Soldiers must excel in combat skills, mental stability, spirituality to tackle complex challenges: Rajnath
New Delhi, Apr 21 (UNI) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said that to tackle the challenges emanating from today's constantly evolving nature of warfare, it is necessary for soldiers to not only excel in combat skills but also maintain mental stability and spiritual empowerment.
Rajnath Singh while addressing an event organised at the Brahma Kumaris Headquarters in Mount Abu, Rajasthan emphasised that, now-a-days, wars are being fought on cyber, space, information and psychological fronts and there is a need for soldiers to become mentally strong as the nation can be protected with not just weapons, but also with strong personality, enlightened consciousness and awareness.
The Defence Minister pointed out that while physical strength is fundamental for a soldier, mental strength is equally vital. He stated that soldiers protect the nation while serving in difficult conditions, and these challenges are overcome through an energy born out of a strong inner-self.
He added that prolonged stress, uncertainty and working in difficult conditions could affect the mental health, which calls for strengthening the inner self. The Brahma Kumaris' campaign to bolster the mental health of soldiers is a commendable step in that direction, he said.
He further added that this initiative will further strengthen the minds of the soldiers in view of the present global geopolitical scenario.
'The theme of the campaign 'Self-Empowerment - Through Inner Awakening' is extremely interesting and relevant in today's times. Self transformation through meditation, yoga, positive thinking and self-dialogue will provide mental, emotional and spiritual strength to our brave soldiers. Self transformation is the seed, national transformation is its fruit. In an atmosphere of global uncertainty, India can spread the message that protection of inner-self and borders is possible together,' he said.
He described spirituality and yoga, which are ingrained in India's culture, as the biggest means to enhance mental well-being and deal with stress, anxiety and emotional turmoil. He said, an alert and strong security personnel becomes a lighthouse for the nation, which can face any storm with determination.
He acknowledged the Security Service Wing of the Brahma Kumaris organisation for bolstering the security forces through residential, field and online programmes, special campaigns and force specific projects.
As part of the event, an MoU was signed between the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence and Headquarters SSW, Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation of Brahma Kumaris in the presence of Shri Rajnath Singh.
The aim is to guide Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) beneficiaries towards achieving better mental health and reducing dependency of medicines.

Raipur, Jun 22 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually inaugurated the temporary campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) and I-Hub Raipur in Nava Raipur on Sunday. Shah said that this marks a historic day for Chhattisgarh in the direction of modernising and scientifying the criminal justice system. The NFSU temporary campus and I-Hub will be developed at a cost of Rs 268 crores. The campus will offer BSc, MSc in Forensic Science, Cyber Security, Psychology, Digital Forensic, and professional diploma courses from the academic session 2025-26. Shah highlighted that these institutions will not only empower Chhattisgarh but also the entire central India with modern justice and crime investigation capabilities. He added that new forensic technologies like DNA fingerprinting, cyber security, and digital forensic will be accessible locally, making investigations faster and more accurate. The Home Minister urged the youth to become entrepreneurs and start their own startups, leveraging the I-Hub's resources and support. He also praised the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and Deputy CM Vijay Sharma for their efforts in taking the anti-Naxalite campaign to a decisive phase. Shah appealed to Naxalites to surrender and join the development journey of Chhattisgarh. He assured that graduating from NFSU under the Modi government will guarantee employment. The NFSU's permanent campus is expected to be fully developed within three years, opening up vast career opportunities for Chhattisgarh's youth in forensic science. Shah underscored that the new criminal laws aim to ensure justice within three years and establish a modern, science-based criminal justice system. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and Deputy CM Vijay Sharma also spoke on the occasion, stressing the significance of NFSU and I-Hub in empowering the state's youth and strengthening law and order. PM Modi receives call from Iran President; calls for de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy
New Delhi, June 22 (UNI) Amid the US joining the Israeli attacks on Iran, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today received a call from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian who briefed him on the current situation. PM Modi, while expressing concern at the escalation, called for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward for restoration of regional peace and security. In a post on X, the PM said: 'Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. 'We discussed in detail about the current situation. 'Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability.' A readout of the call, said that PM Modi 'received a telephone call from the President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian today'. "President Pezeshkian briefed PM in detail and shared his perspective on the current situation in the region, especially the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. "PM expressed India's deep concern at the recent escalations. PM conveyed that India was on the side of peace and humanity. In this context, PM emphasised the need for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward. He reiterated India's support for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability. 'Prime Minister thanked President Pezeshkian for the continued support being extended for safe return and repatriation of the Indian community. The two leaders reiterated shared commitment to continue to work for strengthening bilateral cooperation in different areas including trade and economic cooperation, Science & Technology and people-to-people ties. 'They agreed to remain in touch.' The call between the two leaders came as US President Donald Trump said he had 'obliterated' Iran's main nuclear sites in strikes overnight, joining an Israeli assault in a major new escalation of conflict in the Middle East, even as Tehran vowed to defend itself. Iran termed the US attack a grave violation of international law that would have 'everlasting consequences'. Stealth frigate Tamal to be inducted into Indian Navy on July 1
New Delhi, June 22 (UNI) The Indian Navy is all set to commission its latest stealth multi-role frigate, 'Tamal', at Kaliningrad in Russia on July one. Tamal is the eighth in the series of Krivak class frigates inducted from Russia over the past two decades. It is the second ship of the Tushil Class, which are the upgraded versions of their predecessors, Talwar and Teg classes having three ships each, an official statement said here on Sunday. The ship has 26 percent indigenous components, including the BrahMos long-range cruise missile for targeting both at sea and land. The ship has significant upgrades in its arsenal in comparison to its predecessors, such as vertically launched surface-to-air missiles, improved 100 MM gun, new age EO/IR (Electro-Optical/Infrared) system in addition to the standard 30 MM CIWS (close-in weapon system), heavyweight torpedoes, urgent-attack anti-submarine rockets, and a host of surveillance and fire control radars and systems. India as part of the broader contract for Tushil class is also building two similar frigates, called the Triput class, at Goa Shipyard Limited with transfer of technology and design assistance from the Russian side. By the conclusion of this series of ships, Indian Navy will be operating 10 ships with similar capabilities and commonality in equipment, weapon and sensor fit over four different classes. Tamal has been built at Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia, and is the last warship to be inducted from a foreign source, in line with the Government of India's impetus on Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives. The crew, comprising of over 250 personnel, have undergone rigorous ashore as well as afloat training in extremely challenging winter conditions of St Petersburg and Kaliningrad, Russia. Tamal has successively completed extensive sea trials undertaken over three months, proving its systems, weapons and sensors. The ship's name, Tamal, symbolises the mythical sword used for combat by Indra - the King of the gods. The ship's mascot is inspired by the congruence of the 'Jambavant' the immortal bear king of Indian mythology and the Russian national animal - the Eurasian Brown Bear. The ship's crew collectively takes great pride in calling themselves the 'The Great Bears'. Tamal stands as a testament to the longstanding Indo-Russian cooperation and friendship which has stood the test of time. The ship's motto, 'Sarvada Sarvatra Vijaya' (Victorious Always Everytime) signifies the Indian Navy's undying commitment to operational excellence in every mission, complementing its motto 'Combat Ready, Credible, Cohesive and Future Ready Force Safeguarding National Maritime Interests – Anytime, Anywhere'. The 125 metre long, 3900-ton warship, packs a lethal punch. Tamal is an impressive blend of Indian and Russian cutting-edge technologies and best practices in warship construction. Upon commissioning, Tamal will join the 'Sword Arm' of the Indian Navy, the Western Fleet, under the Western Naval Command. It will not only be a symbol of Indian Navy's growing capabilities but also exemplifying collaborative strength of the India-Russia partnership. UNI RBE SS
