Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool striker talks SET
Fabrizio Romano confirms that talks for a Liverpool striker are now set. This one could move quickly.
Liverpool are all about strikers this summer as they look to strike deals in both directions. Principally, their dream is to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
Just how possible that is remains up to debate. Newcastle qualified for the UEFA Champions League, removing any need to sell - the question is whether they'd just like to.
Isak is worth an incredible amount of money, after all, and Newcastle lack PSR room. Selling the Swede would free up an incredible amount of space, allowing them to upgrade their squad in several places.
Though, whether those upgrades make up for losing Isak is another matter. And even then, Liverpool can't actually move for Isak until they've cleared a bit of space in their own squad.
Things are moving forward on that front, however.
Darwin Nunez in Napoli talks
Fabrizio Romano confirms that Napoli are to enter a final round of talks with Darwin Nunez's representatives as they see if a deal is possible. The Uruguayan is fully expected to leave Liverpool this season - it's just a question of where.
Napoli appear to be the favourites right now. That's after Nunez reportedly rejected a mega-offer from Al-Hilal ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Atletico Madrid are also supposedly looking into a possible deal for Liverpool's no.9. Napoli, though, look like frontrunners.
They're trying to offload Victor Osimhen and use the money to buy a new striker to lead the line. Nunez fits the bill but does he want to move there?
We're not sure what kind of wages they're offering, though Nunez's rejection of a Saudi Pro League move suggests he's not chasing money here. Instead, we imagine he's after a solid role with a top European club.

Napoli will try to offer him that. If he likes what they say in this last round of talks, Liverpool can fully expect an offer.
And it's one they're very open to receiving as they plan their own major moves.

Arne Slot blown away by Liverpool player who has 'met all expectations' - 'not seen by many'
Arne Slot pays tribute to "perfect goalkeeper" Alisson Becker in a brand new documentary profiling Liverpool's No.1. In a three-part series called 'Alisson: My Story' Slot heaps praise on the ability of the Brazil international, saying he has the ideal skill set for a modern goalkeeper to thrive at the elite level. Advertisement The LFC Original docuseries premieres on Friday at midday before episodes two and three arrive on official club channels on June 23 and 26, respectively and Slot is fulsome in his credit, saying: 'He meets almost all expectations you want from the perfect goalkeeper. READ MORE: What the ECHO understands about Liverpool transfer plans as Jarell Quansah closes in on £35m exit READ MORE: Arne Slot set to make summer decision over Liverpool signing that infuriated rivals "Normally, you have to accept from a goalkeeper that maybe one or two he doesn't have, but he's comfortable with the ball at his feet. Advertisement 'He's relaxed, so he has no stress at all, where sometimes you see goalkeepers that are comfortable with the ball – good in the execution – are having a little bit of stress when the ball comes to them. But it seems as if he has no stress at all! 'Then of course because he is so tall, in crosses he can come for every single cross. That is really helpful for every defence. And shot-stopping is maybe his best asset he has. "It's very hard to score a goal against him from outside the box, it's almost impossible. And inside the box you have to be really precise if you want to score a goal against him.' Slot adds: 'I think that role [in the Premier League title win] is clear for everyone who watched all our games – in the moments we needed him, he was there for us. Advertisement 'But what is not known for everyone is his influence in the group. He is not the loudest but every time he speaks, everyone is listening. "Before the game he is not the one who speaks most but he's always there to bring messages to the players, and I think this is what's not being seen by many: that he is one of the leaders of our group. 'Not by being vocal a lot but by being the person that he is. So, I think everybody feels comfortable with him, because he's such a good human being. But he's also a leader in terms of motivating the group, whenever he thinks that's necessary.'

Report: Robertson Exit Progresses Amid Transfer Flurry
Liverpool's Summer Shake-Up: Robertson Says Yes to Atletico Amid Record Moves Robertson Exit Edges Closer as Wirtz Arrival Nears Liverpool's 2025 summer transfer window is turning into one of the most eventful in recent memory. While the headlines are rightly dominated by the anticipated arrival of Florian Wirtz – expected to become the club's record signing – it's the news on Andy Robertson that's sparked a stir amongst Reds supporters. Advertisement According to Sport, the Scottish full-back has given Atletico Madrid the green light to press on with a move. It's a statement that signals the beginning of the end of an era for one of Jurgen Klopp's most iconic signings. Although Robertson's potential departure has come as a surprise the timing may actually make sense from a strategic point of view. With only one year remaining on his contract and Milos Kerkez set to arrive, Robertson's role in Arne Slot's setup could be significantly reduced. Photo IMAGO Smart Sales Fuel Record Spending This is not just a summer of arrivals; it's one of calculated departures. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher have already been sold, and now Robertson may follow. While losing such a trio in one window might feel drastic, it's part of Liverpool's broader recalibration – trimming ageing or unsettled assets to fund an ambitious rebuild. Slot Era Taking Shape The surprise sale of Robertson, if completed, will not be a sentimental decision – it will be a statement. The Slot era is clearly not beholden to past glories. Frimpong, Pecsi, Wirtz and Kerkez mark the start of a more flexible, technical and modern Liverpool. Advertisement As the window unfolds, it's becoming clearer that this is not just a refresh – it's a redefinition. Our View – Anfield Index Analysis For many Liverpool fans, the idea of Andy Robertson in anything other than red feels borderline sacrilegious. This is a player who defined Klopp's heavy metal football – tireless runs, crunching tackles, and big-game consistency. But football waits for no one. From a supporter's lens, this deal is bittersweet. If Robertson does join Atletico, he'll be doing so with our best wishes – he deserves to test himself in another top European league. But it stings, especially when you consider the timing: just as we're preparing to welcome young talents like Kerkez, Frimpong and Wirtz. Advertisement That said, the trust in Arne Slot and the sporting structure should not be underestimated. If this summer is about laying the groundwork for the next great Liverpool side, then difficult decisions are part of the job. Losing Trent and Robbo in the same window is seismic emotionally – but possibly essential tactically. And let's be honest – if Liverpool are securing €100m players and building a youthful, high-ceiling side, then selling smart is non-negotiable. Just as fans learned to love the likes of Robertson and Wijnaldum after initial scepticism, there's room to fall for this next crop too. Still, seeing Robbo in red and white instead of just red? That'll take time to get used to.

Royal Ascot 2025: Venetian Sun wins the Albany Stakes
Venetian Sun (7-1) ran out a dominant winner of the Albany Stakes, the opener on the fourth day of Royal Ascot 2025. Liverpool FC fan and trainer Karl Burke has another good crop of juveniles this season but had seen a few run below par at Ascot this week as Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien mopped up many of the contests. But Venetian Sun, who had made a taking debut when winning at Carlisle over five furlongs last month, provided welcome relief to give him another Royal Ascot winner. Advertisement The two-year-old Starman filly seemed to be badly drawn in stall one with many winners this week coming from the opposite side of the track. But as Nandita cut out the running towards the stands' side, Venetian Sun was always travelling well under Clifford Lee in the pack towards the centre of the track. But she came through smoothly to take over the lead two out and stayed on really well, stepped up to six furlongs, to score by a length-and-a-half from George Boughey's Awaken (66-1). Irish raider Balantina (40-1) was a length back in third and Fitzella (4-1) a further half-a-length adrift in fourth. While Ballydoyle trainer O'Brien had seen Gstaad, True Love and Charles Darwin all land juvenile contests in good style earlier in the week, his 15-8 favourite Signora couldn't follow suit and was never a factor before finishing ninth. READ MORE: Liverpool transfer news LIVE - Florian Wirtz medical, Alexander Isak latest, Marc Guehi bid READ MORE: Arne Slot blown away by Liverpool player who has 'met all expectations' - 'not seen by many' But it was all about Venetian Sun, who was given quotes ranging from 16-1 with Betfred and 33-1 with Skybet for next season's Betfred 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket. Burke won this race with Dandalla in 2020 and in the colours of Brighton & Hove Albion owner Tony Bloom, the North Yorkshire handler was grabbing a seventh success at Royal Ascot and a first of the week. Advertisement An impressed Burke said: Burke added: 'I think she's a very special filly. The work she has done at home, I haven't had a two-year-old filly do work like it; just the last six weeks. I haven't had a two-year-old filly work like her. She was kicking older group horses out at home – and I'm talking 110-rated horses. She's kicking older group horses out the way at home. I worked a good, old work horse with her about a month ago or just after her debut and I had to work her with another good one that I knew was reliable and she did the same to him and I'm talking 110 rated horses. I think she's very special." Jockey Lee was winning for the second time at Royal Ascot after Burke's Significantly landed the Palace Of Holyrood Handicap in 2021. He told ITV Racing: "When she ran first time at Carlisle, she done that very nicely. James at home, Lucy's boyfriend, he rides her every day and he said to me, before the season even started, we had a really good filly on our hands. When she ran at Carlisle, very stiff track, she was very babyish that day. "She probably wasn't quite switched on but after that first run James said she'd come on nearly 20lbs from that run. We're delighted to get one for the team and another Royal Ascot winner. You think you come here with a really good chance but so do 20 other runners in the race. You need a bit of a lottery unless you're riding the top quality horses but we knew we had a good filly on our hands. Mr Burke has given me plenty of chances all over the country, and in different countries, and hopefully it pays off in time." Owner Bloom added: "We were concerned about the draw but we knew how good a horse Venetian Sun is. Karl Burke didn't stop telling us and she's run unbelievable, to win in this field at Royal Ascot so we're all delighted. Huge belief (in her). Obviously he sees her every day and has seen the work that she can do and she's improved so much from her first run at Carlisle. Advertisement "It was a stiff track at Carlisle and she was in front for quite a long way though so she's shown a lot of improvement at home since that run and looking at her run today I'm confident she can go further. It's always amazing to be at Royal Ascot with a runner let alone with a winner so really, really pleased. It's a beautiful day and a beautiful start to the day. 'Yes, 7-1 looks a good price now, and she was 12-1 this morning as well. Given the confidence Karl gave us, we had to have a decent bet. We'll leave it to the bossman, but we're looking ahead to next season and to a potential 1000 Guineas, so that would be something really to look forward to. 'The last six weeks her work at home has been outstanding, so we came with confidence. We got a very bad draw – the worst draw – and things didn't necessarily go right for her in the race and she won easily, so we are super-confident that she is an amazing horse. We are hopeful she will get a mile next year. We ended up getting a better price because of the draw, but we weren't happy with the draw because we knew we needed a lot to go right. I'm not saying a lot did go right, but she won.' On runner-up, trainer Boughey said: 'Delighted with Awaken. She's a filly who is still very raw and green. That (performance) was not unexpected, though she was 66-1. I was delighted with her work into the run and she's a filly is a nice replacement for Believing for Highclere. It's great to have a good horse for them and long may it continue.' Advertisement On future plan, he added: 'I don't know, we shall see. She's still very raw and weak at the moment. We will just get her home, see how she is and make a plan – but all the usual races; she will probably stay at six for the moment, she could go to the July meeting for the Duchess of Cambridge. She's a good filly.' Tom Marquand, who rode the Donnacha O'Brien-trained third-home Balantina, said: 'A huge run. A little bit frustrating she stepped a touch slow, like she did her first run, but ran massive. I thought it was a good salvage performance to go and pick up a place, as it was tough work from where she was.'
