Shifted teachers to get new postings by June 20: Govt
Patna: All 1.30 lakh teachers who have been transferred within Bihar will receive their new school allotments by June 20 and are required to join their new postings by June 30. The announcement was made on Saturday by S Siddharth, additional chief Secretary of the state's education department.
Transferred teachers will be automatically relieved from their previous postings upon joining the newly allotted schools.
Responding to queries during his weekly programme Shiksha ki Baat – Har Shanivaar, Siddharth urged transferred teachers not to make unnecessary visits to the district education office (DEO), stressing that the school allocation process is being conducted with complete transparency.
He also addressed concerns about students not receiving their textbooks before the summer holidays.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the issue, he assured that textbooks would be made available immediately after the holidays. "I will personally review the matter and take action against those found guilty," he said.
During his address, Siddharth also shared several suggestions for parents. He recommended creating dedicated reading corners at home to help children develop a focused study environment. He stressed the importance of attending every parent-teacher meeting to stay updated on their children's academic progress and to identify areas where additional support may be needed.
He suggested recognising children selected as 'Student of the Week' in front of their parents to boost their confidence.
Reminding parents that holiday homework had been given before the summer break and is also available on the department's website, he encouraged children to enjoy their holidays with family, either by travelling or taking part in summer camps organised by the department.

Security, surveillance in place for counting of votes tomorrow
Ludhiana: District election officer Himanshu Jain Saturday said elaborate arrangements are in place for the smooth counting of votes polled for the Ludhiana West bypoll. At sharp 7 am on June 23, the counting of votes and postal ballots will commence in the presence of election observers, candidates, and their authorised representatives. An official statement said robust security measures, including the deployment of paramilitary forces at the counting centres to safeguard electronic voting machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines, have been implemented. The entire process is being continuously monitored through CCTV surveillance. The DEO emphasised that entry to the counting centres will be strictly regulated, allowing only candidates, their representatives, media personnel, and authorised individuals with valid identity cards issued by the ECI. Fourteen candidates are in the fray for the seat, including AAP's Sanjeev Arora, Congress' Bharat Bhushan Ashu, BJP's Jiwan Gupta, and SAD's advocate Parupkar Singh Ghuman. Chief electoral officer Sibin C Thursday said the voter turnout, as per data uploaded till 7pm on the voting day, was 51.33%. As part of a new initiative, polling data was uploaded on the ECINET app by the presiding officers at the respective polling stations. A total of 194 polling stations were set up. Besides the provision of assured minimum facilities at each polling station, for the first time, a mobile deposit facility was created at the entrance of all polling stations.

15 teachers dismissed in Buxar over selection irregularities
Buxar: Education department on Friday dismissed 15 teachers in Buxar who were appointed through the teachers' recruitment examination (TRE), citing serious irregularities in their selection. The action was taken by district education officer, Amarendra Kumar Pandey. According to official sources, 14 of the dismissed teachers are residents of Uttar Pradesh (UP), who fraudulently claimed the benefits of reservation meant exclusively for candidates with domicile of Bihar. In addition to this, these teachers secured less than the required 60% marks in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), making them ineligible under the general category. One more teacher was dismissed for not studying Urdu at the Intermediate level, despite being appointed as an Urdu teacher. The DEO cited official correspondence from the director of secondary education (letter no. 1341; May 15, 2024) and deputy director (letter no. 1507; July 15, 2024), which stated that reservation benefits are not to be extended to non-residents of Bihar. Protest held demanding fee regulation
Puttaparthi: Led by State student JAC president Amar Yadav, student activists on Wednesday staged a protest in front of the DEO office demanding control over exorbitant fees charged by corporate educational institutions in the drought-affected district. The protestors alleged that private institutions such as Chaitanya, Narayana, Keshava Reddy, SR, Bhashyam, Era, Montessori Global, and HPS are collecting amounts ranging from Rs 9,000 to Rs 19,000 in the name of textbooks alone. DEO Prasad Babu reportedly verified this by presenting evidence of book prices. Student leaders criticised public representatives for turning education into business and demanded their resignation. They further alleged that corporate schools are collecting lakhs of rupees under different streams like C-Batch, M-Batch, Techno IPL, Olympiad, Spark, IIT, and Learning International. Protesters highlighted lack of playgrounds in these schools, stating that many institutions operate from five or six story buildings, which is against safety norms. They questioned the DEO as to who will be held accountable in case of accidents and demanded strict enforcement of regulations. In response, DEO Prasad Babu assured that action would be taken against schools violating norms based on the complaints brought forward.
