Bengals, Trey Hendrickson drama reports divided on details
"I believe if the Bengals were gonna trade Trey Hendrickson it would have happened already..
I understand why he's upset because he deserves more money..
I believe they're gonna give it to him but they haven't struck a deal yet" ~ @RapSheet #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/7YfJf1pFzJ — Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) May 12, 2025
The saga between Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati Bengals is a very public war of words right now.
Said war takes different routes to going public, too.
The latest horrible-sounding update came from ESPN's Adam Schefter, who took the scathing message from Hendrickson himself and shared it with the world.
In that message, Hendrickson and his reps accused the Bengals of zero communication from the team at all since the draft.
But NFL Network's Ian Rapoport took to Pat McAfee's show not long after to clarify that there has been communication between Hendrickson and the team -- just not contract communication:
RELATED: Bengals, Trey Hendrickson contract saga gets another update
It's all rather silly noise in the middle of May right now, but Hendrickson kicked it off by passing a message to reporters.
A very rough translation of the saga is simple: The Bengals, who have said they want to get Hendrickson a raise, aren't moving quick enough for his liking, which is perfectly in character. There's no actual deadline for an extension to happen and after granting his reps permission to seek a trade, the team is sort of calling his bluff and willing to move things at their preferred pace.
Hence, the latest round of chaos. It would still be wise to expect some sort of actual new development near the start of training camp.

RELATED: Bengals, Shemar Stewart nuclear option includes 2026 NFL draft route The sudden appearance of Hendrickson in the tri-state area doesn't mean he and the team are about to put ink to paper on a long-term contract extension. But the fact he's training ahead of camp as normal before the calendar even turns to July? It's a pretty good sign…especially when the latest report said the Bengals and Hendrickson have started talking about a contract again. Bengals fans can be forgiven for taking this as a good sign. Hendrickson used up the last of his very public leverage in the media recently and neither party wants him to miss training camp days, bringing the distraction into the critical stretch before the regular season. The epic playoff run for the Indiana Pacers came crashing down in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. But the playoff run that the team went on was inspiring, and not all should be lost from this. Many around the NBA have marveled at the Pacers' opportunity, and it was special to watch. The team may not have won the title, but they won the hearts of many around the game. Former NBA center and ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins appeared on The Pat McAfee Show to discuss the outcome of the game. Despite the loss in the NBA Finals, Perkins was still proud of the playoff run for Indiana. "Major props to the Indiana Pacers organization and their fanbase, Game 6, my god, that was Indiana Pacers are not losers, they still had one of the best runs in NBA history. Although they didn't complete the mission, for them to be the underdog in this playoff run and what they did, knocking off top doing it the right way."
