Brad Marchand's Instagram stories turn Panthers' Stanley Cup party into NHL shoutout fest
Brad Marchand's Instagram thank-you post steals Cup celebration spotlight (Image via: Getty Images) Brad Marchand turned the Panthers' Cup celebration into the NHL 's hottest conversation. As the Florida Panthers soaked in their Stanley Cup victory with a night out in Miami, Marchand quietly lit up Instagram not with party scenes, but with a string of thank-yous to NHL teams that let his teammates go. Subtle yet bold, perfectly timed and personal, his message landed without needing a mic drop. Here's how Brad Marchand thanked NHL team with one story at a time After clinching their second straight Stanley Cup with a commanding 5–1 win over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6, the Florida Panthers wasted no time jumping into celebration mode. But while the team hit the Miami nightlife in full force, Brad Marchand chose a different way to mark the moment, one that instantly grabbed attention across the NHL. During a team dinner at Maple & Ash in Downtown Miami, Marchand opened up Instagram and started posting stories that weren't about champagne or confetti. Instead, he shared snapshots of his Panthers teammates, each paired with a simple yet pointed message: a thank-you to the NHL teams that let those players go. He started with the New Jersey Devils — and for good reason. Five former Devils, including Dmitry Kulikov, Jesper Boqvist, Tomas Nosek, A.J. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villa For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search ads Learn More Undo Greer, and goaltender Vitek Vanecek, had just lifted the Cup as Panthers. For some, like Kulikov, it was back-to-back titles. For others, it was their first. Marchand made sure none of it went unnoticed. But the thank-yous didn't stop with New Jersey. He kept going — tagging teams that once rostered now-celebrated Panthers players. Even Florida's GM Bill Zito and head coach Paul Maurice got a grateful nod in his story spree. The Panthers' success wasn't just built, it was handed over, piece by piece, by teams that failed to hold on. In a fitting twist, Panthers stars Aleksander Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk, and Evan Rodrigues joined in the fun by posting their own message: a thank-you to the Boston Bruins — Marchand's longtime team — for letting him go. As the Stanley Cup parade looms this Sunday on Fort Lauderdale Beach, Marchand's Instagram moment has become part of the broader Panthers story, a team shaped by second chances, underestimated talent, and the unlikeliest of combinations. Inspirational runner wins Glasgow Men's 10K one year after stay in psychiatric ward
Just one year after being discharged from a psychiatric ward, 20-year-old fitness fanatic Harvey Mitchell-Divers has turned his life around to take gold in the city centre race. The inspirational winner of the Glasgow Men's Health 10K says the pursuit of greatness is the only high he needs after overcoming drug-induced psychosis. Just one year after being discharged from a psychiatric ward, 20-year-old fitness fanatic Harvey Mitchell-Divers has turned his life around to take gold in the city centre race - clocking up a personal best. The sport and exercise science student sprinted past 2448 athletes and runners to smash through the finish line in just 33 minutes and 27 seconds. Before falling ill, Harvey was named Scotland's youngest Iron Man after completing the gruelling challenge at 18, picked up a Guinness World Record after winning the world's highest endurance race in Abu Dhabi at just 16 and is a British World Age Group Champion. Commenting on his monumental win on Sunday, he told Lanarkshire Live: 'I'm still on a high from the weekend. It was a very good result, I'm over the moon. 'I was going for a personal best and I knew there was a serious stack of good athletes and runners so I wasn't expecting to get first place, it was a big surprise.' The remarkable feat was made all the more special being on Father's Day with his dad Jason - his biggest supporter - cheering him on. Emotions were high as Harvey reflected on his incredible comeback following the darkest time in his life. He said: 'I had nearly a whole year off of racing. After Iron Man in July 2023 I began to replace one high of exercise with another high of taking a lot of drugs. 'I was going to lots of raves and taking ecstasy and eventually I became really unwell. 'The amount I was training coupled with the amount of drugs I was taking didn't really balance very well and I ended up with drug-induced psychosis.' The East Kilbride chef was admitted to hospital in November of that year for 10 days diagnosed with acute stress syndrome. But over Christmas Harvey continued to struggle with his mental health, becoming more and more introverted and feeling down and depressed with high anxiety. 'It's not like me at all to be introverted', he added. 'I could hardly even get out my car to go into a shop. I also had really bad voices in my head - I was in a really dark place for a good while. 'There was a series of events then I was admitted to hospital just before my 19th birthday.' Harvey was transferred to Ward 20 - the psychiatric unit at Hairmyres Hospital - in February 2024 and spent three months there trying to make sense of what was going on in his mind. 'My behaviour was out of the ordinary, I was just really struggling and wasn't myself - I was a completely different version of myself', he continued. 'Drug-induced psychosis is a really really horrible thing where you feel like you're losing your mind. I was under supervision all day because I kept trying to run away because I was adamant there was nothing wrong with me. 'I put on a substantial amount of weight - around 16kg (two-and-a-half stone) - from not training but I was put on medication which really helped and I started to come round.' It took two months before Harvey realised himself how ill he was and accepted the fact he was in the right place to get help. Praising the medics who cared for him, Harvey said he can't thank the staff enough for helping him to get better. He said: 'I had to almost rebuild my life from scratch. When I came out I didn't have a job, I was overweight, I had lost all my fitness and wasn't anywhere near the person that I used to be. It was a total identity change. 'It was so difficult to build my fitness back up. I remember going for a run with my mate and having to stop multiple times, I was gassed. 'But slowly over time I rebuilt myself. I turned up every day and put in the graft and managed to lose all the weight and start competing again.' Now back to full fitness, the Glasgow Men's Health 10k was the obstacle course runner's first win in over 18 months and his first ever first place in a running race. He said: 'I've done a few events since being back but that was my first breakthrough win which felt really nice. I was leading from the front from about 1km in and then I had a good lead while passing George Square and about 30 seconds on the second place. I knew I had to hold it coming into Glasgow Green. 'It was also the first race my girlfriend, Elizabeth Boyle, had ever been to so it was nice to get the win. 'And of course it was Father's Day so that was really special with my dad there. He works off-shore so can't get to a lot of races but he's my number one fan so it was so good to celebrate with him, he just loved it.' Touching on his love for competing and chasing his dreams, Harvey shared his ambition to go into coaching following graduation and help others achieve their fitness goals. He added: 'I just love the constant pursuit of being better than what I was yesterday. I love constantly striving to be better and trying to improve myself - it gives me such mental clarity. "After everything I've been through running just takes my mind off things and given me a sense of purpose and direction. I just love the constant push to be better. 'Drugs really aren't worth it. Running is a much better high than anything you can ever take. 'You can't quite beat putting hours worth of graft into something, chasing your dreams, doing the things you love doing and getting the most out of life. 'Hopefully I can inspire a few people along the way to do the same, that's what it's all about for me. Life's been mad recently and I'm just getting warmed up.' On June 28 Harvey will compete in the World's Toughest Mudder World Championships - a gruelling 24hr event. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Supporters of Myanmar's jailed leader strive to set world record to honor her 80th birthday
BANGKOK — Thousands of supporters of Myanmar 's jailed former leader Aung San Suu Kyi celebrated her 80th birthday Thursday by attempting to set a world record for the most birthday greeting videos, while others took to the streets in demonstrations against the military government that ousted her. Kalo Say Htoo, an organizer of the birthday video campaign, said the original goal was to collect 80,000 greeting videos to honor Suu Kyi and achieve a recognized Guinness World Record. The number of videos collected surpassed 103,000 on Thursday, tripling the current record of 32,207 achieved in 2017, organizers said. Suu Kyi was arrested in February 2021 when the military seized power from her democratically elected government. She was convicted on more than a dozen charges for offenses that her supporters say were concocted to keep her out of politics. She remains regarded by many in Myanmar as the country's legitimate leader while serving a 27-year prison term. Kim Aris, Suu Kyi's son living in London, said in a statement on Facebook Thursday that the campaign is a powerful testament to his mother's global support. 'It's my hope this achievement brings urgent attention to her plight and that of the people of Burma,' said Aris, using the country's former name. 'Her voice may be silenced, but her flame will never be extinguished.' Aris planned to run 80 kilometers (49.7 miles) to honor his mother's birthday, while encouraging others to show support with the numerical theme, such as walking for 80 minutes or making 80 recipes. More than 6,800 civilians are estimated to have been killed by security forces during a widespread armed struggle against military rule that began after generals seized power from Suu Kyi's elected government, according to figures compiled by nongovernmental organizations. Pro-democracy street protests in Suu Kyi's honor were held Thursday in areas that are not under military control including northern Kachin state, the central regions of Mandalay, Sagaing and Magway and in Tanintharyi in the south. Photos on social media showed demonstrators carrying flowers, birthday cakes and posters of Suu Kyi, as well as banners reading 'Happy Birthday' and urging supporters to strive for 'the liberation of the entire nation, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.' The military government's supporters posted calls for the arrest of protesters. Several Western embassies posted pictures and illustrations on social media of red roses, with some issuing statements calling for Suu Kyi and all other political prisoners to be released. The Suu Foundation, a nonprofit humanitarian organization, and the law firm Zimeray & Finelle said in a joint statement Thursday that Suu Kyi was thought to have suffered an injury to her left arm during the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit the country in March.
