Proposal to open kayaking at 10 more spots in Kodagu district
Madikeri: To encouarge water sports in a big way, the tourism department is considering a proposal to open kayaking at 10 more spots in Kodagu district.
Presently, river rafting and kayaking are allowed in Dubare and Barapole.
Applications have been submitted for kayaking in the areas of Hemavathi River, Kodlipet Doddakund, Devastur River near Hattihole, Aivattoklu, Hoddur, Harangi backwater area, Herur, Nakur-Shirangala, Byrampada, and Chikkabettageri, Kodagu deputy director of tourism Anitha Bhaskar said.
At present, a total of 75 rafts are available at Dubare and 24 rafts at Barapole. Under the Karnataka Tourism Policy 2024-29, kayaking, one of the water adventure sports, is promoted.
Anitha Bhaskar said that 11 applications have been submitted in this regard in the district. The district committee is studying these applications and will decide after reviewing the feasibility report.

The meeting, held at the tourist centre near Harangi Reservoir in the presence of MLA Manthar Gowda, was chaired by deputy commissioner Venkat Raja.
The meeting approved the installation of shelters in the ticket counter area of the river rafting venue, step railings for the safety of tourists, changing rooms for guides, benches, and extended drinking water facilities and toilets, besides the installation of CCTVs.
Water adventure sports are a main attraction during the monsoon season. The MLA suggested that a rafting fitness certificate should be obtained from the General Thimmaiah National Academy of Adventure (GETHNAA).
He also said that a verification should be done by the police department. In addition, guides should take and pass a skill test.
In order to attract more tourists, Manthar Gowda suggested installing signboards at Bilikere in Hunsur taluk, Hunsur-Gonikoppal junction on Mysuru road, and Siddapur-Periyapatna junction roads.
DC Venkat Raja said that if there is any problem during river rafting, the entire tourism of Kodagu district will be hit. Therefore, caution should be taken, and he directed that the river rafting rules should be strictly followed.
Meanwhile, permission has already been given for conducting white river rafting in Kumaralli (Beedalli) in Somwarpet taluk.

Mid-Air scare: Air India's shaking door makes hissing noise; crew manages situation, flight lands safely
Representative Image MUMBAI: Passengers on board an Air India flight from Delhi to Hong Kong had a harrowing time after a door of the Boeing 787 aircraft started shaking and making hissing, growling noises about an hour into the flight operated on June 1. AI's flight attendants plugged paper napkins into the thin gap at the top of the door and pushed it to seal and quieten it, while the flight continued to its destination and landed safely. This was not the first case of a B787 having a door grumbling mid-flight. At least three other instances were recorded by airlines, the first in 2019 by Japan Airlines and then two cases in 2022 involving German carrier TUI Airlines and American Airlines. In all three cases, pilots diverted the flight back to the airport of origin because of the noisy doors.
