Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed us not to block traffic unnecessarily for his movement,' he said. He added that CCTV cameras have been installed on top of 25 high-rise buildings in the city. 'These provide a bird's-eye view of traffic, helping us evaluate and manage congestion better. More cameras will be added soon.' The traffic police are also using two drones to monitor road congestion and manage traffic. 'The drones help us identify where congestion starts and builds up, so we can act on it quickly,' Anand said.

Average speed of vehicle in city is 25 kmph: Hyd'bad police chief

Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C V Anand emphasised that the average vehicle speed in the city has significantly increased to 24 to 25 kilometres per hour, up from last year's 17 to 18 kmph. The Commissioner attributed these positive results to the diligent efforts of the Hyderabad Traffic Police and extended his sincere thanks to everyone involved. On Friday, during a review meeting on traffic problems in Hyderabad City and their solutions, C V Anand noted that approximately 1,600 new vehicles are added to the roads every day. Across the three Commissionerates, a staggering total of 91 lakh vehicles are on the roads daily. During the meeting, the Commissioner provided guidance on the fundamental principles of traffic control and management. He stated that currently, 80 per cent of traffic signals in Hyderabad are operating on auto mode, which is effectively helping to clear traffic quickly. Regarding traffic violations, police are focusing on the quality of penalties rather than merely the quantity of fines imposed. This strategic approach, he explained, has led to a reduction in overall traffic fines. 'We are monitoring Hyderabad's traffic through drone cameras. To further improve Hyderabad's traffic system, we are taking assistance from Google. In addition to Google Maps, Google is also providing us with technical support,' he revealed. The Commissioner highlighted that, with the cooperation of owners of high rise multi storied buildings in Hyderabad, 25 'high rise cameras' are being installed on these buildings to obtain an 'Eagle View'. Through these, traffic officials can proactively identify traffic problems, alert local traffic authorities, and provide suggestions for appropriate solutions.

Hyderabad tops metro cities in traffic speed at 25 kmph; city police, google join hands for signal optimisation under ‘Operation Green Light'

HYDERABAD: The city's average traffic speed of 25 kmph is the highest among major metropolitan cities in India, Hyderabad commissioner of police CV Anand said on Friday. He was speaking at the 'Traffic Action Plan' meeting held at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre, Banjara Hills. "Despite the city adding nearly 1,600 new vehicles to the roads every day, we aim to improve the average speed to 27 kmph," Anand said. "Currently, about 91 lakh vehicles ply on Hyderabad roads daily, which shows a 45% surge since the Covid pandemic. The key to managing this growing volume lies in effective signal management," he added. At the event, Hyderabad city police also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Google to implement Operation Green Light, a collaborative initiative aimed at optimising traffic signals. "Every time someone uses Google Maps for navigation, data is generated about traffic flow and congestion," a senior police official explained. "With this MoU, we will use that real-time data to manage signal timings better. This will not only help reduce waiting time at signals but also cut down on greenhouse gas emissions," he said. Officials said the system will also help monitor sudden incidents or route deviations, allowing quicker alerts and responses by the traffic police. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Visste du at du enkelt kan forbedre levetiden? CV Anand calls upon school mgmts, parents to join hands in ensuring student safety

Hyderabad: In a proactive step towards strengthening the safety and well-being of school children in the city, Hyderabad City Police cautioned against overloading school vehicles and urged parents to also take accountability instead of leaving everything to the police. Police cautioned that school principals and management will be held responsible for safety lapses within 200 metres of school premises. This comes after five school bus drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol in the city on Wednesday. Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand on Thursday, during a meeting with school managements, parent committees, auto unions, and transport operators, pointed out that security issues typically arise when schools reopen and must be addressed proactively. He mentioned that eight students have died over the last three years due to negligence and emphasised that students must commute only in school buses and that school management must implement and maintain all safety measures. The meeting, held at Ravindra Bharathi, focused on improving the safety of students. Discussions included the need for traffic management around schools, safe transport systems, and enhancing road safety awareness among all stakeholders. Additionally, topics such as vehicle permits, seating capacity, display of school names and numbers, driver experience, and the presence of a female attendant in every school bus were addressed. CV Anand, who chaired the meeting, advised schools to install CCTV cameras around their premises. 'Drivers should be vigilant when students are boarding and alighting, as these are the most accident-prone moments. Even a single child's death can have a huge impact on a school,' he stated. He advised schools to ensure the presence of signboards in front of their premises and stated that areas like Abids, Secunderabad, and Jubilee Hills face more traffic issues due to school clusters. He assured efforts to form special coordination teams in such areas, involving transportation and traffic personnel. Dasari Hari Chandana, Hyderabad District Collector, highlighted the urgent need to create a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to prevent road accidents involving school children. She urged schools to strictly adhere to guidelines and uphold the Right to Education Act for children aged six to 14.
