Teacher-student ratio to be ensured in every school: Yogi
Lucknow, May 26 (UNI) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday described basic education as the foundation of a society and nation, emphasising the ratio of teacher and student will be maintained in every school under all circumstances, there will be sufficient teachers in every school to provide quality education to the children.
At a grand event organised by the Basic Education Council at Lok Bhawan auditorium, the CM launched projects worth Rs 3,300 crore. He praised the remarkable transformations in education over the past eight years and outlined a new model for the Basic Education Council's future operations.
He said initiatives like Operation Kayakalp, CM Composite Schools and Nipun Assessment are helping Uttar Pradesh script history in the field of education. He also inaugurated newly constructed buildings and additional dormitories at 139 upgraded Kasturba Gandhi Girls Schools.
Besides, Yogi laid the foundation stone for 43 Chief Minister Model Composite Schools and 66 Mukhyamantri Abhyudaya Composite Schools. He transferred Rs 1,200 per student to the bank accounts of their guardians via DBT for the purchase of uniforms, sweaters, school bags, shoes, socks and stationery.
Addressing the event, Yogi recalled that before 2017, the Basic Education Council's schools were plagued by dilapidated infrastructure, neglect and disorder, with low student enrollment and high dropout rates.
Highlighting the impact of Operation Kayakalp, he said that it has significantly transformed the state's educational landscape. "Nearly all schools have joined the initiative and the remaining 2–3 percent will be covered this year," he said.
The CM said that facilities such as toilets, drinking water, playgrounds, smart classes and digital libraries are now available in these schools, resulting in student enrollment reaching between 800 to 1,200. "This represents a new education model that offers both quality education and holistic development for students," he said.
Reaffirming the government's commitment to teacher availability, he said that the teacher-student ratio will be maintained under all circumstances. "Every school will have an adequate number of teachers to ensure quality education for every child," he said.
He also proposed involving BEd and MEd students in the Nipun Assessment Programme to give them field experience and familiarise them with modern educational tools like smart classes and digital libraries. "This would enhance their practical skills and further improve the quality of education," he said.
The CM emphasised the importance of the summer camp as a platform for the holistic development of children. He directed that activities such as sports, music, dance, drama and yoga should be included in the camp.
He directed schools to begin preparations for International Yoga Day on June 21, ensuring the implementation of the yoga protocol prescribed by the Ministry of AYUSH. He encouraged promoting indoor activities that help alleviate stress among children.
Yogi announced plans to organise school-level sports and cultural competitions at the block, district, division and state levels in November-December, aimed at enhancing children's talents.
He revealed the establishment of one Chief Minister Composite School in each assembly constituency. "These schools, with an investment of Rs 25-30 crore, will offer a complete educational experience from pre-primary to senior secondary within a single campus," he said.
He said, "Equipped with science and computer labs, a stadium, and a multipurpose hall, these schools will serve as a new model for education. They will be developed in the style of Atal Residential Schools, providing all essential facilities under one roof."
Praising the initiative to provide Rs 1,200 per student for uniforms, bags, shoes, socks and stationery through DBT, the CM highlighted that this amount is directly transferred to the children's accounts. He urged parents and teachers to ensure the funds are spent solely on the children's needs.
On accelerating the School Chalo Abhiyan, he directed teachers and principals to visit homes and enroll children aged 5-14 years in school. He stressed that no child in any village should be left out of education. He also urged schools to welcome new students with enthusiasm, including integrating cleanliness drives into the school system.
Yogi appealed to teachers to take their role in nation-building seriously. "A teacher's true respect lies in the success and values of the students they nurture. Make every moment count, time waits for no one," he said.
He said that UP has become a centre of innovation in basic education, fostering a bright future for its children.
He inaugurated several educational initiatives under the Basic Education Council, including smart classes in 7,409 schools, ICT labs in 5,258 schools and the distribution of 51,667 tablets to teachers.
He also launched digital libraries in 503 PM SHRI schools, an educational broadcast studio at the State Educational Technical Institute and the Nipun Plus app for smart assessment of students from Class 3 to 12.
Besides, the CM introduced the summer camp innovation in all upper primary and composite schools run by the council. He felicitated five teachers who excelled in the Nipun assessment and released the books 'Sarathi' and 'Anurupan' by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).

A provision of grants up to Rs 10 lakh has also been made to promote research in the field of yoga, meditation and naturopathy in the state. With the inspiration of the Prime Minister, the state government has implemented the country's first Yoga Policy 2025 in the state. The Chief Minister further stated that the state government is determined to establish five new yoga hubs in the state by 2030 and by March 2026, the availability of yoga services will also be ensured in all AYUSH Health and Wellness Centers in the state. The CM also planted an apple tree in the Vidhan Sabha premises under the 'Ek Vriksha Yoga ke Naam' program. During this, the Chief Minister announced that the state government would soon establish one Spiritual Economic Zone each in Garhwal and Kumaon divisions to promote Ayurvedic and Naturopathy, Yoga and Spiritual Tourism in the state. He further stated that two new towns would be established in the hilly areas of the state, which would establish the special identity of the state on the global map by becoming the center of Yoga, Ayurveda and Spirituality. The jail can accommodate 500 prisoners, 352 male and 138 female, separately. On the other hand, the district jail at Mushlapur, Baksa, was constructed for Rs 53.86 crore and has a capacity for 500 inmates, including standard administrative and inmate facilities. Speaking at the inaugural function held at Kajolgaon in Chirang, Chief Minister Sarma said that Chirang, though a full-fledged district, somehow lacks necessary infrastructural facilities.' However, as a result of joint initiatives by the state government and the BTC administration, the district is being empowered with much-needed infrastructure facilities. Within a very short time, construction work for the Chirang district stadium will get underway,' the CM said. He also said that the Upendra Nath Brahma garden being built in Chirang with a financial outlay of Rs 8 crore, once completed, will increase the beauty of Chirang. He said that the Gelephu Mindfulness City in Bhutan has created several possibilities in Chirang. Considering this development, the State government has undertaken several development works to empower the Chirang district socially and economically. The new road project will facilitate smooth movement from Chirang to Gelephu, and the rail line from Gelephu to Kokrajhar will touch Chirang, which will definitely expedite the economic development of the district,' he said. Telangana Dy CM Bhatti Vikramarka announces 2 per cent DA hike for power employees
HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday announced a nearly 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for Power department employees. He said the state government, giving priority to employee welfare, has decided to enhance the DA by 1.944% for power employees and pensioners. The revised DA will benefit 71,417 employees and pensioners across the state. The DA has been raised from 14.074% to 16.018%, with retrospective effect from January this year. The revision will impose an additional monthly burden of Rs 11.193 crore on power utilities. Addressing employees of the power department at Praja Bhavan, the deputy chief minister said the revised DA would also apply to artisans, along with power employees and pensioners. 'Telangana should emerge as a guiding force in the power sector for the entire country. The state government is moving ahead with a well-structured strategy to achieve this. Electricity has become as essential to industrial production in today's competitive world as air is to life,' he said. Peak power demand Referring to demand trends, Vikramarka pointed out that in March 2023, when the BRS was in power, the peak power demand stood at 15,000 MW. 'After the Congress assumed office in December 2023, the demand rose to 17,162 MW by March 2025, an increase of over 2,000 MW. Despite this rise, the government and power employees had ensured uninterrupted and quality power supply,' he said. Vikramarka said the state anticipates a further steep rise in demand. Citing a report by a central agency, he stated that Telangana's peak power demand is projected to reach 26,299 MW by 2029–30 and 33,773 MW by 2034–35. The deputy chief minister added that the government was planning ahead to boost power generation capacity to meet these future requirements. He said that following the formation of the Congress government, the Green Energy Policy-2025 had been introduced, targeting the production of 20,000 MW of green power by 2029-30. He urged the power sector workforce to be prepared to face future challenges and reiterated that the government and employees together formed an ideal working partnership.
