Lavrov Praises OANA's Role In Unbiased Coverage Of International Events

ST. PETERSBURG (Russia), June 20 (Bernama-TASS) -- The Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) plays a key role in ensuring unbiased and objective coverage of international events, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said. The message was delivered in a video address to participants of the plenary session of the organisation's 19th General Assembly, hosted by TASS agency. "For many years, the organisation – the world's largest association of news agencies – has facilitated the exchange of experience among media outlets from countries across Eurasia, the Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East. bootstrap slideshow 'It contributes to the objective and impartial reporting of key global developments, promotes the values and standards of honest journalism, and defends the professional rights of media workers without bias or discrimination. 'Such efforts, which genuinely help improve the global information environment, deserve both respect and support," Lavrov emphasised. "We will discuss a broad range of issues relevant to the journalistic community - from combating fake news and disinformation to integrating artificial intelligence technologies into our work," Lavrov said. Telangana local body elections: Grassroots mobilisation a concern for BJP

HYDERABAD: As Telangana gears up for local body elections, the BJP is bracing for a litmus test, with its performance likely to set the tone for the next Assembly polls. While the party aims to consolidate its position in the state, insiders reveal significant challenges in converting its recent electoral gains into a traditional vote bank. The ruling Congress is leaving no stone unturned to secure maximum seats in the local body polls, leveraging its welfare schemes such as Indiramma houses, quality PDS rice, Rajiv Yuva Vikas loans and unrestricted Rythu Bharosa payments. Meanwhile, the BRS, which has a strong rural base and won 38 Assembly seats in the last elections, remains a formidable opponent. Despite the hurdles, BJP leaders point to their recent successes — winning eight Assembly and eight Lok Sabha seats, mostly from rural segments — as a sign of growing influence. This apart, its victory in two MLC seats — graduates and teachers segments — has bolstered confidence that educated voters and younger generations are leaning towards the saffron party.

Dedicated to realise PM Modi's vision of Viksit Odisha, says CM Mohan Charan Majhi

This afternoon, the beloved prime minister of the country, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, arrives in Odisha. On behalf of four-and-half crore Odias, I extend a heartfelt welcome to him on this sacred land of Lord Jagannath. This visit holds a special significance - Modi Ji completes 11 years of dedicated service as the prime minister of India, while I complete my first year as the chief minister of Odisha. In the past year alone, Modi Ji has visited Odisha five times. With today's visit, it becomes his sixth visit since the formation of the double-engine government in the state. Remarkably, Prime Minister Modi has visited Odisha more times than the total visits of all previous prime ministers combined. His frequent visit to Odisha signifies his unique sense of devotion to Lord Jagannath and love for Odisha. During the last one year, I have not only been fortunate to meet him on several occasions, but also experienced his vision for the accelerated economic growth of Odisha. Being involved in social and political activities since my childhood, my concern always remains to make people's lives qualitative, happy and prosperous. I tried to reflect people's aspirations in various capacities – as an RSS member, a teacher in the Saraswati Shishu Mandir, a sarpanch, an MLA and an Opposition leader in the state Assembly. In the two-and-half decades, since I came to the Assembly as an MLA in 2000 and became chief minister in 2024, I have dedicated myself to public service by keeping my personal life aside. Now, I bear the responsibility of leading Odisha's development. My journey of over three decades - built on experience, knowledge, and unwavering commitment to public welfare - has shaped my vision. Above all, the BJP's development model and prime minister's leadership have inspired me with new resolutions. On this path, I am not alone - 4.5 crore Odias walk with me. Modi Ji's governance model - Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas - guides our mission. Today, in the gracious presence of Modi Ji, discussion is being held on the development activities undertaken in Odisha in last one year and the Vision 2036 and 2047. I take this opportunity to reiterate our resolve to facilitate that the benefits of development reach the common Odia families, especially women, farmers, youth and the poor, by making them successful in a time-bound manner.

Telugu states should use Godavari water together

Vijayawada: Responding to Telangana's objection over the Banakacharla project, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu suggested that both Telugu states should use Godavari waters together, especially the waters that would otherwise flow into the sea. Addressing the media here, he said: 'Both states are already using Godavari water. Apart from Polavaram, other projects haven't received formal approval. As per the AP Reorganisation Act, Polavaram is under construction. So, we are transferring water to another basin from the last reaches of the Godavari stream'. He recalled previous disputes between officials of both states over the Krishna Barrage and how they were resolved through discussions with the Governor. 'It's not beneficial to fight over the limited Krishna waters. Let us continue with existing project-wise allocations until the new tribunal finalizes fresh allocations. I started many projects in united Andhra Pradesh, including Devadula and Kalwakurthy. We fought in the Assembly over Yellampalli. I never objected to Kaleshwaram.' He questioned why there should be disputes over water usage that would otherwise flow into the ocean. 'If legal clarity is required, we can discuss it with the Centre. Creating conflict over such usage is unreasonable. No one benefits from water disputes between the two states - it only misleads the public. There is no need for conflict. Telangana can build the projects and use the water—who's stopping it?', he pointed out. The Chief Minister reiterated that his vision is for both Telugu states to emerge as number one.

Pawan hopes AP will be ‘address for development'

Vijayawada: Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Thursday released a comprehensive progress report marking one year since assuming his responsibilities, stating, 'Transparency and accountability must exist in politics and government. It is my moral responsibility to present the development and achievements accomplished by the departments under my purview over the past year.' Pawan, who holds portfolios including panchayat raj, rural development, rural water supply, environment, forest, and science and technology, completed one year in office on Thursday. Along with the report, he issued a letter addressed to the people of Andhra Pradesh, in which he thanked the people for 'liberating the state' from the shackles of servitude. Pawan asserted that from 2019 to 2024, the state suffered under a 'dictatorial rule,' hindering development, eroding law and order, casting shadows over the future of youth, and compromising women's safety. He noted that during this period, the state capital's construction remained stagnant, with 'not a single brick moved. To rescue the state and restore democratic governance, he said, the NDA alliance, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and N Chandrababu Naidu, and with the collective support of the people, achieved a historic victory, securing 164 Assembly seats with a 94 per cent strike rate. He added that the alliance government is diligently working day and night to fulfill promises made to the people and steer the state back towards development. In just one year, the government has achieved progress unseen in the last five years, instilling confidence not only among the public but also among investors. He said that the Central government is now providing full support, witnessing the ongoing development and good governance in the state. This cooperation, he said, is propelling Andhra Pradesh towards comprehensive development in all sectors, aiming to achieve 'Swarnandhra 2047'. He expressed hope that the public would closely examine the comprehensive report on development activities undertaken by the panchayat raj, rural development, rural water supply, environment, forest, and science and technology departments, recognising the NDA government's progress and its commitment to fulfilling the trust placed in them. Pawan Kalyan revealed that the government has successfully instilled confidence in investors considering setting up businesses in the state, adding that the central government is also strongly supporting development initiatives. He attributed the state's progress to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's 'experience and visionary leadership.' The Deputy Chief Minister expressed confidence that in the next four years, Andhra Pradesh will be transformed into an 'address for development.'
