AL JABAL AL AKHDHAR: The Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah is preparing to launch 'Al Jabal Al Akhdhar Festival,' scheduled to run from July 15 to 30 August.
A preparatory meeting, held in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar on Sunday, discussed the organisational and logistical plans for the festival. The meeting was attended by Shaikh Sultan bin Mansour al Ghufaili, Wali of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, along with representatives from government and private entities, civil society organisations and event operators.
The upcoming edition of the festival will feature a range of tourism, entertainment and cultural activities that highlight the unique natural and climatic features of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, reinforcing its status as a premier summer destination for visitors from within and outside the Sultanate of Oman.
The meeting also emphasised enhancing institutional coordination among stakeholders to ensure a well-organised festival that meets visitors' expectations. Discussions also covered improving the overall tourist experience, reviewing event site readiness, infrastructure plans, health monitoring, and visitor flow management, along with all supporting services.
A visual presentation was given summarising the outcomes of the 2024 Al Jabal Al Akhdhar Summer Festival, including visitor numbers, hotel occupancy rates and community engagement levels. This step aims to build on past successes and achieve greater economic and tourism impact this year.
Additionally, the meeting outlined various planned activities, including theatrical performances, entertainment programmes, sports events and cultural showcases.
A special presentation introduced the 'Gulf Knights Forum,' a new addition to this year's festival, targeting equestrian enthusiasts from GCC countries. The forum will feature heritage and competitive programmes, enriching the festival's regional appeal and fostering cultural exchange.
Al Jabal Al Akhdhar Festival 2025 aligns with Al Dakhiliyah Governorate's efforts to boost domestic tourism, stimulate economic activity and create temporary employment opportunities by supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and local producers, offering them participation and promotional opportunities.

Export insurance grows 6% as Oman boosts non-oil sales

MUSCAT: The total value of insured Omani non-oil exports rose to RO 61.2 million in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 6% increase compared to RO 57.75 million recorded during the same period last year, according to Credit Oman. Khalil bin Ahmed al Harthy, CEO of Credit Oman, highlighted notable growth across several sectors. Export sales in the building and construction materials sector increased by 24%, reaching RO 27.16 million. The petrochemicals and plastics sector also posted a strong 45% rise, amounting to RO 9.19 million, while the mining sector saw an impressive 150% surge to RO 570,000. Meanwhile, the agricultural sector recorded a 96% growth, totalling around RO 5 million. However, he noted that some sectors such as packaging, fisheries and garments experienced a downturn, reflecting varying dynamics across industries. 'These results underscore the positive trajectory of the national economy and ongoing government efforts to support economic diversification,' Al Harthy stated. He added that Credit Oman continues to support Omani manufacturers and exporters by offering comprehensive insurance services and helping overcome market access challenges, particularly in new and international markets. Data also shows that overall non-oil exports from Oman increased by 8.6% in the first quarter of 2025, rising to RO 1.618 billion compared to RO 1.490 billion during the same period in 2024. — ONA

From misty mountains to lush valleys: Dhofar's Khareef Season begins Saturday

Muscat: The Khareef (monsoon) 2025 season in Dhofar will officially begin tomorrow, Saturday, June 21, 2025 affecting the coastal wilayats of the governorate—from Dhalkut in the west to Mirbat in the east—due to the onset of seasonal winds and cloud formations flowing in from the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. The season will continue until September 21. The Khareef is renowned for its cloudy, drizzly weather and moderate temperatures, especially in the elevated mountainous areas, which are often blanketed in mist and light rain. This unique climate transforms Dhofar into a stunning green landscape, making it a top destination for both local and international tourists. Throughout the season, water flow in the governorate's natural springs increases, with many becoming popular attractions, including Razat, Hamran, Jarziz, Sahalnoot, and Tabraq springs. Seasonal waterfalls like Darbat, Athum, Khor, Gogob, and Al-Hoota also flourish, depending on rainfall levels. Dhofar's natural and historical landmarks—including its diverse coastal, agricultural, mountainous, and desert environments—draw significant attention. Its UNESCO-listed sites, such as Al-Baleed and Samharam archaeological parks, the Land of Frankincense Museum, and ancient forts in Rakhyut, Taqah, Mirbat, and Sadah, are popular attractions.
