"Batting needs to take more responsibility": NECO Master Blaster' skipper Jitesh Sharma after loss in Vidarbha Pro T20 League
Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], June 7 (ANI): Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and India wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma, who is captaining NECO Master Blaster, in the ongoing Vidarbha Pro T20 League, feels that the batting unit needs to step up their game following the loss in the first match.
Bharat Rangers clinched a tense 23-run win over NECO Master Blaster in the Vidarbha Pro T20 League match on Friday. Leading the side, Jitesh Sharma too was not able to make a mark, but the batter is confident of doing well in the coming games.
'This is a learning phase for us in the Vidarbha League. It is our first year, and naturally, there will be mistakes--but what is important is that we learn and improve. The IPL is a different league altogether and cannot be compared directly, but we can definitely raise our standards and skill levels here,' said Jitesh after the match, as per a press release from NECO Master Blaster.
'Yes, there were mistakes today, especially with the bat, but we want to focus on the positives. We bowled really well, but the batting unit needs to take more responsibility. As a player and captain, I just want to see the youngsters enjoying the game and growing through the experience,' he added.
NECO Master Blaster will lock horns with Nagpur Titans on Saturday before meeting Nagpur Heroz on Sunday. 'Our plan for the next match is simple--focus on playing better cricket and aim for a win,' said Jitesh Sharma.
Chasing a modest 132, NECO Master Blaster faltered to 108/10. Tight spells from N Bhute (3/32) and M Dosi (2/23) dismantled the middle-order. NECO NECO Master Blaster innings never gained momentum after early wickets, with only Gaurav Dhoble (16) and Akash Kombe (10) showing some resistance. Skipper Jitesh scored just nine runs.
Men's squad:
Jitesh Sharma (Captain, Wicketkeeper), R Sanjay (Vice Captain), Aryam Meshram, Adyan Daga, Adyan Routham, Akash Kombe, Vedant Dighade (Wicketkeeper), Gaurav Dhobley, Ankush Tammiwar, Aditya Khilote, Arya Durugkar, Pratham Maheshwari, Prafulla Hinge, Ananmay Jaiswal, Sarthak Dhabadgaokar, Sanmesh Deshmukh. Yashasvi Jaiswal outlines KL Rahul's impact after opening day hundred at Headingley against England
Leeds [UK], June 21 (ANI): India's magician with the bat, Yashasvi Jaiswal, gave away the secrets that helped him flourish in his debut Test in the demanding conditions of England on the opening day of the series opener of the five-match series at Headingley. With determination in his eyes and a sublime touch in his robust technique, Jaiswal dazzled with his rollicking 101(158) against England's fast bowling attack, bereft of its pace wizards James Anderson and Stuart Broad. He continued his scorching form and boasts a unique feat to his name. Jaiswal has hammered Test centuries in his debut fixture in three different countries: the West Indies, Australia, and now England. The 23-year-old's dominance on English soil stems from his ability to grasp areas to target while conversing with his experienced KL Rahul. 'KL Rahul is very experienced. I can understand a lot by talking to him -- where the runs can be made and how we can carry on the innings. It was a lot of fun to play with him. He also came with India A. We did a lot of preparation and batting together, so we got a lot of ideas to understand each other,' Jaiswal said while speaking to Star Sports. Before stepping on Headingley's dry surface, Jaiswal refined his technique during the two unofficial Tests against England Lions, training camp in Beckenham and the intra-squad match held days before the first Test. 'We did a lot of preparation before coming here. It was a lot of fun to play, and it felt very good to bat. It was very good -- I enjoyed it a lot and learned a lot,' Jaiswal added. The young swashbuckler outlined his approach and the way he applies himself on the field. He offers himself more time on the field while preparing himself mentally to extend his stay on the crease for as long as possible. 'I try to give myself more time to play my shots. I try to be mentally ready and aim to bat as long as possible. I try to create a good platform for the team. If I am set, I try to take it deep and play till the end. I keep telling myself to keep playing. Whatever happens, I will manage and always keep this mindset,' he said. Jaiswal was undone by England captain Ben Stokes' golden touch. Jaiswal went to drive the ball, but the ball seamed off the pitch to beat the outside edge and rattle the timber. Captain Shubman Gill and his deputy Rishabh Pant forged an unbeaten 138-run partnership to see off the day, ensuring India remained unscathed, at a venue where India hasn't tasted victory since 2002. Australias Konstas reflects on early challenges, highlights importance of personal diary ahead of WI Test
Bridgetown [Barbados], June 21 (ANI): For Australia's young swashbuckler Sam Konstas, the biggest challenge wasn't the batting aspect in his early taste of Test cricket but keeping his emotion in check while playing in front of a jam-packed crowd at the MCG against India. Kronstadt caught the eye of the world with his rollicking 60(65) in the Boxing Day Test but failed to conjure another impactful performance in Sydney. He was included in Australia's tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year but couldn't make the cut for the final XI. At just 19, Konstas is looking to find the calm in the chaos of international cricket, keeping control of his breath and trusting his game. "It was my first few Test matches, and the emotions probably got to me with the crowd. But having a bit of time off to reflect and strengthen my game has helped. Now, hopefully, I get the chance to start in the next Test," Konstas said, reflecting on his debut series against India, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. Selectors confirmed that Konstas will earn his third cap for Australia in the Caribbean in the opening Test against the West Indies, scheduled to kick off on June 25 at Kensington Oval. Konstas missed out on a spot in the World Test Championship final against South Africa by a whisker after selectors opted to promote Marnus Labuschagne at the top. During his outing at Lord's in the WTC final, which turned out to be the last act of faith from selectors, Labuschagne opened alongside Usman Khawaja and returned with scores of 17 and 22. After another unimpressive show, Labuschagne was axed from Australia's squad for the West Indies series. Konstas, who is preparing for the series opener against the Caribbean side, highlighted the importance of his personal diary, allowing him to revisit the basics. "The diary's been important. Just reflecting on games, going back to my checkpoints, especially when you're overseas. It helps me get grounded again," Konstas, who has Test cap No. 468 tattooed on his forearm, added. Konstas gave credit to Australia's seasoned pros for much of his early learnings and said, "I'm just trying to control my breath and have a good relationship with my batting partner to talk about things and how to go through, especially heated moments when the game changes." "I always try to get advice from Uzi [Usman Khawaja], Marnus, Smith, just seeing how they go about things. I'm lucky to be around them, especially at 19. Playing for your country, travelling the world, it really is a dream come true," he added. Australia Test squad: Pat Cummins (c), Sam Konstas, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Steve Smith, Josh Inglis, Travis Head, Alex Carey, Beau Webster, Mitchell Starc, Sean Abbott, Scott Boland, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Matt Kuhnemann. Ishwar Pandey believes Jasprit Bumrah can play all five Tests in England
Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 21 (ANI): Former Indian cricketer and Rewa Jaguars head coach Ishwar Pandey believes that right-arm seamer Jasprit Bumrah will play all five Test matches of the series against England in the ongoing tour. During the announcement of India's squad for the upcoming Test tour of England, chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed Bumrah was advised not to contest in consecutive Tests as part of his workload management. The precaution around Bumrah's usage stems from a stress reaction in the back during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney in January. Speaking to ANI about Bumrah, Ishwar Pandey said, "He has said that. But how his body reacts in the game. There are 5 test matches. There will be more workload. But I think he will play all the test matches. He has said that. But I think he will play all the test matches." Earlier on June 17, Bumrah said that before Rohit and Virat retired, he discussed his workload with the BCCI, considering his physical condition and the demands of a five-Test series. He consulted with his support team and surgeon, leading to a decision to manage his workload more strategically. "Before Rohit and Virat retired, during the IPL, I had spoken to the BCCI. I had discussed my workloads going forward in a five-Test match series. I've spoken to the people who have managed my back, I've spoken to the surgeon as well, who's always spoken to me about how smart you have to be about the workloads. So I did speak to him and then we concluded that I have to be a little smarter," the fast bowler said while speaking on Sky Sports Cricket. "But yeah, captaincy meant a lot. I had worked very hard for it. But unfortunately, sometimes you have to look after the bigger picture. I love cricket more than captaincy. So I want to contribute more as a cricketer and to the Indian team as a player. Ambitions are there, but that's how it is, but I called the BCCI and said I don't want to be looked at in a leadership role," the 31-year-old player added. Bumrah is currently participating in the ongoing Leeds Test at Headingley, which will take place from June 20 to 24. In his previous assignments in England, Bumrah boasted 37 scalps in nine appearances at 26.27 while maintaining an economy of 2.72 and striking at 57.8. (ANI)
