Premier League legend is 'latest star to join Strictly Come Dancing 2025'

Football fans could see a familiar face on the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor this year - as former Leeds player Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has reportedly been signed to compete on the BBC show With the 2025 season of Strictly Come Dancing just weeks away from launching, more stars are being linked to the show - with a premiere league icon the latest to be tipped to star. Former Leeds United star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is said to be swapping soccer for sequins as a contestant on the long-running BBC show. The 53-year-old Dutch sportsman stands to be the latest in a long line of football legends to take to the Strictly dancefloor. He would follow the likes of Robbie Savage, Alex Scott and Tony Adams to bid for Glitterball Trophy victory. ‌ The former striker was hired as a coach for the England national team in 2023, but stepped away from responsibilities in August last year following manager Gareth Southgate's exit last August. With time on his hands, it is suggested Jimmy could be among the celebrities taking part in Strictly this year. ‌ A source told The Sun: 'Jimmy has a huge fanbase from his years playing in the Premier League and is a very likeable character. Show producers are always keen to book a retired footballer as it gets footie fans tuning into the series and becoming unlikely fans of the show. "Jimmy has a competitive edge and is going to get his head in the game.' The Mirror has contacted representatives of Jimmy and the BBC for comment. Olympian Sir Mo Farah, Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey - better known as Nitro - and former Big Brother contestant Yinrun Huang are among stars tipped to appear in the upcoming new season. Judges Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke are all set to return for the 2025 season - which will be the 23rd in the long history of the show. But after the past two years, bosses are said to be worried about fresh scandal hitting the show. Stirctly has been dragged into disrepute in recent years amid accusations that professional dancers have been physically abusive to their celebrity dance partners. While the celebs have also been accused of offensive behaviour. ‌ Earlier this year, it was reported BBC bosses are practically paralyzed by a "terrible, terrible fear" that more scandal will hit the show - and there have been attempts to clean up the image of the series - and this could also impact star signings. It has been suggested the BBC are taking steps to go risk free and leaving no stone unturned to make sure the line-up is as safe as possible for the 2025 season. Blue Peter presenters Joel Mawhinney and Shini Muthukrishnan are said to be under consideration - as is Tom Parker Bowles, the son of Queen Camilla. Georgia Toffolo - the I'm a Celebrity Jungle Queen - is reportedly being lined up, as is Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts. Newly married former Love Island star Dani Dyer is being considered, it has been reported, with former Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan another name high up on bosses' list. ‌ "There is a terrible, terrible fear among those high up that these awful things are going to keep happening and the show will be brought into disrepute again and again," one well-place BBC insider has told MailOnline. "With that in mind, they are taking no chances. "There will be stringent checks, and asking around, and digging into potential stars' backgrounds to make sure that they're not choosing anyone who might damage the show. For years, there was the whole Strictly 'curse' where the contestants and professionals kept having affairs. But that stopped. "Changes were made to the partnerships and it worked. There have been other issues in the past couple of years, though. What's been even more embarrassing for the BBC is that Wynne and Jamie have been from their own stable of stars. Going forward, those at the top want a wholesome image to shine through. No more scandal – just joy." The report came after 2024 contestant Jamie Borthwick, who is known for playing Jay Brown in the BBC soap EastEnders, was forced to issue a groveling apology after footage was reportedly uncovered showing him making derogatory comments about the people of Blackpool.

Tonight's Cardiff City news as first summer transfer announced and coach targeted The latest Bluebirds news from Cardiff City Stadium Cardiff City goalkeeping coach Gavin Ward (back, centre) is reportedly wanted by Millwall (Image: Getty Images ) Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Saturday, June 21. Goalkeeper joins Cymru Premier side Cardiff City academy goalkeeper Luke Armstrong has joined Cymru Premier side Penybont. The 18-year-old has put pen to paper on a season-long loan deal with the Bridged club ahead of the upcoming campaign. ‌ Armstrong began his career at Wolves but made the move to the Welsh capital back in 2022 and has since turned out for both the under-18s and under-21s sides. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community ‌ Last season, after signing professional terms with the club, he suffered a frustrating injury lay-off, which saw him sidelined for two months. After recovering from the grade two MCL and MPFL tear, he became a regular fixture for the junior team thereafter. An injury-free campaign against senior players will be what the academy staff have in mind for the youngster over the next 12 months, using Welsh football's top tier to their loan advantage once more. Armstrong trained regularly with first-team goalkeepers Jak Alnwick and Ethan Horvath last term. Opening up on that experience recently, he said: "It's massive to be given a chance to train with the first team, it is just a different level. Article continues below "I'm lucky to work with Jak, Ethan and Matt [Turner] sometimes, they're experienced goalkeepers, Ethan at an international level and Jak has played through all the leagues, so, it's really good to pick their brains and watch them train, watch the tempo they train at, see how clean they are, and start taking things into my own game." Millwall target Cardiff coach Ward Millwall are reportedly eyeing Cardiff City goalkeeper coach Gavin Ward. Brian Barry-Murphy has already announced that he will bring in Lee Riley from Manchester City's academy setup and he will serve as the head coach's first-team assistant. ‌ Barry-Murphy is likely to take stock of the staff in place over the coming days and weeks before making any more appointments to his backroom team. The likes of Darren Purse and Tom Ramasut, who were part of Omer Riza's staff, won't be involved at first-team level. However, Ward was kept on by Aaron Ramsey, who threw together his own patchwork staff for the final three games of the campaign. Earlier this week, Barry-Murphy said he would hold talks with the current staff before considering whether to make additions or improvements on that front. Now, South London journalist Rich Cawley has claimed Ward is the subject of interest from Championship outfit Millwall. Ward's last job before joining Cardiff, for whom he turned out as a player, of course, was in London at QPR, where he worked as a goalkeeper coach for nine years. ‌ "I'm waiting to meet the rest of the staff," Barry-Murphy said earlier this week. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community "Jonny Northeast (head of performance), Gavin Ward, people like that. I know there's discussion around [Ward], his contract is expiring. But I've not spoken to him yet." It is understood that Cardiff are hopeful of adding another member of staff to Brian Barry-Murphy's team —not a goalkeeper coach— and are currently in negotiations to get him out of his current contract. We are told it is yet to be decided if Ward will stay on past the end of the month. ‌ Rinomhota pens message to fans Andy Rinomhota has issued a statement following the announcement that he will leave at the end of the month. Rinomhota becomes the ninth and final out-of-contract player to be told that his deal will not be getting renewed and he has written a message to supporters following the decision. "My time at Cardiff City comes to an end after three years full of ups, downs, and lessons I'll carry with me. It wasn't always perfect and there were challenges, but I'll always be grateful for the journey," he wrote. ‌ "Thank you to everyone who's been involved along the way. To the fans, staff, and players I shared the pitch with, it was an honour and thank you for being part of this chapter. "I leave with nothing but respect and gratitude towards the club and fans. "Wishing the club all the best for the future and hoping they get back to where they belong. Best wishes, Bluebirds." Davies: Ralls leaves as a legend Cardiff City players have flocked to social media to pay tribute to Joe Ralls upon the news he will be leaving the club after 15 years of service. ‌ It is testament to the player and the man just how many have issued their heartfelt thanks for the impact he has had on them and here is a selection from the dressing room. "Roomie, thank you for everything. You've helped me and taken me under your wing from the start and I'll always appreciate that. You leave the club as a legend. All the best, skip," Isaak Davies said. Jak Alnwick said: "An absolute legend on and off the pitch. Going to be a massive miss. Been a pleasure sharing a pitch and dressing room with you." Article continues below Callum O'Dowda wrote: "My right-hand man. Good luck." Ryan Wintle said: "Gonna miss my partner. All the best, skip." Ollie Tanner said: "A pleasure to share the dressing room with you mate. Thanks for everything and wish you all the best, brother." Joel Bagan added: "Thank you for everything, all the best, skip." Yakou Meite, Perry Ng, Aaron Ramsey, Eli King and Rinomhota all called him a "legend" in their brief Instagram tributes.

Gabby Logan makes 'unhealthy' admission after brother's heartbreaking death

Gabby Logan makes 'unhealthy' admission after brother's heartbreaking death Gabby Logan, who is set to be part of the Match of the Day presenting team next season, has issued an admission after her brother's death Gabby has been part of the presenting team on some of the biggest sporting events down the years (Image: Visionhaus/Getty Images ) Gabby Logan has issued a deeply personal admission about her past, revealing that she was making "unhealthy choices" following her brother Daniel's death. Daniel died suddenly in 1992 due to an underlying heart condition. He collapsed while playing football with their father, Terry Yorath, the former professional Welsh footballer. ‌ It was later found that Daniel, who had been signed to play for Leeds United just before his death, had undiagnosed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy — a heart disease that affects the heart's ability to pump blood around the body. ‌ The future Match of the Day presenter opened up about her brother's heartbreaking death during a wide-ranging interview with The Times, saying that she is living "for two people." The Times reports that the 19-year-old Logan pulled herself together and, in the funeral parlour, seeing her brother for the last time, she made him a promise: "I am going to do everything I can to make your life count." While Daniel's death has driven her to a number of impressive sporting and personal accomplishments, the tragedy also led to a disrupted relationship with her father and caused her to fall into an unhealthy pattern when choosing men. Article continues below Gabby is set to form part of Match Of The Day's new presenting team next season (Image: Visionhaus/Getty Images ) In her candid memoir, Gabby said that, for a few years, she sought the company of "not very appropriate, older men." One such relationship began when Logan was just 16, during the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand. She caught the attention of 26-year-old long-distance runner Gary Staines, who was engaged at the time. ‌ A year later, following the end of his marriage, Logan moved into his flat in London. Though the relationship ended when she started studying law at Durham University, Gabby admits that the emotional patterns continued into her early twenties, even as her professional career was taking off. 'I didn't like myself very much,' she confesses. 'I was probably wanting to mend something because our family was quite broken, because of my brother dying. I felt I could create something like a family, a happy place. Those were the relationships I was pursuing.' ‌ Kenny and Gabby Logan BBC Breakfast News It wasn't until she began therapy that Logan was able to confront the underlying reasons for her choices and recognise the emotional damage being caused. 'A bit of guidance from a therapist helped me recognise those patterns were not healthy. That was a good time for it to happen, because in my early twenties I realised I wasn't enjoying relationships I was in. It didn't seem like a good way to be.' Article continues below The presenter, 52, will be replacing Gary Lineker on the BBC series Match of the Day, where he was the broadcaster's highest-paid star on £1.35 million a year. Gabby, Mark Chapman, and Kelly Cates are set to split presenting duties for Match of the Day and Match of the Day 2 when they begin their new roles upon Gary's departure.
