Harris Yulin dead at 87
Harris Yulin has passed away at the age of 87.
The iconic actor died on Tuesday following a cardiac arrest, his family confirmed on Wednesday.
His family and manager, Sue Leibman, shared news of his passing with Deadline.
Yulin was born on 5 November 1937 in Los Angeles, California, and made his acting debut on stage in New York in 1963.
He went on to build a long and successful career, appearing in over 130 productions on both the big and small screen.
Major film credits included appearing in Scarface and Ghostbusters II, while TV credits included appearances on major shows including Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
He was Emmy nominated for a guest appearance on the sitcom Frasier in 1996, and more recent credits included Ozark, Veep and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
He had been due to appear in the forthcoming MGM+ series American Classic alongside Kevin Kline and Laura Linney and directed by Michael Hoffman and had been preparing for the role.
Hoffman told Deadline, "Harris Yulin was very simply one of the greatest artists I have ever encountered.
"His marriage of immense technique with an always fresh sense of discovery, gave his work an immediacy and vitality and purity I've experienced nowhere else.
"And what he was as an actor, he was as a man, the grace, the humility, the generosity. All of us at American Classic have been blessed by our experience with him. He will always remain the beating heart of our show".
Yulin was married to actress Gwen Welles from 1975 until her death in 1993, and then later married Kristen Lowman in 2005.
The star is survived by family including Lowman and son-in-law Ted Mineo, and was predeceased by his daughter, actress Claire Lucido.

Road House 2 Cast Adds MCU Star as Possible Villain
Amazon MGM Studios has officially enlisted the first key cast member, who will be joining the cast for its upcoming sequel to the 2024 action remake. This comes nearly two months after it was announced that The Gentlemen director Guy Ritchie had signed on to helm the project. Guardians of the Galaxy vet Dave Bautista has been tapped to star opposite returning lead star Jake Gyllenhaal in Road House 2. The former WWE wrestler will reportedly be playing a former fighter, just like Gyllenhaal's character. At the moment, it's unclear if he would be playing the sequel's newest antagonist or not. The first installment featured UFC champion Conor McGregor as the main villain. The casting search for the new characters is still underway. Ritchie will be directing from a screenplay written by Bad Boys: Ride or Die's Will Beall. This marks Ritchie's reunion project with Gyllenhaal, after previously working with Gyllenhaal in the 2023 action drama movie The Covenant, which received positive reviews from both critics and audiences alike. Ritchie is succeeding the first installment's director, Doug Liman, whose return was unlikely following his public criticisms of Amazon and MGM Studios over their decision to release the movie through streaming instead of giving it a wide theatrical release. The Road House remake was directed by Liman from a screenplay written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry. It received a Tomatometer rating of 60% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 205 reviews. ‘The Bear' Season 4: The plot, returning cast members, release date and more. Where Carmy, Sydney and the restaurant go from here.
'Every second counts,' and that's made no clearer than on FX's The Bear. Returning on June 25, the Emmy-winning series will transport audiences back to the chaotic fine dining restaurant helmed by tortured culinary genius Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White). FX quietly renewed the series for a fourth season in March 2024. The latest season was filmed back-to-back with season 3, Deadline reported. Ahead, we break down everything you need to know before The Bear returns. The season three finale ends with a foreboding 'to be continued' on the screen. In the final scene of the season, Carmy looks down at his phone to see that the Chicago Tribune review of his restaurant has posted — and that he has a number of missed calls from both Cicero (Oliver Platt) and the Computer (Brian Koppelman). We don't get a close enough look at the review to fully know whether it's positive or negative, though fans have tried to decipher what it says. Carmy angrily exclaims 'motherf***er' after reading it — if that's any sort of indication. And if the review is bad, Cicero will stop funding the restaurant. Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), meanwhile, has a tough decision to make: Will she sign the partnership agreement and stick it out with the Bear or jump ship and take up former Ever chef Adam Shapiro's offer as his new chef de cuisine? Carmy's strict list of non-negotiables and toxic pursuit of culinary excellence could be enough reason for Sydney to cut ties with him and start new elsewhere. The Bear has previously featured a noteworthy roster of guest stars like John Cena as Sammy Fak and Josh Hartnett as the fiancé of Richie's ex-wife Tiff (Gillian Jacobs), who were both introduced in the third season. Jon Bernthal, beloved for his role as Carmy and Sugar's big brother who passed away, and Joel McHale as David Fields, Carmy's abusive old boss from New York, also appear in flashbacks throughout the series. Will Poulter as chef Luca and Olivia Colman as chef Terry emerged as fan favorites during the show's second season. Neither has outright confirmed they're returning, but Poulter's made his adoration of the show common knowledge. 'I really hope so,' Poulter told the Los Angeles Times in April of whether he'd be returning to The Bear. 'I love that show so much. The fact I get to be in it is crazy. When I'm on that set, I'm like, 'Oh, they've let a fan on set.' I literally feel like a competition winner.' The cast has remained pretty mum on details surrounding the Emmy-winning series' fourth season. What we do know, though, is that Edebiri, who made her directorial debut with Season 3, Episode 6's 'Napkins' on The Bear, also cowrote an episode for Season 4 with Boyce. 'Each season I've gotten to do different things,' Edebiri told actor-director Ramy Youssef for Cultured magazine. 'Last season I directed for the first time and this season I've written an episode. It's been a minute since I've written for TV, and I've learned so much since the last time — even something as simple as knowing what it's like to shoot an overnight. So, my episode will be taking place during the day.'
