Shokz OpenFit 2 review: Open-ear design is a breath of fresh air for your ears
Open-ear headphones have evolved significantly from their early bone-conduction predecessors, offering enhanced comfort, improved sound quality, and a more immersive overall listening experience without compromising situational awareness. The Shokz OpenFit 2 produce a rich sound through air conduction while keeping your ears open to the world. I've spent the past couple of weeks living, cycling, and even DIYing with them, and they've earned a spot in my everyday carry.
Design
Shokz has refined its open-ear approach with the OpenFit 2. The curved ear hook design blends soft lines with robust construction. Each earbud weighs just 9.4g, and despite their lightweight feel, they don't skimp on build quality. A flexible nickel-titanium alloy provides a snug yet gentle grip, while the matte finish adds a premium touch.
The magnetic pogo-pin charging connectors snap neatly into the included case, which is relatively compact and practical. It's not flashy, but it's functional, with a USB-C port and clearly labelled LED indicators. The understated design feels thoughtfully considered, clearly made for users who prefer substance over style.
Comfort and fit
Using UltraSoft Silicone 2.0 and an open-ear design, the buds sit just outside your ear canal, delivering audio without the in-ear pressure typically associated with traditional earbuds. I wore them for hours on end, at my computer, cycling, and even while doing house chores, and never once felt discomfort or fatigue.
They don't budge either. Whether I was walking or cycling, they stayed put with zero slippage.
Features
The OpenFit 2 features IP55 water and dust resistance, ideal for sweaty workouts or unexpected drizzle. The headphones feature multi-point Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, allowing you to switch effortlessly between devices, such as your phone and laptop. I found this especially useful for listening to music on my MacBook Pro while seamlessly taking calls on my phone without needing to reconnect manually.
The physical button controls are refreshingly reliable, with no accidental taps or misfires. Each button has a satisfying, positive click, making them easy and reassuring to use. You can customise them via the Shokz app, which also offers EQ controls, firmware updates, and a 'Find My Earbuds' option. Unlike many rivals, there is no mandatory account registration required to use the app.
A 10-minute quick charge gives around two hours of use. Full charge yields up to 11 hours, with a total of 48 hours from the case.
Performance
Pairing is instant, connection is rock-solid, and latency is negligible when watching video content. The OpenFit 2 handles everything from podcasts to phone calls with clarity, thanks to dual microphones and effective noise reduction.
Ambient awareness remains high, allowing me to hear traffic and conversations around me, a significant safety advantage when cycling or engaging in other outdoor activities. Of course, if you prefer listening to music at higher volumes, it can reduce your ability to hear what's going on around you.
Sound quality
I'll admit I was sceptical about audio performance. Open-ear designs are typically lacking in bass and body. However, Shokz's OpenBass 2.0 algorithm, combined with a 17.3mm driver and a separate high-frequency unit, delivers a remarkably full-bodied experience.
Considering the open design, the bass is present, punchy, and well-controlled, even at lower volumes. The highs sparkle, vocals come through cleanly, and there's enough warmth to handle everything from acoustic folk to synth-heavy electronica. No, it won't replace your over-ear cans for audiophile sessions, but for an open-ear daily driver, it's superb.
Verdict
The Shokz OpenFit 2 are lightweight, secure, and sound far better than expected for an open-ear set. The all-day comfort, superb battery life, and strong ambient awareness make it a near-perfect choice for fitness-focused users and those who dislike in-ear designs.

Avoid danger & stay aware of surroundings while listening to music with smart design of Shokz OpenFit 2 wireless earbuds
EARBUDS are a great addition when commuting, going for a walk, a run, cycling or when you're working out in the gym. But if you are insert one into your ear canal and then venture onto the streets, you run the risk of not hearing the traffic around you. 2 Shokz OpenFit 2 earbuds feature clever open-ear tech. Credit: Shokz Electronics brand Shokz has just launched its new OpenFit 2 wireless earbuds that feature clever open-ear tech. And unlike traditional earbuds that isolate you from the environment around you, OpenFit's open-ear design allows you to stay in tune with the world around you while enjoying your music or listening to a podcast. They feature flexible ear hooks made from special ultra-soft silicone, and it provides a cushioning effect that gently hugs your ears. Their secure fit keeps the earbuds in place, but as they are not inserted fully into your ears, they don't suffer from heat build-up or sweat, making them perfect for prolonged wear. Read more in Tech And as your ear canal remains open you have full situational awareness while still enjoying your favourite music and calls. The OpenFit 2 uses Shokz DualBoost tech that delivers superior sound quality and houses nickel-titanium alloy two independent drivers. One driver processes low frequency and the other delivers high-frequency sounds. So unlike other earbuds that only have one driver that delivers the full frequency range, the Shokz DualBoost provides rich, crystal-clear sound, much like a proper set of speakers. Most read in The Irish Sun But that's not all, the OpenFit 2 also uses Shokz OpenBass 2.0 algorithm to deliver powerful and deep bass tones while still maintaining clarity in the higher frequency ranges. Another brilliant addition to the OpenFit 2 is physical buttons, so with a simple press, you can easily adjust the volume, skip tracks, answer calls, and manage a variety of other functions. BATTERY LIFE You get up to 11 hours of battery life with a single charge and up to 48 hours of total listening time with the charging case. It's very simple to charge, just connect the USB-C lead that comes in the box into a compatible charger, and you are all set. And a quick 10-minute charge delivers two hour of listening time. Ugreen 500W GaN review: Future-proof charging for laptops, phones, and more
Ugreen's new 500W 6-Port GaN charger is a one-stop solution for all your charging needs, including power-hungry laptops, tablets, phones, and, according to Ugreen, some e-bikes. I've spent a few weeks with this on my desk and for travel, and if you're the kind of person who travels with a laptop, a tablet, two phones and a drone, this charger is calling your name. Design The charger is a rectangular space grey block that wouldn't look out of place next to a Mac Studio. It's compact for what it offers (146 x 114.6 x 60.6mm), and while it's not pocketable, it sits discreetly on a desk. The matte finish resists fingerprints, and the rubber feet keep it anchored during use. This 500W charger is six chargers in one, combining impressive power with practical convenience. What makes it especially appealing is how much it helps reduce desk clutter. Instead of needing multiple chargers and tangled cables that take up space and power sockets, this all-in-one solution streamlines everything into a compact unit. It's ideal for a minimalist desk setup, keeping things tidy, efficient, and visually clean while freeing up additional power points for other gear. Ports galore The layout is straightforward, featuring five USB-C ports and one USB-A port. But the real headline? USB-C1 supports the PD3.1 standard, pushing a jaw-dropping 240W through a single port. Yes, that means it can charge a high-performance gaming laptop, or even certain e-bikes, from a USB port. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with any charging cable, and while I have a drawer full of them, not all cables are made equal. You shouldn't assume you'll get 100W of power if the cable doesn't support that level of power. I bought a Ugreen 240W cable to see if I could push close to the rated output, but unfortunately, I don't have any devices that require that much power. I also found the 240W port to be quite picky — some cables wouldn't charge from it at all, even though they worked fine with the other ports. The other USB-C ports each deliver up to 100W, which is ideal for charging everything from tablets to smaller laptops. The USB-A port caps out at 22.5W — still enough for fast-charging your headphones or legacy tech. I tested it with a MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Steam Deck, Asus Ally X, and a Sony camera battery charger, all running simultaneously. The MacBook had the biggest draw, with up to 140W from the 240W port, but other devices, such as the Ally X and several power banks, were able to achieve the rated 100W from the other ports. No hiccups or throttling as long as you use the correct cables. Smarter than your average brick The 500W charger features six embedded GaN chips, enabling 95% energy conversion and resulting in less heat and increased efficiency. The NTC temperature monitoring system checks thermal conditions 100 times a second, and it worked well in my real-world test. The charger stays cool under load, and the built-in orientation sensor, which reduces output when tipped over, is a clever safeguard against accidental mishaps. Ugreen clearly prioritised safety, too. With 11 protection protocols, from over-current to flame-retardant casing. It feels like using a product engineered for serious pros. All the smarts are on the inside, which is great, but I'd love it if the charger had a display showing real-time charging rates. I realise this would add to the cost and not everyone finds it necessary, but I really appreciate having that extra information. Verdict: Ugreen's 500W GaN charger is a compact, intelligent power hub for multi-device users. For anyone managing multiple high-demand devices, the Ugreen 500W GaN charger is a no-brainer. It's overkill for casual users, but a dream for power users, creators, and road warriors. While the 240W port isn't widely supported just yet, it's reassuring to know that you're future-proofed as more high-powered devices begin to adopt the standard. €200 Ugreen
