Sydney has just welcomed a brand-new culture hub in the heart of the CBD
There was a time when Martin Place was all about shoe shiners and corporate coffee stops. But with venues like The International, Centro 86, Morena and the boundary-pushing City Recital Hall breathing new life into the area, those days are behind us. The CBD heartland (and Sydney Metro superhub) has been quietly glowing up over the past few years, and today, it's officially launching its rebrand. MP District is Martin Place 2.0: a cultural corridor connecting Sydneysiders to some of the best venues in the city, all with the help of a nifty online tool known as a 'cultural concierge'. Intrigued? Us too.
First up, let's cover the area itself. MP District stretches from George Street to Macquarie Street, and incorporates some of the Time Out team's favourite CBD venues (we're guessing they might be your favourites too). MP District members include two of the city's very best cultural institutions (Theatre Royal Sydney and the City Recital Hall), Time Out Sydney's cocktail bar of the year Centro 86 and the magnificent new multi-level venue The International. The precinct is also home to some of the city's most historic buildings including the 151-year-old General Post Office (GPO) and the State Library of NSW.
To help Sydneysiders make the most of the close proximity of these Sydney icons, MP District has launched a first-of-its-kind 'cultural concierge' tool. The online tool allows you to follow curated trails through this buzzing pocket of the city, or create your own itinerary based on what you hope to see, do, drink and eat. Want to score a deal at happy hour, then catch a show, then get a late-night bite? Or keen to explore some art, eat lunch somewhere new and round out your day with some retail therapy? The cultural concierge tool will map out your evening for you, helping you to milk Sydney's newest precinct for all it's worth.
Located on the traditional lands of the Gadigal people, MP District is essentially a new chapter for this section of Sydney's CBD – turning what was once a relatively soulless corporate corner of the city into a connected, vibrant destination in its own right. Janson Hews, MP District President, explained 'MP District is more than a place to pass through, it's a precinct to linger in, connect and return to.'
You can learn more about MP District and try the cultural concierge service for yourself via the MP District website. See you in the CBD.

In Sydney's Koreatown you can experience the best of K-culture without the journey
With its buzzing nightlife scene, cutting-edge cultural landscape and incredible cuisine, South Korea is quickly becoming a top holiday destination for Sydneysiders looking for an inspiring and delicious escape But if you don't have the dosh to fund plane tickets all the way to Seoul, fear not. In the heart of Sydney's CBD – specifically along the Haymarket stretch of Pitt Street – you'll find Sydney's very own Koreatown: home to a vibrant mix of Korean restaurants, shops and bars serving up Big Seoul Energy in spades. And Squid Game fans, listen up! To celebrate the final season of Netflix's hit series, Netflix will be putting on some very special Squid Game experiences in some of the following Koreatown venues: Sil Bi Jip The good times seriously roll at this lively, affordable Korean street food diner and bar. Our advice? Order a round of Somaek (soju and beer cocktails) and the owner Dennis will make them at your table – splashing Korean beer into soju with lively theatrics. Alongside a strong line-up of tasty street food-style dishes and affordable drinks, you'll find retro games and live music every Saturday from 7pm. Butchers Buffet The name of this beloved Korean BBQ spot tells you all you need to know. Pile your plate up high with unlimited fresh cuts of beef, pork and chicken, then get grilling – all-you-can-eat seatings last for 90 minutes, and you'll fill your belly for less than $50 per person. Hama Film X Kono Karaoke This photobooth and karaoke bar is your one-stop-shop for late-night, Korea-style fun. It's open until 2am Sundays through Thursdays, and until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays, so you can settle in for a good few hours of karaoke and walk away with a head full of memories and a fist full of photos from the fun. A 13-song karaoke session will set you back just $20, so it's a super affordable (and fun) end to your night. Allta Allta is an elevated Korean restaurant that serves delicate, carefully crafted degustation menus in a stunning, marble-trimmed space. The intimate restaurant seats only 12 guests, so you can guarantee you'll get the VIP treatment. Buttered This Korean bakery in Chippendale is best known for its salt bread – the sweet and salty buttery rolls that have gone viral on social media. But there's a lot more on offer at Buttered – come for the salt bread, stay for the light-as-a-feather tissue bread and incredibly Instagrammable waterfall cake. 789 Korean BBQ This popular Korean barbecue joint is by the same team behind 678 Korean BBQ in Haymarket and Eastwood, so you know there are experts on hand firing up the grill. Come to this sprawling Darling Square establishment for delicious caramelised meat and excellent soju. Sáng by Mabasa Found on Fitzroy Street in Surry Hills, away from the main hustle of Koreatown, this small, family-run eatery specialises in modern Korean dishes. The lunch menu is affordable and delicious – with the crisp kimchi pancake, bulgogi and golden fried chicken wings being our picks. At night, there's an ace set menu for $85 per person. Hansang Haymarket This family-run restaurant serves one of Sydney's most beloved beef soups, and so much more. The super extensive menu features all of your Korean faves – from bibimbap and hot pot to a must-order seafood pancake. Arrive hungry. Hana Cosmetics This local-loved cosmetics store in the heart of Haymarket is stocked to the gunnels with Korean beauty products. It's open until 8pm every night, so you can pop in on your way to dinner or karaoke and stock up on K-Beauty essentials. Rococo Seoul Want to dress the part? Rococo Seoul is one of Sydney's very best Korean fashion stores, selling an excellent line in Korean fashion from some of the country's favourite brands. You'll find this fashion haven in Chippendale's Central Park Mall.

Six of Sydney's favourite personalities have shared their secret spots for a perfect day
When a friend visits Sydney from out of town, chances are you don't rush to tell them about how good it is to get a picture in front of the ferries at Circular Quay, or splash in the waves at Bondi Beach. Sydney's icons are famous enough – and it's our hidden gems, the places that Sydneysiders carve out time for outside of our own 9-5, that are really worth recommending. With that in mind, we got top picks from some of Sydney's favourite people. First up: the man behind Sydney's fastest mullet. Electrician turned ultramarathon runner Nedd Brockmann, who's lived in Randwick for the past four years, has shared his top spots to run, recover and refuel in the Harbour City. FYI, over at you can now book a place on a Brockmann-approved running tour around the CBD, then schedule a recovery session at Surry Hills bathhouse Capybara before booking in for dinner at one of the athlete's favourite restaurants in the city, Luke Mangan's Luc San in Potts Point. Olympian Jess Fox 's top Sydney itinerary is also active. Jess's perfect day starts with kayaking at dawn on Sydney Harbour, flying across the Jamieson Valley with Scenic World 's Beyond Skyway experience, then heading to Theo's Rooftop in her local area, Penrith, for sunset drinks. Conveniently, her itinerary is also, available to book via the site. Turns out Aria-winning artist Budjerah is an adventurous guy, because he recommends a sunrise balloon ride over Camden, followed by a surfing session at URBNSURF, rounded out with the incredible BridgeClimb Burrawa Aboriginal Climb experience. Content kings The Inspired Unemployed are high-energy guys – they recommend having a "mystery picnic" in the Royal Botanic Gardens, jet boating on Sydney Harbour with Oz Jet Boating and doing paddle board yoga with Manly-based yoga studio Flow mOcean. Podcaster, writer and comedy queen Lucinda Price (Froomes) is all about balance – with recommendations spanning from a snorkelling session at Shelly Beach to winding up at the Ace Hotel for dinner and drinks (with a backstage tour of Sydney Opera House thrown in the mix for a bit of culture). Finally, one of our city's most beloved chefs: the mighty Dan Hong (Mr Wong, MuMu, Queen Chow) has put together a flavour-led itinerary that will take Sydneysiders on a food tour of Chinatown and to an immersive oyster-tasting experience on the Hawkesbury. Minister for Tourism Steve Kamper says he agrees Sydney needs to do a better job of highlighting its many hidden gems, quoting Time Out's recent global round-up, which saw Sydney rank as the fifth-best city in the world for culture: 'Sydney was just ranked as one of Time Out's top five global cities for culture, but when you ask Australians about Sydney they'll say 'I've already seen the Harbour Bridge'. What is clear in the research is that our icons alone are not enough to get people to visit and revisit Sydney. We need to do a better job at showcasing all our city has to offer, we need to be more than our icons.' At Time Out Sydney, we make it our mission to shine a light on Sydney's best bits on a daily basis, so we're big fans of this approach. And .
