Finalists announced for Greenwood School District Superintendent
GREENWOOD, S.C. (WSPA) – The 50th School District in Greenwood County have announced the three finalists for their superintendent position.
Here are the finalists:
Sherri Forest
Sherri Forest initially served as Chief Academic Officer and Executive Director to the Superintendent for Atlanta Public Schools. She received her degree in Special Education from Argosy University, and her Master of Education and Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Florida. Forest has previously served as as a School Effectiveness Specialist with the Georgia Department of Education, Director of Continuous Improvement and Program Director for School Support and Turnaround for Atlanta Public Schools. Forest also previously held the position of Regional Associate Executive Director for the Florida Department of Education Region IV.
Shane Goodwin
Shane Goodwin earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Arts in Teaching from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, as well as a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Winthrop University. Goodwin is currently completing his Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership from Shenandoah University. He currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Administration for the Frederick County Public Schools in Winchester, Virginia. Goodwin has served multiple school district in Virginia, including serving as Principal and Assistant Principal in Front Royal. Goodwin has also served as Principal of Ebinport Elementary and Sullivan Middle in Rock Hill.
Terrance Sanders
Terrance Sanders is a South Carolina native, and currently serves as the Chief Academic Officer and Deputy Superintendent for the the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District in San Marcos, Texas. Sanders holds a Bachelor of Science from Clemson University, a Master'sdegree from Winthrop University, and a Doctorate in Education from the University ofSouthern Mississippi. Sanders has served in various roles in education, with more than 20 years of experience in the field.
The finalists will be visiting the district on May 29 to tour schools and meet with staff. A Community Meet and Greet is planned to be held at the Genesis Education Center at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to allow parents, staff, and community members an opportunity to meet with the finalists.

Spartanburg Co. shares new Helene recovery data
SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Spartanburg County Emergency Management is asking residents what the community needs to recover from Hurricane Helene. Emergency Management shared in a media release that newly updated Helene data revealed many members of the community still have a lot of unmet needs. Data from the agency revealed that, as of June 2025, more than 500 properties in Spartanburg County have still not recovered from Helene. These unmet needs can range from tree damage to shorted HVAC systems, but data further shows that a majority of community needs focus on debris assistance and home damage. A majority of people seeking aid are also over the age of 65. 'At this time, there are more unmet needs than resources,' said Emergency Management. To help address community needs, Emergency Management established a new Long Term Recovery Group that is dedicated to Helene Recovery. The group has officially partnered with the Spartanburg County Foundation, United Way and others. For anyone still requiring assistance from Hurricane Helene, Emergency Management asked that they provide information regarding their needs. Spartanburg residents can find the link to share their needs here. Emergency Management asks county members to donate or volunteer with a local non-profit, such as Rebuilding Together, Eight Days of Hope, Team Rubicon and more, if in a well enough position to assist their community. Greenville mayor talks 10-story ‘Honor Tower' construction in Unity Park
GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – Construction continues on a 10-story tower Greenville city leaders said will honor those who serve while bringing the community together. Greenville mayor Knox White told 7NEWS he envisions the Honor Tower in Unity Park as a gathering place for ceremonies honoring veterans and first responders. 'After Hurricane Helene and everything else we've all been through, I think we understand even better than ever before how important our first responders are, and it's a great way to honor them,' White said. White said the 10-story Thomas and Vivian Wong Honor Tower not only pays homage to men and women in uniform, but also highlights the unique history of the surrounding neighborhood. 'Unity Park has a very compelling story behind it. It was the site of a segregated park system, a black park and a white park,' White also said. The base of the tower features a plaza city leaders said can hold 200 people. White added visitors will be able to walk or take an elevator to the 10th floor for a small fee. 'It'll be one of the iconic features of our city. Just like the Liberty Bridge, we used a world renown architect and designer for the honor tower, Paul Endres, he's done great work,' White explained. White said the tower is a result of around $10 million in private and public partnerships. The aim is to boost appreciation for the communities and cultures that call Greenville home, according to White. 'It's really meant to be experienced on the outside as well as on top. A beautiful view on top, but it's a beautiful piece of art, and architecture that'll be a real crowning achievement for Unity Park,' White went on to say.
