AIngineer, Microsoft join forces to drive industrial AI
KUALA LUMPUR: AIngineer Sdn Bhd, a pioneering industrial AI venture incubated in PING23 Sdn Bhd or Petronas Innovation Garage (PING) has entered into a strategic collaboration with Microsoft, accelerating deployment of cutting-edge AI solutions across energy and heavy industries.
Bringing together AIngineer's domain expertise in industrial AI with Microsoft's technological strengths, this collaboration will drive industrial AI innovation and commercialisation. This joint effort is poised to enhance operational efficiencies in the energy sector and contribute to the growth of Malaysia's digital economy.
A MoU was recently signed between Microsoft Malaysia managing director Laurence Si and AIngineer CEO Lee Kian Seng, witnessed by Microsoft Malaysia general manager (Energy & Utilities) Datin Sharifah Shereeta Syed Sheh and AIngineer chief technology officer Crystal Lwi Xiau Jing, on the sidelines of the Microsoft AI Tour Kuala Lumpur.
'This collaboration with Microsoft is a pivotal milestone for AIngineer as we scale our solutions to meet the growing demands of a US$3.54 billion (RM15 billion) market for generative AI in the energy industry. By leveraging Microsoft's advanced cloud infrastructure, we are not only scaling with speed and security, but also enabling engineers to make smarter, data-driven decisions. Together, we are reshaping the future of engineering and building a foundation for more sustainable, resilient industrial operations,' said Lee.
AIngineer is a unique AI co-pilot built by engineers for engineers, embedded directly into everyday workflow. Using state-of-the-art Large Language Models (LLMs) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, it augments engineers with deep technical knowledge and insights to enhance decision-making.
Designed for complex industrial environments, AIngineer is a specialised industrial AI that integrates with technical databases and standards, enabling engineers to improve reliability, reduce diagnostic time, lower maintenance costs and preserve institutional knowledge. In recognition of its value, Petronas has entered into collaboration with AIngineer on various technical use cases to drive operational excellence.

Japan rice price falls below US$27 per 5kg for the first time since March
TOKYO (Bernama-Kyodo): The average price of rice in Japan fell below 4,000 yen (US$27) per five kilograms (kg) for the first time in around three and a half months to 3,920 yen, the government said on Monday, with increased distribution of stockpiles likely helping to drive down prices. According to Kyodo News Agency, during the seven days through June 15, the average price of rice sold at supermarkets across the nation fell by 256 yen per five kg from the previous week, dropping to the 3,000 yen range for the first time since the week ended March 2, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Farm Minister Shinjiro Koizumi told reporters that the drop was due in part to the release of additional rice reserves, stating that "a clear message from the government is proving effective." The market share of blended rice, including reserve rice, rose six percentage points to 50 per cent. Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has vowed to bring the average retail price of five kg of rice down to the 3,000 yen range by the end of June. Last year, a household consumed 60.20 kg of rice, according to government consumer spending data. Even after the latest fall, the average price of rice remains nearly double that of a year earlier. Japan's core consumer prices in May rose 3.7 per cent from a year earlier, marking the biggest increase in more than two years, with rice prices setting a fresh record for the eighth consecutive month with a 101.7 per cent jump due to a supply shortage. On Monday, meanwhile, measures were put into place prohibiting the reselling of rice bought at retail stores to ensure that consumers have access to rice at stable prices. Premier urges China's Jiangsu to embrace ‘higher development expectations'
As Beijing looks to shore up China's economic growth amid mounting challenges, Premier Li Qiang has called on Jiangsu province, a key manufacturing hub on the country's east coast, to step up its efforts in technology, trade and consumption. During a three-day visit to the province from Monday, Li emphasised the importance of embracing innovative development, stimulating effective demand, fostering entrepreneurship, and deepening reform and opening up to support China's sustained economic growth. 'Jiangsu has a solid economic foundation and strong capabilities, but it also faces higher development expectations,' Li said, calling on the province's officials and residents to stay focused on economic growth and shoulder greater responsibility in meeting the challenges facing the broader economy, Xinhua reported on Wednesday. In the first quarter of this year, Jiangsu's gross domestic product rose 5.9 per cent year on year to 3.31 trillion yuan (US$460.5 billion), closely trailing top-ranked Guangdong's 3.35 trillion yuan, which was up 4.1 per cent. One of China's most advanced manufacturing provinces, Jiangsu has been tasked by Beijing with playing a leading role in stabilising growth amid sluggish domestic demand and growing external pressure from increased US tariffs. At a factory that makes machinery, Li highlighted the need to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence and clean energy technologies to upgrade traditional industries and keep pace with global manufacturing trends. In an interview with Fortune magazine, the 28-year-old said she does not see her job as work in the traditional sense. "I love doing my job," she said. "I would say that if you feel the need for work-life balance, maybe you're not in the right work." Her daily routine starts at 5:30 a.m. with two to three high-intensity workouts at a training bootcamp, followed by work from 9 a.m. until midnight. "Some days, I am doing more marketing pushes. I'm talking to our PR, I'm doing podcasts, etc," she told Fortune. "Other days I am more product-focused... Reviewing designs, giving user experience feedback." She eats lunch at her desk and never cooks, relying entirely on food delivery service UberEats, she said. Despite working up to 90 hours a week, Guo said she still finds one to two hours each day for family and friends. "You should always find time for that, regardless of how busy you are." While younger generations increasingly prioritize work-life balance, Guo's schedule reflects a growing norm among startup founders. Zoom CEO Eric Yuan shares a similar view.
