Time of India7 days ago

Vadodara: A pall of gloom descended on Vadodara city as the bodies of five victims of the Ahmedabad airplane crash were cremated on Sunday. The authorities handed them to the family after their DNAs matched on Saturday.
Three of these victims were residents of the Manjalpur area. The body of Kalpana Prajapati was brought to the city at 7 am on Sunday. "Her elder son arrived from the UK on Saturday evening. The final rituals were conducted, and Prajapati's body was cremated in the Manjalpur crematorium in the presence of her family, relatives, and friends," said Tejal Rana, Prajapati's friend. Hundreds turned up at her funeral. Prajapati delayed her visit to the UK as she wanted to travel with her sister-in-law.
She boarded the June 12 flight alone as her sister-in-law's visa was rejected.
Narendra Panchal and his wife Usha, residents of Manjalpur, were also travelling on the fateful flight to meet their son in the UK. Their final rites were conducted on Sunday.
Another victim, Alcena Macwan, had travelled to the city from London to meet her parents who stay in the Nizampura area. She was returning by the ill-fated flight AI 171.

The body of Anju Sharma, a resident of the Samta area, was also brought to the city on Sunday and final rites were performed. "It's a difficult moment for the victims of all the families as they couldn't even see their loved ones for one last time," said a family member.
The Vadodara district administration said that they have deployed 21 liaison officers and 22 doctors to coordinate with the victims' family members and facilitate the final rites. Four officials were sent to Ahmedabad civil hospital to coordinate with the family members of the victims who have reached there to receive the mortal remains.

Udupi: Man held for killing mother over money, family dispute; forensic report points to strangulation

UDUPI: The Manipal police have arrested a man on charges of murdering his mother. The accused has been identified as Esha Naik, 26. According to the police, complainant Shilpa reported that her sister, Padmabai, 45, who was living with her son and daughter-in-law, had been suffering from back pain and was receiving treatment at the Udupi District Government Hospital. On the night of June 18, around 9 pm, when Shilpa spoke to Padmabai, she mentioned that she was experiencing back pain and was unable to get up. Another sister, Meera Bai, asked Padmabai to come to Malpe the next day, where she would arrange a consultation with another doctor. Padmabai replied that she did not have any money, to which Meera Bai assured her that she would cover the expenses, and Padmabai agreed to come. At around 9.24 pm, Padmabai's son, Esha Naik, called Shilpa and asked her to send Rs 1,000 via PhonePe, saying that his mother was unwell and he needed to take her to the hospital. Shilpa agreed, but due to a failure in the PhonePe transaction, the money was not sent. The next day, at 8.40 am, Esha called again and told Shilpa that his mother was not waking up and was lying still in bed. Family members rushed to Padmabai's house, arranged for an ambulance, and took her to the District Ajjarkad Hospital in Udupi. There, doctors examined her and declared her dead. It was observed that there was redness around Padmabai's neck, suggesting pressure or strangulation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Based on the complaint raising suspicions about the cause of death, a case was registered at the Manipal Police Station. 1st or 4th: Girl child is rejected due to deep rooted foeticide racket in Ahmedabad; 5 arrested

AI Image (TIL creatives) AHMEDABAD: Be it the first or the fourth, the girl child continues to be rejected. This was the harsh reality exposed by Ahmedabad Rural Police after they busted a female foeticide racket involving home-based sex determination and illegal abortions. In one case, a woman aborted her first child solely because it was a girl. Another woman, a paramedic, chose abortion when she was pregnant with her third girl child. A 22-year-old woman, already a mother of four girls, terminated her fifth pregnancy after learning it was another girl. 'This case shows that all these abortions were driven by negative attitudes toward the girl child,' said a senior officer of Ahmedabad Rural Police. 'Some of these women were professionals, others were housewives, but all acted under family pressure—especially from husbands and in-laws.' The police arrested nurse Hemlata Darji and radiologist Harshad Acharya, who allegedly conducted sex determination tests and abortions for Rs 15,000 on May 27. Police said Acharya performed tests at his Odhav clinic, while Darji carried out abortions at homes or a Bavla guesthouse. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo 'These were not random acts. This was a planned service. They selected clients carefully, mostly through referrals,' the officer said. 'Clients didn't even visit clinics. Blood samples were picked up by a lab courier, and abortions were done at home.' Officers said that the nurse was networked and if she met a woman in the past, she would offer her help in neutralising a female child. Police found 25 tests were conducted, of which eight foetuses were female. Eight abortions were confirmed so far. Another police officer said that as many as five, including Acharya, Darji, a guest house owner, a woman who underwent abortion, and her sister-in-law, were arrested in the case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act charges.

AI-171 wreckage moved for probe: Truck carrying tail section gets stuck in tree near Shahibaug; traffic halted as police clear path

AHMEDABAD: During the clearance of the Air India Flight 171 crash site in Ahmedabad on Sunday, a truck carrying the aircraft's tail section got stuck near the ACB office near Shahibaug Dafnala after the tail became entangled in a tree. The mishap occurred while the truck was moving the wreckage for further examination. As the tailpiece got lodged in the tree, police authorities were forced to block the road from Shahibaug Dafnala to Camp Hanuman Mandir to ensure safety and allow emergency teams to intervene. Personnel from the police department arrived at the spot along with some locals and detached the tail portion from the tree after trimming branches without causing further obstruction or damage. Traffic on the busy stretch was halted for some time, causing inconvenience to commuters. However, police officials managed to complete the operation swiftly. Once the wreckage was freed and the truck resumed its journey, the road was reopened for public movement. No injuries or property damage were reported in the incident. The aircraft parts are being transported under supervision as part of the ongoing investigation and reconstruction process following the crash of AI171, said ACP of G division VN Yadav. The wreckage will be kept in a hangar for further inquiry into the case, which is being conducted by multiple national and international agencies. On June 12, the AI171 airplane bound for London from the SVPI (Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel) airport in Ahmedabad city crashed in Meghaninagar, in which 241 passengers were killed.
