'Last Caveman on Earth' : This 62-year-old lives like it's the Stone Age

Time of India4 hours ago

Almost everything around us is connected, phones, homes, cars, even watches, and because of this, it's hard to even imagine a life without constant notifications, deadlines, or noise.
We wake up to alarms, check emails before brushing our teeth, and measure our days by productivity rather than peace. While technology and city life have brought comfort and convenience, they've also come with their own baggage of stress, anxiety, and a sense of never truly having enough time.
But what if someone chose to step away from all of it? Not for a vacation or a social media detox, but for life. While most of us wouldn't consider living without electricity or running water, there are still rare individuals who take up simplicity, silence, and survival in the most raw form.
People who find richness in the rhythm of nature instead of the rush of the modern world.
One such person is Aliah, a 62-year-old man living in a cave on the remote island of Socotra, Yemen. His story has gone viral because he represents something deeply human, which is choosing freedom from the chaos.
This man lives on the rugged coastline of Socotra, Yemen, and has become an internet sensation after travel vlogger Colin shared a video of him on Instagram.

In the video, Aliah is seen fishing by hand, walking barefoot over sharp rocks, lighting fires, and sleeping in a cave, just like humans did thousands of years ago. Despite the harsh conditions, he appears content and physically strong.
'His days are measured by the tides and not time. No phone. No electricity. Just the rhythm of wind and water. And still, he smiles like he knows something the rest of us forgot,' Colin adds.
The viral video has gained over a million views and sparked a wave of admiration. People online are in awe of Aliah's resilience and peace. One user commented, 'He's richer than most millionaires.' Another said, 'No phones, just pure passion and living in the moment.'
Many admired his health and fitness at 62. 'Ok, he should share his dental hygiene routine. Those teeth look way better than I'd expect TBH,' someone joked. Others pointed out the emotional and mental peace such a life may offer. 'No tax, no bills, no anxiety, no overthinking, I bet he's a really happy dude.'
Another comment read, 'He's not crazy. He hasn't been affected by Western ideologies,' suggesting that Aliah's peace may come from staying disconnected from modern pressures.
Aliah also spoke about his family in the video, revealing that he's lost some of his children over the years. Yet, despite the loss and solitude, he continues to live peacefully in his cave, grateful for what the sea and land provide.

Temple tourism to get sanctity SOPs

Panaji: Amidst concerns about traffic congestion, the sanctity of sacred places and cleanliness, the tourism department has started to prepare norms and guidelines for tourists who will visit the 11 temples that have been identified as part of the temple circuit or Ekadasha Teertha Yatra. The department recently held a meeting with representatives of the 11 temple committees associated with the circuit. The representatives said the spiritual sanctity of each temple should be maintained while hosting tourists. 'The representatives emphasised the importance of formulating standard operating procedures (SOPs) for tourists. They also recommended that tourist itineraries be planned carefully during temple festivals,' said tourism director Kedar Naik. Parking and traffic management emerged as key concern for the temple committees, particularly when buses and large vehicles carrying tourists arrive at temple sites. The representatives told the department to consider temple-specific solutions to ensure smooth visitor movement and avoid congestion. The Ekadasha Teertha Yatra covers 11 temples: Manguesh temple in Mangeshi, Mahalasa Narayani temple in Mardol, Mahadev temple in Tambdi Surla, Saptakoteshwar temple in Narve, Brahma temple in Sattari, Shantadurga Temple in Fatorpa, Hari Mandir in Margao, Damodar temple in Zambaulim, Parashuram temple in Poinguinim, Mahaganapati temple in Khandola, and Dattatreya temple in Sanquelim. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dream Kitchen Within Reach? Colva beach mess belies Rs 11cr revamp

Colva: Under the Swadesh Darshan scheme, Colva beach was to be beautified for Rs 11.7 crore, but a visit to the beach today reveals shattered infrastructure despite the promise of the creation of an 'iconic beach'. The money was sanctioned for Colva beach in July 2018. The project was launched by the tourism minister at the time, Manohar Ajgaonkar, and included comprehensive beautification, roadworks, and landscaping. Other project features were gazebos, toilet and changing blocks, parking for over 450 vehicles, a children's play area, and a network of 15 high-end CCTV cameras and ornamental street lighting. In 2019, seven gazebos made of steel and fibre-reinforced plastic were installed, and officials of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) asserted that these structures were built to endure the coastal weather conditions. However, within a year, the structures began deteriorating. By the monsoon of 2020, most gazebos had collapsed. Today, only two skeletal remains stand. The situation deteriorated in 2022, when the ornamental lighting poles were ripped off by strong winds, plunging the beach into darkness for months. In May 2025, unseasonal rains brought down the remaining poles. GTDC officials have only vague responses to questions on whether any structural audit was ever conducted. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo The CCTV network is now entirely non-functional. The air-conditioned monitoring booth lies defunct. Despite the project's cost and its high-profile launch, no public record of a financial or technical audit has surfaced. Locals, including panchayat members, have repeatedly raised concerns over the drain of taxpayer money and the lack of upkeep. As the state prepares for Swadesh Darshan 2.0, who will answer for the Rs 11.7 crore already lost, said one panchayat member.
