Severe thunderstorm watch issued as weather system moves through region

A line of thunderstorms will be passing through the area Wednesday, prompting a severe thunderstorm watch from Environment Canada.
Several counties, including Bruce, Brandt, and Haldimand are under a rainfall warning. These areas could see an additional 40 to 60 millilitres of rain.
'The rest of the area, expecting some rain – heavy at times – as rounds of thunderstorms move through,' said CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. 'In London, potential for upwards of 20 millimetres of rain.'
Atchison added that some of these thunderstorms will have intense lightning and strong wind gusts.
Some more showers are expected Wednesday night into Thursday, bringing some cooling relief. However, some extreme heat is in the forecast beginning this weekend and lasting into next week.

Wednesday: Mainly cloudy. 30 per cent chance of showers near noon. Showers beginning near noon. Risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon. Local amount 15 to 25 mm. High 28. Humidex 36.
Wednesday night: Showers or a few thunderstorms ending near midnight then cloudy with 40 per cent chance of showers. Risk of a thunderstorm overnight. Wind becoming southwest 30 km/h this evening then light after midnight. Low 17.
Thursday: Cloudy. 30 per cent chance of showers in the morning. Wind becoming north 30 km/h in the morning. High 22. Humidex 26.
Friday: A mix of sun and cloud with 30 per cent chance of showers. High 27.
Saturday: Sunny. Windy. High 29.
Sunday: Sunny. High 33.

Wet weekend forces WinSport to press pause on opening weekend of bike park

WinSport's Bike Park is delaying opening due to heavy rain and winds in the forecast this weekend. Wet, blustery weather in the Calgary weekend forecast has forced WinSport to delay opening day of its bike park. With Environment Canada and Climate Change calling for up to 100 millimetres of rain by Sunday, the official launch of the park has been delayed until Tuesday, WinSport said in a media release. A few days of sun will be needed to dry out the soggy trails. Sorry to rain on your parade, but plenty of wet weather is coming! 💦 The WinSport Bike Park will now welcome riders for 2025 on Tuesday, June 24 instead of Saturday, June 21. For all the details on mountain biking at WinSport, please visit: — WinSport (@WinSportCanada) June 19, 2025 The bike park is Alberta's only chairlift-accessible mountain bike park and it's specifically designed for intermediate and advanced riders. Weather permitting, the park will open for the season on Tuesday. Until Sept. 1, it will open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays and holiday Mondays between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. It will be open Thursdays and Fridays between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. and closed Mondays, except for holidays.
