Galaxy Z Fold 7 renders reveal a major camera change hiding in plain sight
TL;DR Leaked Galaxy Z Fold 7 renders show that the phone will have a punch-hole camera on its folding screen. This would be a major change as Samsung has used an under-display camera since 2021's Galaxy Z Fold 3. This means the Galaxy Z Fold 7 should take higher-quality selfies and videos with this camera. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to launch next month, and apparent renders were posted online yesterday. These images show an impressively thin foldable phone, but another change went unnoticed by us until now. Android Headlines posted Galaxy Z Fold 7 renders yesterday (June 19), and the images show a punch-hole camera on the folding screen. That would be a significant change, as Samsung has offered an under-display selfie camera on the folding display since 2021's Galaxy Z Fold 3. Check out the image at the top of the page and the image below. This change might disappoint some people who value a full-screen experience with no interruptions. However, a punch-hole camera should deliver much better picture quality than an under-display shooter. Under-display selfie cameras lag behind conventional cameras because the screen prevents a lot of light from hitting the camera sensor. This results in noisy, dark photos compared to even old budget phones, as well as excessive lens flare and other weird artifacts. In fact, contributor Ryan Whitwam thought the Galaxy Z Fold 6's under-display camera took photos that were 'soft and low-fi.' He concluded that this camera was only good for video calls. So we're glad to see Samsung switching to a more conventional camera after all this time. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Galaxy Z Fold 7 renders leak — and it looks like Samsung's fixed two big problems
Our best look yet at the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has just been provided by Android Headlines and OnLeaks, who have published allegedly official renders of Samsung's next big foldable phone. One of the most interesting changes visible in these renders is a punch-hole camera on the inner display. The last time Samsung had one of these on a Z Fold's main screen was the Galaxy Z Fold 2, with every subsequent Z Fold, including the current Galaxy Z Fold 6 using an under-display camera. Having a hidden camera in the display is quite the technological feat. But it usually means a drop in image quality from that camera having to shoot through layers of the display. With Samsung using only a tiny 4MP sensor, this problem was made even worse. A move back to a punch-hole in the main display should not impact its usability, but will hopefully make the camera more useful for selfies or video calls again. The renders also seem to demonstrate the changes Samsung is tipped to be making to the Galaxy Z Fold 7's body. The new foldable is said to be slimmer and lighter but also wider than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, giving the phone more screen space while also making it easier to handle. As a result, the outer display is apparently going to be 6.5 inches in size, compared to the 6.3-inch one on the Z Fold 6. The Z Fold 7's inner display meanwhile is thought to be 8.2 inches, another increase in size from the Z Fold 6's 7.6-inch panel. The two colors we see in these renders are apparently called Blue Shadow and Jet Black. Other colors will be available according to AH, although it doesn't provide any further information. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Samsung's been unusually open about its plans for the Galaxy Z Fold 7. While it hasn't identified the device by name, it has published a number of teasers hinting at an Ultra-grade experience for its next foldable. Samsung hasn't given us a launch date yet, but it looks like the Z Fold 7, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the Galaxy Watch 8 could arrive on July 9 at a new Galaxy Unpacked showcase. If the upgrades seemingly on show in these renders are indeed made to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, it could be enough to put Samsung back on top of our best foldable phones guide after years of stagnation. But we'll save our proper impressions for when the facts are confirmed, and after we've had hands-on time with the new foldable.

New images of ‘world's thinnest foldable' show what the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is up against
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will face stiff competition when it arrives next month as we get a better look at the Honor Magic V5, with official images of the soon-to-be world's thinnest foldable phone. The battle for the best folding phone of the year is intensifying. We've already had the Motorola Razr 2025, Razr Ultra, and the super slender Oppo Find N5, but things are reaching fever pitch with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 expected to arrive in the coming weeks. Recommended Videos But that's not before the Honor Magic V5 arrives on the scene on July 2. Honor has already confirmed the V5 will be the world's thinnest foldable, nabbing the crown from the Find N5, and the images posted to its Weibo account give us a closer look at its svelte side profile. There is one elephant in the room when looking at these images though, the camera bump. Don't expect Honor to be taking into account this sizable protrusion when it talks millimetres come the launch on July 2. It's highly likely we'll be given the dimensions of the thinnest part of the handset. While that may feel a little disingenuous, it's common practice for smartphone manufacturers to take the thinnest part of their products when flaunting these impressive specs. So while the Magic V5 will be chunkier than the advertised thickness around the camera, it's still set to be a foldable with head-turning attraction. Game on Honor isn't the only one hyping up its upcoming foldable, as Samsung has been heavily teasing the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in recent weeks as well. Samsung is billing is upcoming handset as its 'thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet', with rumors suggesting it has a significant design overhaul in the works. Its current foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, is portly in comparison to the competition from Honor, Oppo, and Google – measuring 12.1mm folded. To be the world's thinnest foldable, the Honor Magic V5 will need to be under 8.9mm (the thickness of the Find N5). We've seen reports from SamMobile and Android Headlines suggesting Samsung could get the thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 down to around 9mm, which would be a marked improvement. And while the Magic V5 might be thinner, it's unlikely to be available in the US – giving Samsung a clear shot at winning over foldable fans. Via Android Authority

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 fresh leak leaves little to the imagination before rumoured July 9 launch
July is fast approaching, and so is the Galaxy Unpacked event, which is rumoured to take place on July 9. At this event, Samsung is expected to announce a range of foldables and wearables. However, the spotlight of the show — as it always has been with mid-year Unpacked events — will be on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. That said, we don't need to wait until July to know about the upcoming Samsung foldables, as the duo — Fold and Flip — have leaked in all their glory, leaving little to the imagination. advertisementFolks over at Android Headlines have got their hands on some alleged 'official' renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Both phones look amazing, especially in the new blue colour and how sleek they appear. Speaking of which, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is super thin, and you only realise it when you see it next to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Galaxy Z Fold 7 (left) and Galaxy Z Fold 6 (right) / Credit: Android Headlines Without further ado, let's start with the details on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. This phone is said to come in two colours: Jet Black and Blue Shadow. The latter shade will remind you of the Galaxy S24's blue variant, and it looks absolutely fire. Apart from this, the rumours about its slimness are also turning out to be true — or at least if the leaks are to be believed. The phone looks astonishingly slim against the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and it will reportedly measure between 3.9mm and 4.5mm in thickness when unfolded. For perspective, the OPPO Find N5 is currently the thinnest foldable, with a 4.2mm thickness when unfolded. Will the Fold 7 beat it? We'll find out soon. Galaxy Z Fold 7 / Credit: Android Headlines advertisement In terms of weight, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to weigh 215 grams — making it 24 grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and about 14 grams lighter than the OPPO Find N5. To give you a sense, the Galaxy S25 Ultra weighs 218 grams. So, if you've ever held one of those, you may get somewhat of an idea of how the Fold 7 might feel in the from this, other leaks suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will feature a 6.5-inch cover display along with an 8.2-inch inner display. It is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and is rumoured to come with a triple-rear camera system, led by a 200-megapixel primary to the Galaxy Z Flip 7 — this one is about to get sleeker than ever. Again, not that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 was bulky or anything, but looking at the renders and when you see the Galaxy Z Flip 7 next to the Flip 6, it's hard not to notice how the upcoming model is substantially slimmer. We also expect it to be lighter than the previous model. For context, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 measures 6.9mm when unfolded and weighs 187 grams. Galaxy Z Flip 7 (left) and Galaxy Z Flip 6 (right) / Credit: Android Headlines Other than this, the renders also confirm an earlier leak about the Galaxy Z Flip 7 getting a larger cover screen. This is rumoured to be 4 inches in size, compared to the 3.4-inch cover screen on the Flip 6. Also, similar to the Fold, the renders show the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in the Blue Shadow and Jet Black colourways. Galaxy Z Flip 7 / Credit: Android Headlines Other rumours suggest a Snapdragon 8 Elite or the Exynos 2500 chip under the hood, paired with a 4,000mAh battery and at least 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The camera setup is also expected to remain the same as the older Flip 6 — i.e. a 50-megapixel primary sensor paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, along with a 10-megapixel front camera for selfies and video said — while the renders and leaks share a lot of information about Samsung's foldables, and as we said, leave very little to the imagination — these are, at the end of the day, just leaks. Until Samsung makes anything official, we'd suggest you take all the information with a huge grain of is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 during the Unpacked event, rumoured to take place on July 9. Other devices expected at the event include the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE — the company's first-ever Fan Edition foldable phone, the Galaxy G Fold — Samsung's heavily rumoured triple-fold phone, along with the Galaxy Watch 8 series, including the Watch 8, Watch 8 Classic and Watch Ultra tuned to India Today Tech for all the latest on Samsung's upcoming foldable smartphones and the Galaxy Unpacked event.

I've reviewed phones for 10 years. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 may be the first foldable I actually buy
Lanh Nguyen / Android Authority It's been just under six years since the first Galaxy Fold launched, and in the time since then, foldable phones have become among the most interesting in the Android world. I've personally tested and reviewed many of them, including models from Samsung, Google, OnePlus, and others. But as much as I appreciate what foldables offer, and as someone who's been reviewing phones for 10 years, I've yet to actually purchase one for myself. Why? One of the main things that's kept me away is the hardware. Foldable phones have gotten significantly thinner and lighter since the first Galaxy Fold, but many of them are still bulkier than what I'm comfortable carrying every day. However, that may soon change. The latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 leak showcases a Samsung foldable that seems unbelievably thin. If the leak is accurate, the Fold 7 may be the first folding phone I finally spend my money on. Based on the leaks so far, do you plan on buying the Galaxy Z Fold 7? 0 votes Yes NaN % No NaN % Why the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may push me over the edge Android Headlines Android Authority Multiple leaks have now suggested that Samsung is cooking up an ultra-thin design for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, with Samsung itself even teasing the design in some recent press releases. But it wasn't until yesterday's leak from OnLeaks that we got our first good glimpse of what this thin design will look like — and it's nothing short of impressive. While the exact numbers are still up in the air, previous leaks have suggested that the Fold 7 could be as thin as 4.54mm or even 3.9mm when unfolded and approximately 9.0mm thick when folded shut. For comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 measures 5.6mm when unfolded and 12.1mm when folded. Android Headlines Galaxy Z Fold 7 (top) and Galaxy Z Fold 6. Those numbers have been floating around for a while now, and while they certainly sound impressive, it's different to see with your eyes the difference those millimeters make. Looking at the Z Fold 7 next to the Z Fold 6, it's hard to believe this year's Samsung foldable may actually look like this. It looks like a phone I could carry every day without issue. One I could easily slip into my pocket, use one-handed, etc. I've not felt that way about any other US folding phone to date, and it's exciting to see Samsung might get there with the Fold 7. Of course, Samsung won't be the first company to release a super-thin folding phone. OPPO launched the Find N5 earlier this year with a shockingly thin body at just 4.21mm when unfolded. And last September, the HONOR Magic V3 debuted with an equally impressive 4.4mm unfolded design. Paul Jones / Android Authority OPPO Find N5 I admire what OPPO and HONOR have done with those phones, and I say that as someone who used (and fell in love with) the Magic V3 last year. But there's a big issue with both phones: they aren't suitable for the US market. Not only are the phones not sold here, but even if you go through the trouble of importing one, you'd still have to deal with lacking carrier bands, unoptimized software, no warranty support, and so on. OPPO and HONOR's hardware is exactly what I want out of a foldable, but neither one is a realistic purchase. The Z Fold 7 will be the first super-thin foldable that makes sense to buy if you live in the US. That's precisely why the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is so exciting. It won't be the first foldable phone with a ridiculously thin design, but it will be the first one that makes sense to buy if you live in the US. It'll work with your carrier's 5G network, it'll have software that's fully optimized for the North American market, and should something go wrong, you'll have warranty and insurance options to get it fixed. Those are all things that other US foldables (like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold) already have going for them, but again, I come back to the hardware issue. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is shaping up to deliver the benefits of an established US folding phone while also offering the thin design I've been waiting for — and it may be a combination that's too powerful to ignore. Will 2025 be the year I finally buy a foldable? Lanh Nguyen / Android Authority A powerful combination indeed, but will it be enough to push me to buy my first folding phone? It's certainly getting close, though I'm not 100% sold quite yet. While Samsung's design for the Z Fold 7 seems like a surefire winner, some of the rumored specs still leave me uncertain. The new 200MP primary camera appears to be all but guaranteed, but it seems equally likely we'll be stuck with the same (and aging) 12MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto cameras. I'm also nervous about the battery, which is speculated to remain at just 4,400mAh. Even with the impressive hardware, will I be OK with middling secondary cameras and such a disappointing battery capacity? For a phone that's likely to cost $1,900? I'm not so sure. It's by no means a guarantee that I'll buy the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but this new look at its design does have me seriously thinking about it in a way I wasn't previously. I hope Samsung outfits the rest of the phone with the specs it deserves, because if so, 2025 may finally be the year I purchase my first foldable. Just don't tell my wallet.
