Vivo X Fold 5 launching on June 25: Everything to know about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 rival

India Today13-06-2025

It's going to be an intense foldable rivalry in the month of July. Not only is the Vivo X Fold 5, the successor to the X Fold 3 from last year, rumoured to release on July 10, but the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is also tipped to launch on the same date. We've already done a bunch of stories around the Galaxy Z Fold 7, so we won't delve into that here. Instead, let's turn our focus to the Vivo X Fold 5. As of now, the phone is expected to launch in India sometime in July, while the official China launch has been confirmed for June 25 at 7 PM local time. Here's everything you need to know.advertisementWhile Vivo hasn't dropped any official teaser for India, the phone has already taken the internet by storm in China. Its product page is live on Vivo's official Chinese website, and pre-orders have begun. Interestingly, last year's X Fold 3 series had two models — standard and Pro — but only the X Fold 3 Pro came to India. This year, it seems like Vivo is starting with just one model — the standard X Fold 5. That said, we'll have to wait for June 25 to see if a Pro variant also makes an appearance. Now, coming to what the device offers — a lot of the key details have already been shared by Vivo's product manager, Han Boxiao, on Weibo. He has confirmed that the phone will use 8T LTPO panels on both the inner and outer screens, offering a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to 4,500 nits peak brightness. Both displays are also expected to support TV Rheinland's global eye protection and Zeiss Master colour certification. Vivo claims this will deliver better clarity, comfort, and colour accuracy in all lighting conditions, compared to its predecessor.advertisement
The Vivo X Fold 5 also meets IP5X dust protection and an IPX9+ water resistance rating. It can reportedly be folded and unfolded 1,000 times even under a depth of 1m of water, and can keep working at temperatures as low as -20C.Another key highlight is its weight and thickness. The X Fold 5 is said to be significantly slimmer and lighter than the previous model, weighing around 209g and measuring just 4.3mm when unfolded. On the specs front, the Vivo X Fold 5 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, paired with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. The camera setup is likely to include a 50-megapixel triple rear camera system, though finer details are still under wraps. The battery could be around 6,000mAh with support for 90W fast charging and 30W wireless charging — again, solid numbers for a foldable.Perhaps the most surprising detail so far is that the Vivo X Fold 5 may offer support for Apple's ecosystem. According to the teasers shared on Weibo, the phone might be able to connect with the Apple Watch, access iCloud files directly, and even work with MacBooks and AirPods. If this turns out to be true, it would mark a rare moment of cross-platform compatibility — something no other Android brand has really done.advertisementAll said, the focus now remains on Vivo and how it positions the phone in terms of pricing in India. As mentioned above, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to launch around the same time, and also, it's highly unlikely that both phones will end up launching on the same date, considering these are two biggies from the smartphone industry we are talking about. However, if by even 1 per cent chance it does happen, if both the X Fold 5 and Z Fold 7 do launch on the same day, it's going to be an interesting day in smartphone history. July seems to be fun.Stay tuned to India Today Tech for all the latest on the upcoming foldable phones in July.

Vivo X Fold 5 India launch leaked, may launch soon after Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

Vivo is launching its new generation foldable smartphone, the Vivo X Fold 5, in the global market. The smartphone is making its China debut on June 25 and is expected to launch in India in July. The Vivo X Fold 5 was also spotted on the BIS platform, hinting towards an imminent India launch. As we get closer to the launch timeline, a new report has come forward revealing the India launch timeline for the new Vivo foldable. Additionally, it might come as a surprise to many that the Vivo X Fold 5 could launch soon after the global launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. Therefore, it will be a clash of two strong competitors in the foldable smartphone market. According to a 91Mobiles report, the Vivo X Fold 5 could launch between July 10 and July 15 in India. However, the official launch date is still awaited. This launch timeline is very close to the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event, which is expected to take place on July 9. Therefore, in the same month, we will get two flagship book-style foldables, enabling buyers to have wider options. Alongside the India launch timeline, the Vivo X Fold 5 is expected to come with a thin and lightweight design. Therefore, the smartphone's slimness will be compared with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Honor Magic V5. In terms of numbers, the Vivo X Fold 5 could measure 11.2mm when folded and 5.2mm when unfolded. Despite having a slim build, the X Fold 5 is rumoured to be backed by a 6000mAh battery that may come with 80W wired and 40W wireless charging support.
