Arctic Trucks has pulled the wrappings off its Land Cruiser 250/Prado AT37 build and it's wonderfully understated. After all, these days we're constantly inundated with off-road mods that are in-your-face, from 'Angry Eyes' Jeep grilles to bumpers that look like they belong on an armored military vehicle. If you're familiar with AT, then that's really not surprising. Founded back in 1990, the company was a special vehicles division on Toyota but now operates independently. From the beginning it's focused on no-nonsense off-road modifications instead of catering to the mall crawler crowd that wants more flash than substance.
For anyone wanting to impress while in line at Starbucks, this build will be completely boring. But for those who want a vehicle that's seriously good at off-roading, especially in incredibly remote and rugged areas of the world, this build could be the ticket.
There are many subtle mods on the rig. Your eyes aren't playing tricks on you, the Land Cruiser has a wider track and fender flares. The frame, body, and drivetrain are all modified to increase ground clearance while keeping the center of gravity low.
Also included is a bespoke two-way adjustable suspension system designed by Arctic Trucks with 'Dakar-winning specialists' providing input. Wheel travel is improved and the suspension provides a modest 1.5 inches of lift, so nothing too crazy. But the construction sounds rather stout, which is what matters most on the trail.
Buyers get to choose between 37-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A K03 or Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 tires. You'll note the AT Heritage wheels have an understated look that's a little bit of a throwback to simpler times, which pairs well with the Land Cruiser's retro-inspired styling.
Finally, AT highlights the 2-inch multifunction receiver hitch adventurers can use for towing, recoveries, or any number of accessories while getting out into the great outdoors.
According to Arctic Trucks, the AT37 not only can take on a variety of off-road conditions from rocks to snow, it's supposed to handle quite well in daily on-pavement driving. While some people can afford to have a weekend toy, for many hobbyists these days their off-roader has to do double duty as a commuter vehicle.

Tested at Fort Bragg, new military troop vehicle in production in North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — An evolved version of the iconic U.S. military's Jeep was tested in North Carolina at Fort Bragg and is now in production in North Carolina near Charlotte. The 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg helped test and provide feedback as the vehicle was developed. The item has a name that's much longer than 'Jeep' — the Infantry Squad Vehicle, which has now been in the field for a couple of years. It's designed to quickly move up to nine soldiers and their gear over rough terrain — but not as a fighting vehicle because it has no armor, like a Jeep. The U.S. Army says the ISV, officially the M1301, is transported easily by helicopters or other aircraft during air assault and airborne assault missions. The first unit equipped with the ISV was the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. The ISV is made from the road-legal Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 midsize truck but has a doorless design, steel and aluminum body panels, and a rollover bar. Initially, the U.S. Army awarded $214 million for just under 650 vehicles to GM Defense/Ricardo Defense in June 2020. One key aspect of the vehicle is that 90 percent of the parts are commercial off-the-shelf items, which experts say cuts down on costs, stocking spare parts and time needed to fabricate parts. The overall Amy requirement is for 2,593 ISVs, which are built in Mooresville by Hendrick Motorsports and then delivered to the military from a GM center about 20 miles away in Cabarrus County. The GM center, located in Concord, is a 75,000-square-foot facility that was built just for ISV production. Of the total contract, 649 are planned for delivery by this year to 11 infantry brigade combat teams. So far, foreign governments have shown an interest in the ISV, with Canada planning to buy 90 and possibly another 240, according to GM. While the ISV is not armored, troops said its 5,000-pound light weight, low profile and speed are assets. 'When expecting an ambush, we used speed to blow through and return fire,' Pfc. Caden Wilhelm told military officials about testing at Fort Bragg. The 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions used the ISV to help Hurricane Helene victims in western North Carolina last year. Aussie's startling find hidden in 4WD after driving home from the beach

An Aussie has made a startling find hidden inside their four-wheel-drive after a 'tense' drive home from the beach. After spending the day lapping up the sun and ocean waves, the Broome resident packed up their Land Cruiser and headed home. However, they soon realised they were not alone, with a large intruder also deciding to join them on the journey. Moments after popping the car's bonnet, the driver was greeted by a 1.8 metre mulga — Australia's largest venomous snake — that had climbed up a front wheel and tucked itself inside. Photos posted online by local snake catcher Aidan Mitchell, who was called out to help retrieve the 'beauty', show the native animal poking its head out an opening in the bonnet, which he said provide 'good hiding spots'. 'It was a tense drive home for someone,' he said. Mitchell detailed the 'challenging and unconventional catch' to ABC Radio, revealing the owner of the vehicle left it under a carport for a few days before hiring someone to drag the 4WD into the driveway using a forklift. 'Nobody was keen to get inside the vehicle and drive it. Understandably,' he said, adding the snake 'wouldn't have known where it was'. 'It was just climbing up a thing and that's where it made itself comfortable for the time.' 🏕️ Couple's 'surprisingly rare' 2kg find hidden inside 4WD: 'Biggest I've seen' 🐍 Unexpected intruder bursts through shed roof as homeowner watches TV 🚘 Deadly find on roadside in iconic Aussie suburb sparks wild theory Mitchell said his strategy was to 'just keep the snake moving' until it was in position where he could easily 'get a hold of it'. 'It was very tricky, but every call is a little bit different, so it just requires a bit of a bit of good judgment and resourcefulness. I thought a snake under a bonnet, yeah, we've got to be pretty careful with that,' he told ABC Radio. 'It was identified as a mulga, so it's a whole element of safety and consideration of a venomous reptile like that, to do it gently for the snake itself and safely for people around.' Over an hour later, the snake finally shifted into an accessible position and was removed and relocated. Although the circumstances were unusual, Mitchell said it's not the first time he's found a snake seeking shelter in a car's engine bay. 'I had to dismantle a brand new Land Cruiser one time — the internals — to find a tiny little tree snake. It was about a foot-long [and] blended in with all the wires and everything. So that was interesting.' The snake catcher urged anyone who does come across a snake in their car or home to back away carefully, call a professional for help and keep an eye on it. 'We're snake catchers, not snake finders. If people turn their back and run away, and I arrive there, and they don't know where it is — I'm not looking.' Late last year, a travelling couple were stunned to find a 2kg mulga snake in their 4WD's engine bay after setting up camp in South Australia. Do you have a story tip? I'm a Mechanic: 4 High-Maintenance American-Made Cars That Will Drain Your Wallet

When you buy a car made in the U.S., you're often expecting reliability, performance and value. However, not all American-made vehicles live up to that promise, especially when it comes to long-term maintenance. Read Next: Explore More: GOBankingRates spoke to Alan Gelfand, mechanic and owner of German Car Depot, who shared four American-made cars that cost many people thousands in repairs. The Cadillac CTS is a luxury car on the outside, but under the hood, it's a different story. The 'CTS model experiences three main issues that raise its repair costs: timing chain problems, electrical system failures and transmission system issues,' Gelfand said Most of these repairs could cost anywhere between $1,200 and $3,500-plus, depending on the nature of the problem. And since Cadillac is a luxury car, replacement parts and labor can be on the pricier side. Check Out: The 2011-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is another high-maintenance American-made car Gelfand has noticed. 'The Jeeps are notorious in the automotive repair world for having a plethora of issues,' Gelfand said. 'These Grand Cherokees in particular experience transmission failures together with electrical problems that affect the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) to trigger various electronic system breakdowns.' The Ford Explorer's most expensive problem often comes from the water pump, located within the engine's timing cover. 'Since the pump is located inside the timing cover, it can cause severe engine damage,' Gelfand said. The water pump issue, alongside transmission issues and power steering problems, can lead to pricey repairs between $1,500 and $5,000 in some cases. High-performance vehicles like the Chevrolet Camaro SS and ZL1 trims deliver thrilling driving experiences, but this comes with a cost. These high-performance cars can experience accelerated wear due to the extreme stresses of a high-horsepower operation, even during normal driving conditions. Frequent repairs include 'suspension overhauls, clutch replacements and cooling system issues,' with average repair bills ranging between $1,000 and $4,500-plus, Gelfand said.
