Death toll in Gaza rises to 54,927 martyrs since beginning of war

CAIRO – 9 June 2025: The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the death toll from the Israeli aggression has risen to 54,927 martyrs and 126,615 wounded since October 2023.
The Ministry of Health also stated that 47 people were killed and 388 wounded as a result of Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip within the past 24 hours.
On Friday, 42 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes on several areas in the Gaza Strip according to Palestinian media reports.
An Israeli fighter jet struck a five-story residential building in Jabalia, northern Gaza, resulting in the deaths of three Palestinians and injuries to dozens more.
According to medical sources, three Palestinians were also killed and others wounded after an Israeli combat drone targeted a charging point for cell phones between tents sheltering displaced people to the west of Khan Younis, WAFA reported. A child was also shot dead by Israeli troops near the Al-Saraya detention area in Khan Younis. Another civilian succumbed to injuries sustained in a previous Israeli strike on the city. Israeli strikes have also killed one Palestinian in the town of Abasan al-Kabira, east of Khan Yunis. In addition, eight Palestinians were killed and 61 injured in renewed massacres in Rafah City in the southern Gaza Strip on Friday. The victims were targeted while trying to reach recently established humanitarian aid sites in western Rafah on the first day of Eid Al Adha.

Israeli army says bodies of three captives recovered in Gaza - War on Gaza

The Israeli military said Sunday that it had recovered the bodies of three captives in Gaza more than 20 months after they were abducted by Hamas militants. "In a special operation... the bodies of the captives Ofra Keidar, Yonatan Samerano, and Staff Sergeant Shay Levinson were recovered from the Gaza Strip yesterday," the military said in a statement. Samerano's father had announced earlier Sunday that his son's body, which was taken into Gaza after he was killed in a kibbutz in the territory on October 7, 2023, had been recovered by the Israeli army. He paid tribute to "the brave soldiers of the Israeli military and the Shin Bet" security service in a message posted on Instagram. The Israeli campaign group the Hostages and Missing Families Forum described Samerano as "a talented DJ who just wanted to make music, have fun, and travel". Keidar, a 71-year-old mother of three, was a resident of Kibbutz Beeri, where over 100 people were killed. Levinson, a 19-year-old tank commander, "engaged and fought terrorists on the morning of October 7 and fell in combat," a statement from the military said. Following the news, the forum repeated their frequent calls for the release of the remaining captives in Gaza, writing on social media: "The hostages have no time. We must bring them ALL home, Now!". Of the 251 hostages seized during Hamas' October 7 ofensive, 49 are still held in Gaza, including 27, the Israeli military says, are dead. Released captives have reported that they were beaten and tortured by Hamas militants while held in isolation in tunnels snaking underneath Gaza. Keith Siegel, a 66-year-old Israeli-American, told of experiencing and seeing various forms of abuse while in captivity during a recent interview with AFP. One of the locations where Siegel was held was so far underground that he was "gasping for breath", he recalled. Since 7 October 2023, Israel's genocidal war in Gaza has killed at least 55,908 people, most of them women and children, according to the Palestinian health ministry in the territory. The UN considers these figures reliable. On Sunday, Israel's President Isaac Herzog called for the "urgent release" of the remaining captives after the United States carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. "This brave step serves the security and safety of the entire free world. I hope it will lead to a better future for the Middle East - and help advance the urgent release of our hostages held in captivity in Gaza," Herzog wrote on X. * This story was edited by Ahram Online. Iran launches 35 missiles on Israel, causing widespread damage and injuries

In response to the US assault, Iran launched an intense assault of over 35 missiles targeting Israel early on Sunday morning. This resulted in the destruction of numerous buildings and extensive property damage. Rescue teams rushed to the affected sites to evacuate the injured, including settlers trapped under rubble. As the attack commenced, eyewitnesses from Tel Aviv reported a terrifying scene of widespread destruction. 'Everything is dismantled, the area is experiencing vast devastation,' one said. Extensive damage and casualties in latest attack Missiles struck areas in the settlement of Ness Ziona and Tel Aviv, while Israeli air defenses intercepted projectiles over Haifa. According to Yedioth Ahronoth, 23 injured individuals were transported to hospitals, with one in moderate condition and the rest suffering minor injuries. Videos and photos captured across Israel's interior documented the scale of the damage, showing demolished buildings and cars marred by shrapnel and soot. Israel strikes Hezbollah in south Lebanon Hours after the Iranian attack, the Israeli Air Force launched raids on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon. Additionally, the Israeli army successfully intercepted two drones in Wadi Araba, which had been launched from Iran towards Israeli settlements. Following these incidents, Israel's forces raised its alert level on the northern border, anticipating any further escalation from Hezbollah in coordination with Iran. US backs ally with strikes American sources have confirmed that the US military conducted precision strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, resulting in significant damage to parts of the infrastructure. US President Donald Trump announced the attack via his 'Truth Social' account, stating: 'We carried out a highly successful attack on Iranian nuclear sites; all aircraft have returned safely to their bases.' American media outlets confirmed that strikes directed at Iran utilized bunker-buster bombs to target the Fordow site, leading to the complete destruction of the facility. Iran has denied this, however, and stated that any damage did not extend beyond the ground surface.
