Land acquisition by KIADB: KRRS threatens protest march to CM's Mysuru residence over delay in compensation payment
Alleging a scam in the payment of compensation for the acquisition of land in Nanjangud taluk's Chikkayyanachatra hobli by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) has threatened to lead a march to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's residence in Mysuru if the issue is not resolved in a week's time.
Addressing a press conference in Mysuru on Wednesday, KRRS leader Badagalapura Nagendra said the KIADB acquired about 1,123 acres of land across Immavu, Adakanahalli, and Tandavapura in Chikkayyanachatra hobli of Nanjangud taluk. A part of this acquired land has also been earmarked for the proposed film city to be set up by the State government.
About 700 families of farmers from the villages of Immavu, Hulimavu, Immavu Hundi, and Adakanahalli Hundi, who had also submitted applications for compensation under the Geni or tenancy rights, were excluded from payment of compensation, Mr Nagendra pointed out.
Following agitations by the aggrieved farmers, the KIADB, at its board meeting, decided to pay an ex gratia amount of ₹4 lakh per farmer with unauthorised cultivation on the acquired land and sanctioned a total of ₹18 crore that was disbursed through the Deputy Commissioner to Nanjangud Tahsildar.
Mr. Nagendra alleged that the compensation was distributed to ineligible farmers from different taluks of Chamarajanagar and Mysuru districts, leaving the eligible farmers high and dry.
Contending that 'corruption and irregularities' had taken place in the distribution of the compensation, Mr. Nagendra said the farmers are demanding a thorough investigation and punishment for the guilty, adding that genuine cultivators should be provided the compensation they deserved.
Despite an agitation by the farmers for the last two weeks during which the matter was brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner, the issue has not been resolved. Mr. Nagendra claimed that the applications filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking details of the compensation paid to the farmers, too, had been denied, raising further suspicion.
Hence, he said the farmers have set a deadline of one week for the government to resolve the matter. If not, a protest march will be taken out from the protest site in Nanjangud to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's residence in Mysuru, where a demonstration will be held, Mr. Nagendra warned.
Opposition to Cauvery Aarti and Amusement Park
Mr. Nagendra highlighted the opposition by the farmers to the government's plan to hold the Cauvery Arati and the construction of an Amusement Park at KRS reservoir. He urged the government to cancel its plan to hold Aarti at KRS reservoir by spending a whopping ₹92 crore.
Expressing opposition to the proposed Amusement Park at KRS, Mr. Nagendra said the farmers of Mandya had opposed the project as it posed a threat to the safety of the KRS dam. Similarly, 'anti-people and anti-environment' projects like 'Disneyland' too had to be scrapped following a public outcry, he reminded the government.
Fake seeds and Fertilisers
Mr. Nagendra expressed concern over the circulation of fake seeds and fertilisers in the market on account of the Agriculture Department's failure to supply the required amount of commodities to the farmers even after the start of monsoon. He urged the government to immediately curb the menace and ensure adequate and timely availability of seeds and fertilisers to the farmers.
The KRRS has also extended its support to the 'Devanahalli Chalo' call given by Samyukta Horata Karnataka on June 25 to protest against the forced acquisition of land by KIADB in Channarayapatna hobli in Devanahalli taluk in Bengaluru Rural district.

Mandya MFI official abducts 2 minors to recover EMI
Mandya: There have been several incidents in the recent past when a section of microfinance institutions (MFIs) operating in Karnataka have been found guilty of adopting unethical loan-recovery methods, prompting the state govt to introduce stringent legal measures to regulate such firms and ensure protection of consumer rights. However, despite the legal safeguards, the menace reared its ugly head yet again as this latest incident in Mandya district reveals, where an executive from a microfinance firm allegedly abducted two minors on Monday over a loan instalment that was reportedly overdue by only a few days. Police said the accused kidnapped two cousins, a minor girl, 7, and a boy, 13, from their home in Chilkunda village while their parents were away, apparently to show him the way to the girl's mother's workplace, where he confronted her over the unpaid EMI. Though the children were later dropped back home by the accused, the minor girl's father filed an FIR on Friday, accusing the finance company and its executive of kidnapping the two children and insulting his wife. The complaint attracts provisions of a new law governing microfinance institutions in the state under the Karnataka Micro Loan and Small Loan (Prevention of Coercive Actions) Act, 2025. Speaking in Bengaluru, home minister G Parameshwara assured that if there was any wrongdoing, strict action would be initiated against the offenders. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Speel gratis in je browser – Geen download of installatie nodig! Taonga Farm Nu afspelen Undo M Ravichandra, the chairman of the child welfare committee, Mysuru, said some social activists had produced the children and the executive before them on Thursday, accusing the official of kidnapping the minors. "When we asked the children, they said they were not abused, or threatened by the accused, who was warned and let off," Ravichandra added. Sources claimed the finance company official had taken the two children on his bike to the workplace of the girl's mother, who is employed in an incense stick rolling unit.

Institutional round applications for engg, mgmt via CET cell too
Mumbai: Aspirants seeking admission in the institutional round for engineering, management and pharmacy courses can now apply centrally through the state's CET cell too. Previously, candidates only had the option of approaching individual colleges directly and often faced the risk of being turned away on various pretexts. To bring in more transparency in admissions to institutional quota seats across technical courses, including diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate, the state govt has decided to step up precautionary measures. For instance, the govt has now removed the ambiguity in the definition of 'NRI', paving the way for only genuine candidates to secure seats under the quota. Additionally, the state's Fees Regulatory Authority (FRA) also fixed fees for institutional quota seats for the first time in technical colleges—private, unaided colleges can now charge up to five times the fees for merit seats from NRI students and three times from students taking admission in management seats. The govt issued a notification bringing in amendments in the Maharashtra Unaided Private Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admissions and Fees) Act, 2015 on Friday. One of the provisions in the notification stated, "In case a candidate is unable to submit the application directly to the concerned institute for any reason, the candidate shall have the opportunity to apply through the website of the CET cell till the date of allotment of final admission round. " These applications will be forwarded to the respective institutions after the allotment process of round four and will be considered for merit, it mentioned. Vinod Mohitkar, director, directorate of technical education, said the govt is not overstepping on the rights of management to conduct the institutional round. "We receive some complaints from students about certain institutions refusing applications for the institutional round. We are, therefore, only offering students an additional platform to apply. These applications will be compiled and sent to respective institutions and they will include these names, while preparing their merit list," said the director. Some of the admission rules were also modified in the notification, but were announced before. The state's cabinet, in a meeting this week, also announced aspirants seeking admission under the NRI quota for any courses will have to submit a certificate from respective consulate offices or documents mentioned in Guardians and Wards Act, 1890. A department official said even local students claimed admissions under NRI quota by submitting affidavits. Higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil had announced revision in admission process for more transparency.
