New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): Raising questions on the Census 2027, Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Monday questioned Union Home Minister whether the Census data would follow the Telangana model or if the country was staring at another 'Jumla.'
'Dear Mr. Amit Shah, will the 2027 Caste Census follow the Telangana model, or is India staring at another Jumla? The first caste census since 1931 has been officially notified. But we have questions. Big ones. And the country deserves answers,' the post on social media X read.
Tagore also questioned the government, asking if it was following the Telangana model or avoiding it for political convenience.
He also raised questions if the Census 2027 would release full caste data, including the OBCs or would it be another round of data collection.
'Will your government release the full caste data this time, including OBC sub-categorisation? Or will it be another round of data collection without justice?' the post further read.
Tagore also raised questions on what was stopping the Government from having a precise and transparent Census.
Furthermore, Tagore questioned if the 2027 Census would become a tool of justice or would be another headline.
'Will the 2027 Census become a tool of justice, or just another headline? Mr. Shah, history is watching. India is waiting. And the OBCs will not settle for optics without outcomes,' he further wrote.
Earlier in the day, the Central government notified that the Population census, the process of which will begin in March 2027.
As per a gazette notification released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, 'In exercise of the powers conferred by Section three of the Census Act 1948 and in suppression of the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs dated March 26, 2018, the Central Government declared that a census of the population of India shall be taken during the year 2027, as per a circular released by the Ministry of Home Affairs.'
The notification said that the reference date for the census shall be March 1, 2027, except for the Union territory of Ladakh and the snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

After evacuation from Iran, Indians express relief; 827 brought back so far

The Indian government's Operation Sindhu has successfully evacuated 827 Indian nationals from conflict-hit Iran, with the latest flight landing in New Delhi on Saturday. As soon as the situation went south, we were evacuated by the embassy. I am very thankful to the Indian government." Farzana Abdi echoed similar sentiments, "We are coming back from Iran. There was a lot of fighting and missiles there. The Indian embassy helped us a lot and brought us here. We are very happy to be back in India. India is the best." Riyazul Hasan described the dire situation in Iran, "The situation is not good there. We saw from our hotel window that the missiles were coming, which were being intercepted mid-air. We are relieved to be back here. We came through the embassy. We thank PM Modi." Fatima expressed her gratitude to the Prime Minister, "I am very grateful to PM Modi. Now I feel at peace after coming back to my country. Being back in your homeland is a matter of great joy." Minister instructs officials to expedite land acquisition and railway projects in Hassan

Hassan: Union minister of state for railways and Jal Shakthi, V Somanna, instructed authorities to acquire 503 acres of land for the Belur-Hassan railway line and transfer it to the railways within a month. At a meeting at the deputy commissioner's office with officials from the railway, KPTCL, RITES, and the revenue department on Friday, Somanna emphasised that railway officials should take greater responsibility and float tenders to complete the project within two years. KPTCL officials were directed to complete work related to power lines and substations within the stipulated time. He also instructed that measures be taken to resolve the landslide issue on the railway route in the Sakleshpur area within four months. Officials were instructed to complete modernisation works at the Arasikere railway station at a cost of Rs 34 crore, Hassan railway station at Rs 22 crore, and Sakleshpur railway station at Rs 26 crore within the stipulated time. MP Shreyas Patel suggested providing an additional passenger train from Arasikere to Mysuru and a new railway line from Dudda to Tiptur for public convenience. India has made it clear that it will not reinstate the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, which was suspended following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The Indus Waters Treaty, brokered by the World Bank, allocated the three western rivers (Indus, Jhelum and Chenab) to Pakistan and the three eastern rivers (Ravi, Beas and Sutlej) to India. It also provided for cooperative arrangements on hydropower and irrigation between the two neighbours.
