Covington Eagles to host fundraiser for Hurricane Helene relief
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Covington Fraternal Order of Eagles will hold a fundraising event this weekend for people affected by Hurricane Helene.
The event will benefit Western North Carolina disaster relief. It will be held in partnership with Spokes of Hope, a non-profit that is rebuilding areas affected like Chimney Rock and Bat Cave, one brick and one beam at a time.
It will start on Saturday, April 12, at 1 p.m. at the Covington Fraternal Order of Eagles, 715 E. Broadway St. in Covington. Attendees are asked to enter through the east side of the building.
Highlights of the event will include live and silent auctions, a meat raffle, a bake sale and a 50/50 raffle. Food will be available at Bee's Boba, Timeless Tacos and Potato Tornado trucks.
Some of the featured items at the auctions will include art made by Bob Graham and Josh Kerr. These items were made from debris that washed up behind their shop after the hurricane.

Spartanburg Co. shares new Helene recovery data
SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Spartanburg County Emergency Management is asking residents what the community needs to recover from Hurricane Helene. Emergency Management shared in a media release that newly updated Helene data revealed many members of the community still have a lot of unmet needs. Data from the agency revealed that, as of June 2025, more than 500 properties in Spartanburg County have still not recovered from Helene. These unmet needs can range from tree damage to shorted HVAC systems, but data further shows that a majority of community needs focus on debris assistance and home damage. A majority of people seeking aid are also over the age of 65. 'At this time, there are more unmet needs than resources,' said Emergency Management. To help address community needs, Emergency Management established a new Long Term Recovery Group that is dedicated to Helene Recovery. The group has officially partnered with the Spartanburg County Foundation, United Way and others. For anyone still requiring assistance from Hurricane Helene, Emergency Management asked that they provide information regarding their needs. Spartanburg residents can find the link to share their needs here. Emergency Management asks county members to donate or volunteer with a local non-profit, such as Rebuilding Together, Eight Days of Hope, Team Rubicon and more, if in a well enough position to assist their community. Wright Flyer III is now Ohio's official state airplane
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The historic 1905 Wright Flyer III is being recognized on the state level with a new designation. Gov. Mike DeWine visited Carillon Park in Dayton Friday to sign off on Senate Bill 24, which designates the Wright Flyer as Ohio's official state airplane. The bill was sponsored by state senators Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) and Steve Huffman (R-Tipp City). High flying acts announced for 2025 Dayton Air Show The Wright Flyer III was first flown by Orville Wright on June 23, 1905. This plane is significant since it was flown in Dayton — having been tested at Huffman Prairie near Fairborn. 'The 1905 Wright Flyer III is a prime example of why Ohio is considered the heart of innovation,' said DeWine. 'Making the Wright Flyer III the official state airplane is a great way to honor Ohio's aviation heritage.' The ceremonial signing took place at the John W. Berry Sr. Wright Brothers National Museum, where the original Wright Flyer is on display. DeWine says only 20 percent of the plane has been restored, with 80 percent still being the original materials crafted by the Wright Brothers themselves. 'It's a wonderful thing to to come out here and to see it,' said DeWine. 'These two guys from Dayton, Ohio, who had a bicycle/print shop and decided that, they got inspired, that they wanted to fly and they figured it out.' The John W. Fire at Miami Township home under investigation
MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) — Firefighters were called Friday afternoon to a Miami Township neighborhood. Crews from the Miami Valley Fire District were dispatched to the area of Pinegrove and Silvercliff drives. Officials arrived to the location in reference to a reported structure fire. Sprinklers cause $200K in damage to MIX 107.7 after downtown fire Officials at the scene told our 2 NEWS crew at the scene that no one is believed to have been home at the time of the fire.
