Seven killed in Arunachal landslide

Itanagar, May 31 (UNI) Seven people died in a landslide on National Highway-13 between Bana and Seppa in Arunachal Pradesh's East Kameng district late Friday night amid heavy rains, leading to shock and major traffic disruption in the region.
Sources said a vehicle carrying seven people was swept away by a massive landslide on the Bana-Seppa stretch of NH-13 and plunged into a deep gorge. The vehicle was traveling towards Seppa when the rain-triggered landslide struck it.
Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister and local MLA Mama Natung has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in his Assembly constituency.
In a message, Natung extended his condolences to the bereaved families, stating: 'It's very painful to hear about the tragic loss of seven lives in my Assembly constituency. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.'
The Minister urged citizens to remain cautious during the monsoon season and avoid travel during nights, especially in landslide-prone areas.
'I request everyone to remain vigilant and avoid traveling at night during the monsoon season. My thoughts and prayers are with the affected families. Om Shanti Shanti,' Natung added.
Authorities have launched rescue and clearance operations at the site, while local administration has urged citizens to exercise caution and restrict travel during extreme weather conditions.
Meanwhile, sources said that rescue teams have recovered all seven bodies, but their identities are yet to be established.
The northeastern state has been experiencing incessant rains since Thursday.

Bhopal, Jun 20 (UNI) The southwest monsoon has now covered all districts of Madhya Pradesh, bringing cloudy skies and rain to the entire state, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday. The monsoon entered the state a few days earlier than usual, specifically in the Burhanpur and adjoining districts, and has now spread across the state, the IMD bulletin read. Rainfall was recorded at various places in Bhopal, Rewa, Jabalpur, and Sagar divisions, with some areas in Narmadapuram and Ujjain divisions receiving more widespread showers during the past 24 hours. The Chambal, Gwalior, and Shahdol divisions also experienced significant rainfall, while other divisions remained relatively dry. The onset of the monsoon has led to a drop in day and night temperatures by 3-5 degrees Celsius. Rainfall was recorded in several areas, including Kathiwada, Alirajpur, Ater, Pansemal, Tirla, Umrwan, Jobat, Gwalior, Morena, Pithampur, and others. IMD has forecast cloudy skies with rain at many places in several districts, including Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Dhar, Indore, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dewas, Shajapur, Agar, Datia, and others, over the next 24 hours. A red alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in Alirajpur, Jhabua, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Anuppur, Shahdol, Umaria, Dindori, and Sagar districts, with strong winds expected in these areas, the IMD said. Monsoon set to hit Himachal in next 2-3 days

Shimla, June 19 (UNI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance over parts of Himachal Pradesh within the next two to three days. A wet spell is expected to follow from June 20 to 25, bringing respite from the prevailing heat in the region. Thick, black clouds have already begun hovering over the state, signalling the imminent arrival of monsoon. According to IMD, conditions are favourable for the further advance of monsoon over the remaining parts of North Arabian Sea, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, and parts of Punjab and Haryana over the next few days. Rainfall was recorded at several stations, with Sangrah receiving the highest at 20.0 mm, followed by Pachhad (7.4 mm), Sundernagar (5.8 mm), Dharamshala (4.0 mm), and Kasauli and Bajaura (3.0 mm each). Other locations like Jot, Chamba, Nichar, Sangla, Kufri, and Kalpa also reported light rains. No snowfall was reported across the state. Maximum temperatures remained below normal across most stations. The highest temperature in the state was recorded at Una (38.0 degree Celsius), while Shimla stood at a mild 24.0 degree C, and Kufri was cooler at 20.2 degree C. The average deviation in maximum temperature across stations was 1.9 degree C, suggesting a noticeable cooling trend ahead of monsoon arrival. The state government and disaster management authorities are on alert, especially in monsoon-sensitive areas prone to landslides and flash floods. UNI ML SS
