Yoga brings balance, helps deal with stress: Delhi Haj Committee chief
New Delhi [India],June 21 (ANI): Delhi Haj Committee Chairperson Kausar Jahan on Saturday joined 11th International Yoga Day celebrations in the national capital and said the anincient Indian practice helps in mental and physical well-being.
She lauded efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in popularising yoga all over the world.
'Due to Prime Minister Modi's efforts, the United Nations declared June 21 as International Yoga Day. Yoga brings balance and helps remove stress. It provides wholistic view for health,' Kausar Jahan told ANI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the main national event on the 11th International Yoga Day from Visakhapatnam.
He extended warm greetings to people across India and the world on International Yoga Day, highlighting that this year marks the 11th occasion when the world has come together on June 21 to practice yoga collectively.
He remarked that the essence of yoga is 'to unite', and it is heartening to see how yoga has united the world.
Reflecting on the journey of Yoga over the past decade, PM Modi recalled the moment when India proposed the idea of International Yoga Day at the United Nations. He noted that 175 countries supported the proposal, a rare instance of such wide global unity. He emphasised that the support was not merely for a proposal but represented a collective effort by the world for the greater good of humanity. 'Eleven years on, yoga has become an integral part of the lifestyle of millions across the globe', he added.
Meanwhile, 2121 participants held the cobra pose for two minutes and nine seconds while performing yoga in Gujarat's Vadnagar on Saturday and created a Guinness World Record.
According to Richard Stunning, official adjudicator at Guinness World Records, a recordfor the most people performing the cobra pose in yoga began on Saturday.
'The Guinness World Records title that starts today is the most people performing the cobra pose in yoga, simultaneously. We set a guideline that everyone had to do it for at least a minute each, and we set a minimum target of 250 participants. Today, they did it for more than a minute, they did it for two minutes and nine seconds, and the total was 2185. We had to discount 64 participants. So the confirmed title is 2121 participants. Given we set a minimum of 250, this is smashing the Guinness World Record. Congratulations to everyone involved, and it's a fantastic achievement', Richard Stunning told ANI. (ANI)

A woman does not need her husband's consent and signature to apply for a passport and insisting on the same is an instance of 'male supremacism', the Madras high court has said disposing of a petition filed by a woman who sought directions to authorities to issue her a fresh passport. (ANI Photo) (ANI) Saying that the insistence by the Regional Passport Office (RPO) that the woman get her estranged husband's permission for issuance of a passport was 'shocking', the bench of justice N Anand Venkatesh said it shows the 'mindset of the society in treating woman who are married as if they are chattel belonging to the husband'. The woman, Revathy, moved the court saying that she applied for a passport in April, but her application was not processed and the petitioner was informed that she must obtain the signature of her husband in Form-J and only thereafter, the application will be processed by the Chennai RPO. The petitioner got married in 2023 and there was a matrimonial dispute between the parties which resulted in her husband filing a petition before a local court, seeking for the dissolution of the marriage. This petition was pending. The RPO also took the pending dispute into consideration, following which she filed the present petition. In his order, the judge said that in the considered view of this court, the application submitted by the petitioner seeking a passport has to be processed independently. 'It is not necessary for a wife to get the permission of her husband and take his signature before applying for a passport before the authority,' the judge said in the June 18 order. 'This insistence made by the 2nd respondent (the RPO) shows the mindset of the society in treating woman who are married as if they are chattel belonging to the husband. It is quite shocking that the passport office is insisting for the permission of the husband and his signature in a particular form in order to process the application submitted by the petitioner for passport,' the court said. The judge said the petitioner after marriage does not lose her individuality and a wife can always apply for a passport without the permission or signature of the husband in any form. 'It is quite shocking that the passport office is insisting for the permission of the husband and his signature in a particular form in order to process the application submitted by the petitioner for passport,' the court said. It noted that it was not possible for the petitioner woman to obtain her husband's signature on the application in view of the strained relationship between them, the judge said, the RPO was insisting the woman 'fulfill an impossibility'. 'The practice of insisting for permission from the husband to apply for passport, does not augur well for a society which is moving towards emancipation. This practice is nothing short of male supremacism,' the court said. The judge directed the RPO to process the application submitted by the petitioner and issue a passport in her name on her satisfying the other requirements. This process shall be completed within four weeks, the judge added.

Gujarat: Chimpanzee exhibit to open at SoU jungle safari to mark World Rainforest Day
The Statue of Unity Jungle Safari and Zoological Park in Ekta Nagar (formerly Kevadia) in Narmada district is all set to open the chimpanzee exhibit to the public on Sunday — to mark the World Rainforest Day on June 22, said officials familiar with the matter. The exhibit will house a male and two female chimpanzees, who had been in quarantine, following their arrival in India from Capital Zoo Wildlife Park in Abu Dhabi (UAE) in February this year. Officials said that a special enclosure for chimpanzees has been created in the Ekta Nagar to replicate their natural tropical habitat of the African forests. According to officials, the three chimpanzees had been quarantined and kept away from immediate public display to help them acclimate to the Indian climate but surroundings were created to allow them to 'experience a sense of their own habitat'. Officials added that the three chimpanzees had 'adapted very well and were at ease' in their new home, based on which the Statue of Unity authorities decided to bring them out for the public display area in the special enclosure created for chimpanzees.

Counselling sessions, road safety pledge for Crut crew
1 2 Bhubaneswar: In a bid to bolster road safety, Capital Region Urban Transport (Crut), which operates the Ama Bus services, has ramped up its 'Zero Accident Day' plans. The initiative focuses on daily counselling sessions and the administration of road safety pledge across all its depots and operational terminals. The efforts aim to sensitise crew members on safe driving practices, reinforce their responsibilities and foster a culture of accountability and care on the roads. Housing and urban development department's principal secretary Usha Padhee visited Crut's Naraj depot on Saturday, where she interacted with the crew members and administered the road safety pledge, urging them to uphold the highest standards of service. "Safety begins with us. As frontline service providers, Crut crew members carry the trust of thousands of citizens every day. Let us pledge to ensure that every journey is not just timely, but safe and dependable," she said. The sensitisation and awareness session holds significance, especially following the introduction of 100 new e-buses to its existing fleet, flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. With the additions, Crut has decided to operate the buses on eight new routes. Padhee also emphasised the message of 'Come Home Safe', highlighting the importance of not only passenger safety but also the well-being of crew members and their families. She encouraged the staff to deliver services that inspire confidence and trust among commuters. The 'Zero Accident Day' campaign aims to significantly reduce road accidents, improve driving discipline, and enhance the overall commuting experience in the capital region. "Crut remains committed to providing safe, reliable, and inclusive public transport while ensuring the safety of its workforce and the public it serves," a statement from Crut read.
