Kashi 1st dist in country to have 104 NQAS certified med units

1 2 Varanasi: So far, the govt of India certified 104 medical units in Varanasi with the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS), setting a new standard across the country. Chief medical officer, Dr Sandeep Chaudhary, said that there is continuous expansion and strengthening of medical and health facilities at the community level. Keeping 'Health is the ultimate wealth' in mind, Ayushman Arogya temples operating near homes are increasing access to better health services in the community. The CMO expressed happiness and thanked the district administration for their support. He said that a total of 104 medical units in the district, including Shri Shiv Prasad Gupta Divisional Hospital, Community Health Center Cholapur, 10 urban and rural primary health centers, and 92 Ayushman Arogya Temples (health sub-centers), were certified with the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS). "This remarkable achievement reflects our collective commitment, dedicated efforts, and special focus on quality in health services," he said. Additionally, the urban and rural community and primary health centers are undergoing the assessment process for rejuvenation and NQAS. Gradually, all Ayushman Arogya temples, CHCs, and PHCs in Varanasi will receive NQAS certification and rejuvenation status, providing the community with quality medical and health facilities. Ayushman Arogya temples scored well on the seven standards set by the govt of India, including care in pregnancy and childbirth, neonatal and infant health services, childhood and adolescent health services, family planning, management of communicable diseases, management of simple illnesses including minor ailments, and management of non-communicable diseases. ‘People above 30 years should get BP checked regularly'

Varanasi: To mark , the health department on Saturday launched a month-long public awareness campaign and screening activities. Chief medical officer Dr Sandeep Chaudhary said: "Every year on May 17, World Hypertension Day is celebrated. The aim is to promote the prevention, early detection, and treatment of hypertension at the community level." During this period, awareness programmes will be held at district hospitals, all urban and rural CHCs and PHCs. These will include walkathons, marathons, rallies, cycling rallies, quizzes, slogan writing, painting competitions and street plays. Additionally, screening camps will be organised at govt health units, bus stands, railway stations and urban slums, where checks for hypertension, diabetes, and cancer will be conducted. The deputy CMO and programme nodal officer Dr YB Pathak said everyone over the age of 30 should regularly get their BP checked. "For this, under the STEMI project, arrangements have been made for testing at all community health centres (CHCs), including district hospitals. Anyone can go there to get tested," he said. He said: "Hypertension is also known as high blood pressure. It often results from an irregular lifestyle, obesity, ignoring stress and poor diet. By adopting a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, we can certainly avoid it. High BP can lead to serious conditions like heart attack, stroke, chronic kidney disease, and vision loss." Common symptoms include headaches, excessive stress, chest pain or heaviness, difficulty breathing, sudden anxiety, difficulty understanding or speaking, sudden numbness, tingling or weakness in the face, arms, or legs, or blurred vision. Such patients should regularly monitor their blood pressure and pay special attention to their diet. Exercise to maintain a balanced weight, and avoid smoking and alcohol consumption," he said.

Varanasi: A special campaign will be launched by health department in Varanasi on Friday to mark National Dengue Day , observed every year on May 16, to raise awareness about causes and prevention of the disease. Chief medical officer Dr Sandeep Chaudhary said people will be educated about symptoms, prevention and treatment of dengue and encouraged to maintain cleanliness around their homes. This year's theme for National Dengue Day is 'Check, Clean, Cover: Steps to Defeat Dengue'. The CMO said all superintendents and medical officers in charge should ensure rallies were conducted in schools to educate students and camps organised in sensitive areas to check fever patients. He said no new dengue cases were reported this year so far. Dengue cases are usually found during rainy season. To prevent and control dengue, ASHA and ANM workers will go door-to-door every Sunday, spreading awareness with the slogan 'Attack Mosquitoes, Target Larvae'. District malaria officer, Sharad Chand Pandey, said ASHA workers would not only raise awareness in their areas but also ensure stagnant water got drained. He said, "In case of fever, consult doctor before taking any medication for dengue prevention . Dengue larvae breed in clean water, so ASHA workers will ensure source elimination. They will check coolers, pots, fridge trays and containers, ensuring proper disposal of sources. People should be made aware to clean such places weekly. People will be encouraged to keep their surroundings clean and use mosquito nets while sleeping. If dengue symptoms appear, they should contact nearest govt hospital immediately. He said symptoms of dengue might include high fever, severe headache, joint pain, nosebleeds, skin rashes, gum bleeding, eye pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and back pain.

Varanasi: The special communicable disease control campaign was successfully conducted from April 1 to April 30 with all departments achieving nearly 100 per cent of their targets. During the Dastak campaign , the health department surveyed approximately 7 lakh households. Individuals with symptoms of fever and influenza-like illness (cold, cough, flu) were screened. Additionally, community and self-help group meetings, and public awareness rallies were organised. District malaria officer Sharad Chand Pandey said under the communicable disease control campaign, Dastak campaign was conducted from April 10 to April 30. Asha and Anganwadi workers identified 2,091 fever cases and 496 ILI (influenza-like illness) patients by visiting households. Under the Dastak campaign, Asha workers identified 697 individuals with malaria symptoms, 496 with cold and fever, 35 with TB symptoms, 39 with filariasis symptoms, and 4 with leprosy symptoms. All were examined and treated. A total of 2,516 drains were cleaned, and 1,439 bushes were cut. Additionally, 308 India Mark-2 hand pumps and 126 platforms were repaired. 110 ponds and 145 areas with stagnant water were cleaned. The Swachh Bharat Mission constructed 569 toilets.
