Techie's ‘remote job in India or relocate to Vietnam' dilemma splits Internet

India Today5 days ago

A 25-year-old techie asked Reddit users to help them choose between a remote job in India and a higher-paying role in Vietnam, and unsurprisingly, the internet was quick to respond. In a now-viral Reddit post, the techie asked for help deciding between two job offers: one based in India, the other in Vietnam. They broke down the details clearly, saying, 'Please help me make the final call between these 2 offers: Rs 19 LPA India - fully remote. 1 lakh joining bonus. Flexible work timings. Startup. No variable.'advertisement
The second offer came with a twist. 'Rs 25 LPA Vietnam – first 6 months remote (first 3 months performance review + 3 months visa/work permit documentation). \~\$2.5k/month. 13-month salary bonus (variable). Office in HCMC / Saigon,' they said. They further mentioned being vegetarians and comfortable cooking for themselves, adding, 'Please help me decide which one to pick. Thanks.'In an edit, they clarified: 'I am 25 years old, I have 4 yoe [years of experience, I make Cloud Applications on SAP BTP. In Vietnam, my Rs 25 LPA will be subjected to a flat 20% tax.'Take a look at the post here: Social media users were quick to dive in with their takes, some practical, some personal, and some philosophical. One of the users made a compelling point about stepping out of one's comfort zone, saying, 'There are more language barriers within India than between India and Vietnam Just because a barrier exists doesn't mean you stay put. Barriers are meant to be overcome.'advertisementAnother user encouraged them to take the international opportunity: 'It's a once-in-a-lifetime chance. The skillset and world view I've seen in Vietnamese creators online is something I wish I had. India can sometimes feel too familiar, even when you move cities.'Several others agreed that Vietnam made better financial sense. '25 lakhs in Vietnam would feel like 30 in India. You could easily visit home twice a year, too,' a user said. Someone drew attention to the professional contrast, writing, 'You have to choose whether you want to be a big fish in a small pond or a small fish in an ocean. Tech-wise, Vietnam is still growing, but that leaves space to make an impact. India's scene is ahead but saturated.'A particular user pointed out the quality-of-life perks when they said, 'Vietnam is cheaper to live in than India. And the international exposure? Definitely a plus. Surprised so many people are still leaning towards India.'While Reddit couldn't arrive at a unanimous answer, it offered the techie a global perspective, and possibly a nudge towards the road less taken.Must Watch

'Shirt tucked, ribbon in hair': Bizarre dress code in job offer letter sparks discussion; netizens say ‘Welcome back to school'

In a bizarre incident, a purported offer letter from an Indian organisation highlighting a rigid dress code has surfaced on Reddit, which has gained massive attention from netizens. The strange dress code left social media users amused and stunned at the same time. On Monday, a post surfaced on the social media platform called Reddit, where a user under the name @r/IndianWorkplace shared a post with a title saying, "My friend got an offer letter, and we were going through it, and just wow, what does tucking in shirts or pinning shawls even have to do with the work people do?" As soon as the post surfaced on the internet, it quickly grabbed eyeballs and went viral. 'Dress code and grooming': What are the guidelines for men and women? The user shared an offer letter, allegedly for a developer position with a monthly salary of Rs 12,000, that contained a section called "Dress Code and Grooming" that outlined strict clothing requirements for men and women. For men, formal wear and tucked-in shirts are mandatory at all times, with a ban on T-shirts. However, jeans are allowed, but only if they are paired with a tucked-in shirt. While for the beard, it is mentioned that it should be well-trimmed and groomed. The policy is particularly strict for women, permitting only kurtas and churidars paired with shawls that must be 'properly pinned.' Additionally, it requires all women to tie their hair and secure it with a ribbon, drawing comparisons to school uniforms. The screenshot read, "Loose/open hair is not allowed. Hair should be tied with a ribbon and maintained neatly. Attire must always be neat, modest, and appropriate." Netizens react to the bizarre dress code in office As soon as the post surfaced on social media, it quickly grabbed eyeballs, and one said, "It's always the low-salary ones." While another said, "School mei bhi itna strict nhi hote the." One wrote, "looks like the company don't care about the work." "Welcome back to school they forgot me mention no running in the corridor and pin drop silence😁😁😂" "Indian workplaces are operated like schools with headmasters. another thing i dont like is for women formals means atlest 4-5 different types of clothes including pant shirt, salwar kurta, saadi, skirts etc. even foot wear includes shoes, sandals etc. But for men its only pant shirt (that too full sleeve in indian weather), and closed shoes (which make feet sweat)," another added.

‘I Can't Stay Silent Anymore': Ex-Zepto Employee Blows Whistle On Food Safety Violations

Last Updated: Zepto has been stirring controversy over allegations of food safety violations and mistreatment of delivery partners. Once hailed as a rising star in India's quick commerce sector, Zepto is now facing serious scrutiny over food safety violations. Multiple reports have emerged of rotten groceries being delivered and unsanitary warehouse conditions, prompting the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration to suspend the company's license. Amid the growing controversy, a former Zepto employee has come forward, claiming to expose the 'ugly truth" behind the company's working process, further fueling concerns about its operations and commitment to consumer safety. 'I worked at Zepto for 3 years—and I can't stay silent anymore," a former employee wrote in a now-viral post. 'Once, a customer ordered Greek yoghurt. We had only three left—all expired. Still, our store in-charge said, 'Give it anyway.'" 'People think Zepto is hygienic. It's not. The reality is disgusting. Every monsoon, our Pune store floods with gutter water—right where your groceries are packed. We've worked 9+ hours standing in that dirty water without shoes. Many of us fell sick, but no one got medical compensation. Fruits and vegetables come in damaged and rotting—we're still told to pack and deliver them. Expired products are sent without hesitation," the individual wrote in a Reddit post. The employee strongly asserted that Zepto's operations are not just unhygienic but also unethical, adding that the customers deserve to know the truth. The post went quickly viral, sparking reactions from users. One wrote, 'Blinkit and Bigbasket are way better than shady sites; I don't know why customers order from them," while another added, 'Eggs are always spoiled when ordered online." One of the users shared his own experience with online grocery orders, stating how the delivery partner did not arrive as expected and instead came with the order the next morning. 'These apps were supposed to make our lives easier, but they're doing the opposite. Delayed orders, poor customer support, and no accountability. I've had enough; I've deleted them all," the comment continued. Earlier this month, the Maharashtra FDA suspended the food business license of Zepto in Mumbai's Dharavi, citing non-compliance with food safety standards. The decision was taken after a raid at a Zepto facility when the authorities found fungal growth on food items, inadequate cold storage, unhygienic surroundings and unexpired stock. First Published:

VinFast Showcases VF 7 and VF 6 Electric SUVs Across Top Shopping Malls in India

New Delhi – Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has kicked off a nationwide showcase of its premium electric SUVs – VF 7 and VF 6 — at major shopping malls across 11 cities in India. The initiative began on June 21, offering Indian consumers their first close-up experience of the EVs outside an expo setting. The VF 7 and VF 6 were first introduced to India at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year and garnered significant attention. Now, in a move to bring the vehicles closer to customers, VinFast is exhibiting them at high-footfall malls in cities like Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kochi, Gurugram, Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada. These displays aim to give visitors a chance to explore the elegant design, advanced technology, and premium features of both electric SUVs — from their V-shaped LED light signature and panoramic sunroof to their ADAS suite and driver-centric digital cockpit with large touchscreens. Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, said, 'Following the overwhelming response at the Bharat Mobility Expo, we're excited to bring the VF 7 and VF 6 closer to Indian consumers. These showcases reflect our commitment to India's EV future and offer a chance for customers to interact with our brand firsthand.' VinFast's broader India strategy includes building an EV manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, establishing a wide dealership network, and enhancing after-sales support via partners like Global Assure. The VF 7, inspired by 'Asymmetric Aerospace,' and the VF 6, based on 'Dualities in Nature,' are designed to appeal to India's young, eco-conscious buyers seeking feature-rich, stylish, and sustainable mobility. VinFast's mall showcases not only highlight its product portfolio but also reinforce the company's vision of creating a holistic electric mobility ecosystem tailored for India.
