Fire continues to rage at scrap yard

Yahoo27-05-2025

More than two dozen firefighters continue to tackle a blaze at a scrap yard in Kent which broke out more than 24 hours ago.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) said it was called to the London Scrap Terminal in Northfleet Mill in Crete Hall Road, Gravesend, shortly after 02:00 BST on Monday.
On Tuesday morning, 25 fire fighters were still working to put out the "deep seated" fire, which has seen an estimated 5,000 tonnes of scrap metal caught alight.
The fire service is asking residents nearby to keep windows closed as there is heavy smoke in the area.
The fire service is using a high-volume pump to take water from the nearby estuary to tackle the fire.
Jim Chaston, from KFRS, said: "We working really hard, with great help from the on-site staff using their heavy machinery, to work our way into the hotspots."
Mr Chaston said he expects crews to remain at the scrap yard until "at least tomorrow".
"From there, it's really about how quickly we can work our way into the pile," he said.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, Mr Jones added.

Bodybuilder ‘She Hulk' beaten to death with hammer, husband found dead: ‘She was being abused and wanted a divorce'

A Colombian bodybuilder known as 'She Hulk' was beaten to death with a hammer while vacationing in Spain — and her husband was found dead with 'self-inflicted stab wounds,' according to police and local reports. Zunilda Hoyos Mendez, 43, and her beefy husband of four years Jarrod Gelling, 46, were found dead in their rental home in Malaga, where they had been staying for about a month following Gelling's knee surgery. Mendez, who went by Amy, had told relatives that Gelling was being aggressive toward her over the past year and the two intended on divorcing following their trip, which would have ended with a bodybuilding competition in Portugal in a couple of weeks, family members said. 'She was being abused and wanted a divorce,' the victim's family told Spanish newspaper Sur. Mendez died as a result of repeated blows with a hammer while Gelling's body was found in the bathroom with what police have described as 'apparent self-inflicted stab wounds,' according to The Sun, citing local Spanish outlets. Zunilda Hoyos Mendez was found dead on Thursday in Malaga, Spain. Zunilda Hoyos Mendez/Instagram Their bloodied bodies were found in the residence around 2 p.m. Thursday. 'Her body showed obvious signs of violence and that of the man's signs indicating a suicide-type death which is something an autopsy will have to confirm,' Spanish National Police said. Mendez's family hadn't heard from her since Saturday, after she and Gelling — who is reportedly Colombian and American — had traveled to southern Spain from Dubai, where they had spent most of the past year. Mendez's niece Yuleydis told Sur her aunt was going to help Gelling following a knee operation before traveling to Portugal to compete and then going back to Colombia to finalize their divorce. Mendez dubbed herself the 'She Hulk.' Zunilda Hoyos Mendez/Instagram 'For my aunt, it was her last trip with him — a farewell. She had taken the decision to divorce him, because of his aggressive behavior,' said Yuleydis. 'They had broken up already once and were apart for quite a while but then got back together again to try to resolve things, although the mistreatment continued,' she added. In addition to bodybuilding, Mendez boasted more than 100,000 followers on OnlyFans, according to local reports. Her coach, Brandon Rey, said in a heartbreaking Instagram post that in just 17 days, they 'were going to hit the stage and shock the world.' 'I told you that you could possibly be in the top 10 in the world by the end of this year and I meant it,' Rey wrote. 'Rest in paradise Amy.' 'We were so close to the end, but the closest person to you ended it too soon,' Rey said in another post. 'Domestic violence should never be taken lightly because it can leave many with a heavy heart.' Police are still investigating the killing.

Chris Brown Returns To The U.K. To Enter His Plea For Alleged Nightclub Assault

Chris Brown takes a break from tour to fight for his innocence! The R&B singer arrived in the United Kingdom to put in his plea on the running charge of causing bodily harm to an alleged victim in a nightclub two years ago. Chris Brown was previously taken into Manchester police custody last month in connection with the nightclub attack. The 36-year-old, alongside his team of lawyers, decided to plead not guilty to allegedly assaulting music producer Abe Diaw with a tequila bottle at a London nightclub in 2023. The process took place at the Southwark Crown Court around 10 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025. Decked in a blue suit and black tie corporate fit, Brown reportedly said nothing more than to enter his "not guilty" plea, identify himself, and his date of birth. His co-defendant, Dallas rapper and producer Omololu Akinlolu, also went through the same process in court. PEOPLE confirmed that adjudication will be the next stage of the case and is set to begin on July 11. The main trial is also scheduled to commence on October 26, 2026. Brown was released on a $6.7 million bail on May 21, after his arrest in the United Kingdom. Brown's arrest occurred in the early hours of May 15 in Manchester at The Lowry Hotel in the heart of the city, just hours before his appearance in court. London's Metropolitan police confirmed the arrest and reported that Brown had been seized on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. They confirmed that he was in custody at the time of their statement, which read, "A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, May 15 on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody, where he remains." The police noted that investigations into the incident that happened at Hanover Square on February 19, 2023, were being supervised by detectives of the Central West Area Basic Command Unit. His arrest happened in the middle of his ongoing "Breezy Bowl" stadium tour, which celebrates his two-decades-long career in the music industry. Brown's arrest did not go unnoticed. News that he had been taken into police custody on foreign soil sparked reactions from his fans and friends. As seen on The Blast, Odell Beckham Jr. was among the first people to speak on the development. The NFL star hopped on Instagram to share a photo of his long-time friend, accompanied by a bold declaration. "Free Breeeezyyy. The moral compass will never lie ... we waiting on ya," the wide receiver wrote on the post. Beckham and the "Warm Embrace" singer have maintained a close friendship for decades since he broke out as a superstar in the National Football League. The violent confrontation happened at Tape nightclub around 3 a.m. when Brown reportedly launched at Diaw unprovoked. According to the producer's account of events, Brown broke a liquor bottle against his head and beat him when he was on the ground, leading him to sustain serious injuries. Diaw added in the suit that he was physically hit several times, and the intensity of the attack led to his knee collapsing. He was then transported to the hospital and had to use crutches afterwards to walk. That producer proceeded to file a civil case against Brown after the attack. He sought damages of $16 million as a result of physical and financial injuries suffered during the incident. The actor somehow finds himself engrossed in one lawsuit or the other. The Blast stated that in 2021, his former housekeeper served him with a lawsuit accusing him of treating her injuries from a dog attack in his home with negligence and insensitivity. Maria Avila explained in the lawsuit that the singer's large Caucasian dog attacked her while she was on duty in his home in 2020. The dog reportedly disfigured her face and arms, prompting her to go for immediate treatment. However, she claimed the rapper, even with full knowledge of her condition, failed to take proactive steps to protect her, either financially or in other ways. She claimed that he instead instructed his staff to hide evidence by getting rid of the dog. The dog, named Hades, was then ferried to Humboldt County, but he was rescued by the Humane Society, which later euthanized him. Avila demanded a settlement of $90 million in damages from the singer to get her back on track and ease losses suffered during the attack and treatment. Which way will the hammer of justice swing for Chris Brown?

Shedeur Sanders cited for speeding twice in June amid Browns QB battle

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders was cited by police on Tuesday morning for driving 101 mph, 40 mph over the speed limit. It turns out that Tuesday's infraction was not his first. According to Medina, Ohio court records Sanders received another citation in June. The first came on June 5 in Brunswick, Ohio where the former Colorado star quarterback was cited for going 91 mph in a 65 mph zone. Browns officials told that Sanders' "is taking care of the tickets." Sanders is squarely in the middle of a hard fought quarterback competition. He has pefermored well during spring practices, but only being a fifth round pick makes any negative feel like it could cost him a chance at playing meaningful football. At a Thursday afternoon charity softball game, Sanders attempted to apologize for his actions admitting, "I've made some wrong choices." The half-hearted apology does not seem like a concerted effort to improve his off field actions, but in the grand scheme of "things"incidents" a speeding ticket is very low on the totem pole. Whether Sanders learns from his two speeding tickets and fully owns up to his mistakes remains to be seen, but any off-field transgression will be under the spotlight considering his name and already highly publicizied first few months in the NFL.
