Time of India4 hours ago

Pune: A team of doctors from Army Hospital (Research and Referral) flew in on an Indian Air Force's Super Hercules aircraft on Friday night to collect and transport a liver and two kidneys from a 59-year-old brain-dead woman in Pune to New Delhi for transplantation, after her family generously consented to organ donation.
The donor, mother of a serving soldier, was declared brain-dead at Command Hospital on on June 17. "The team retrieved a liver, two kidneys and two corneas in under four hours before taking off to Delhi, where the liver was transplanted into a civilian patient. The two kidneys were transplanted into two serving soldiers. The donor saved three lives," said a senior doctor from Command Hospital.
A green air corridor was created for the aircraft to facilitate the airlift of live organs from Pune to Delhi.
"Under the green air corridor protocol, the aircraft gets priority for take-off and landing. Besides, all ground clearances, including radars, get an alert in advance for the smooth flying of the aircraft," a senior IAF officer told TOI.
"This humanitarian mission was enabled by seamless coordination between Armed Forces Medical Services and IAF, ensuring that the organs reached in time to save multiple lives. The noble act of the donor family stands as a testament to selfless sacrifice, even in the face of personal loss.

Such missions highlight the Armed Forces' unwavering dedication not just to national security, but also to humanity," stated a statement issued by the Southern Command through Defence PRO, Pune.
The Command Hospital has successfully conducted organ transplants in the last two years. "The perfect coordination with all the agencies, including police, was necessary to carry out the operation. Over the years, we have established a standard operating procedure," the officer said.

Fatehabad constable's infant son battles rare genetic disorder, cops across 6 dists mobilise to raise funds

Hisar: Eight-month-old Yuvansh, the son of Fatehabad police's cyber cell constable Rajesh, is battling Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type-1 (SMA), one of the rarest and most severe genetic disorders affecting infants. His survival depends on a life-saving injection costing Rs 14.5 crore, which must be procured from Switzerland. In a show of solidarity, police departments across six districts have joined hands to help raise the required amount. Rohtak additional director general of police Y Puran Kumar has written to the superintendents of police (SPs) in Rohtak, Bhiwani, and Charkhi Dadri urging officers to donate one day's salary for the cause. SPs of Kaithal (Aastha Modi) and Sirsa (Mayank Gupta) have also issued similar appeals. Policemen in Fatehabad are contributing at the local level as well. It is estimated that if officers across these districts contribute one day's salary, it could generate a significant portion of the funds required. Constable Rajesh and his wife Kiran, a clerk in the food supply department, are receiving support not only from the police but also from employees of her department. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Public awareness campaigns and fundraising efforts have also gained traction on social media platforms. Constable Rajesh has also met Hisar ADGP K K Rao in his appeal for assistance. Yuvansh was born on April 9, 2024. His parents noticed that by the time he was two months old, he was not showing normal physical development. After consulting multiple doctors and undergoing various tests, the family received confirmation of SMA on May 18, 2025. The condition was further reviewed by doctors at PGI Chandigarh, who advised urgent administration of the Zolgensma gene therapy injection — considered one of the most expensive drugs in the world. Doctors emphasised that the injection must be administered before the age of two for the best possible outcome, followed by continued treatment for at least two to three months. In a desperate appeal, constable Rajesh has reached out to several prominent personalities and institutions for help. His pleas have been directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CM Nayab Saini, actors Salman Khan and Sonu Sood, transport minister Anil Vij, MP Naveen Jindal, the Tata Foundation, industrialist Gautam Adani, and the Union health ministry. Meticulous planning pays off as Vizag yoga day event concludes without a hitch

1 2 3 Visakhapatnam: Meticulous month-long planning made the International Yoga Day event in Visakhapatnam, graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the chief guest, a resounding success. Despite the turnout of over three lakh participants on a 26-kilometre stretch starting from RK beach, a compartmentalised coordination system involving nearly 30 govt employees and volunteers overseeing logistics such as transportation, food, sanitation, and crowd flow of each compartment ensured the event progressed seamlessly. When TOI visited these compartments on Saturday, each appeared to function as a self-contained operational unit within the broader event setup. Staffing was both hierarchical and cross-functional, designed to facilitate smooth service delivery and participant engagement. A key highlight was the integration of the health workforce, with one ANM and one ASHA worker assigned to each compartment (covering approximately 1,000 participants). Meanwhile, the pyramid-shaped supervisory structure established a clear vertical chain of command. At the apex stood the minister, with IAS officers serving as stretch in-charges, followed by deputy collectors acting as sector in-charges. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Pelajari Undo Tahsildars oversaw blocks of five compartments each. Beneath each compartment were focal in-charges for water, sanitation, and medical services. In all, food and other arrangements were made for five lakh people, allowing for additional participants to join at the last minute. Two 10-bed hospitals were established at RK beach and one at the Andhra University grounds. Moreover, six 5-bed hospitals were arranged, strategically located at intervals of every five kilometres, alongside the deployment of 70 ambulances. Advanced technology and control room infrastructure were utilised for transportation, logistics, crowd monitoring, and real-time coordination. This framework enabled decentralised execution while preserving centralised accountability. Contrary to apprehensions of traffic congestion and chaos – especially before and after such a high-footfall event - pre-designated parking zones, restrictions on private vehicles, and disciplined crowd control measures significantly contributed to its smooth conduct. A large number of security personnel were deployed for crowd and traffic management. Even at non-focal points, a visible police presence maintained order. Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, along with several ministers, participated in a series of high-level review meetings throughout the past month. They were present at the venues almost daily in the lead-up to the event, including a trial run conducted two days earlier. The chief minister also visited the main event site opposite RK beach to inspect various aspects of logistics, civic services, safety protocols, and emergency medical readiness. Speaking to the media after the event, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu said that despite drawing over three lakh participants, the event concluded without a single adverse incident. "Technology was leveraged to great effect. Tracking was monitored continuously from the control rooms. Interestingly, we received no complaints from anyone. A notable highlight of the event was the use of a QR code-based participant tracking system, which yielded highly accurate attendance data and set a new benchmark for public events," he said. Dr T Venkateswara Rao, a noted paediatrician from MVP Colony in Visakhapatnam, said that the event fostered a sense of community spirit and heightened public health awareness. "The huge voluntary turnout by the public is evidence of this. Proper planning and execution enabled the event to proceed smoothly and efficiently," he observed. Given the significance of the Prime Minister's participation, the state govt constituted an organising committee about a month ago comprising several ministers, including IT minister Nara Lokesh, along with senior officials.
