Drive against dengue prevention in Varanasi from today
Varanasi: A special campaign will be launched by health department in Varanasi on Friday to mark
National Dengue Day
, observed every year on May 16, to raise awareness about causes and prevention of the disease.
Chief medical officer Dr Sandeep Chaudhary said people will be educated about symptoms, prevention and treatment of dengue and encouraged to maintain cleanliness around their homes. This year's theme for National Dengue Day is 'Check, Clean, Cover: Steps to Defeat Dengue'.
The CMO said all superintendents and medical officers in charge should ensure rallies were conducted in schools to educate students and camps organised in sensitive areas to check fever patients.
He said no new dengue cases were reported this year so far. Dengue cases are usually found during rainy season. To prevent and control dengue, ASHA and ANM workers will go door-to-door every Sunday, spreading awareness with the slogan 'Attack Mosquitoes, Target Larvae'.
District malaria officer, Sharad Chand Pandey, said ASHA workers would not only raise awareness in their areas but also ensure stagnant water got drained. He said, "In case of fever, consult doctor before taking any medication for

. Dengue larvae breed in clean water, so ASHA workers will ensure source elimination. They will check coolers, pots, fridge trays and containers, ensuring proper disposal of sources. appear, they should contact nearest govt hospital immediately. He said symptoms of dengue might include high fever, severe headache, joint pain, nosebleeds, skin rashes, gum bleeding, eye pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and back pain.

‘Severe Diarrhoea Elimination Campaign' launched in Karnataka's Dharwad
The Dharwad district administration in Karnataka has launched the 'Severe Diarrhoea Elimination Campaign – 2025', in order to prevent life-threatening dehydration caused by diarrhoea in children below the age of five years. The campaign will run untill July 31, 2025, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Divya Prabhu G.R.J. said during its launch at the District Hospital in Dharwad. The campaign will be held in all health centres, sub-centres, and hospitals of the district. ASHA and other health workers will also be conducting awareness programmes in schools and Anganwadi centres. The DC stated that diarrhoea can lead to dangerous levels of dehydration in children, which can be fatal. She emphasised that this can be prevented by administering the correct dosage of ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) and Zinc tablets. The aim of the campaign is to reduce the number of child fatalities due to severe diarrhoea to zero. 'When a child suffers from diarrhoea, ORS and Zinc should be administered promptly to avoid dehydration. Parents are encouraged to visit the nearest health centre to avail free treatment,'' she said. Zilla Panchayat CEO Bhuvanesh Patil said that mothers should take special care of children suffering from diarrhoea, and urged them not to stop breastfeeding during that time, as doing so may increase the risk of dehydration. District Health and Family Welfare Officer S.M. Honakeri informed that there are 2,07,837 children below the age of five in the district. The campaign aims to raise awareness and prevent diarrhoea among these children. He said that this can be achieved through maintaining cleanliness, washing hands properly, and ensuring hygiene during food preparation. District Surgeon Sangappa Gabi emphasised that parents should bring their children to the hospital promptly so that they can receive appropriate treatment and avoid life-threatening situations. Resource persons T.A. Shepur, Dr. Varsha, and Dr. Megha delivered lectures on diarrhoea prevention, dangerous symptoms, and the precautions mothers must take to avoid dehydration in children. Awareness drive held on diarrhea prevention
Kurnool: As part of the district-wide 'Stop Diarrhea Campaign', a comprehensive awareness programme was organised on Thursday at Tarakarama Nagar, under the limits of the Shareen Nagar Urban Primary Health Centre in Kurnool city. The event aimed at educating the public on measures to prevent diarrhea, especially among children under five years of age. District Epidemiology and Medical Officer (DEMO) Srinivasulu Setty participated in the programme and addressed the gathering. He informed that the campaign is being implemented throughout the district from June 16 to July 31 with the objective of reducing child mortality linked to diarrhea diseases. 'Diarrhea remains one of the leading causes of death among children below the age of five,' he said. 'It is critical for parents and caregivers to follow proper hygiene and nutrition practices to safeguard children's health.' During his address, he outlined a list of essential preventive measures such as washing hands thoroughly with soap and clean water, use only safe and purified drinking water, ensure children receive Rotavirus and Pentavalent vaccinations on time, administer Vitamin A syrup as per schedule, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment, always using proper sanitation facilities, exclusively breastfeeding infants for the first six months, introducing complementary feeding from the seventh month onwards. In case of diarrhea, administering ORS solution and Zinc tablets continuously for 14 days and to seek immediate medical care if warning signs appear in children. Setty noted that these precautions can significantly reduce the risk of life-threatening conditions caused by diarrhea and urged the community to remain vigilant and proactive. Also present at the event were Deputy DEMO Dr Chandrashekar Reddy, health workers Anuradha, Jayakumar, and ASHA worker Maddamma, along with other staff who engaged with the public to spread awareness.
