'We paid £85 to see Lilo and Stitch - what we saw before film horrified us'
While waiting for kids' blockbuster Lilo & Stitch to start at Cineworld in Enfield, four-year-old Max and his five-year-old brother Bertie were left "traumatised" when trailers for two horror movies were shown
Two young kids were left "traumatised" after being forced to watch two horror film trailers before a screening of Lilo & Stitch, their furious mum has said.
Jenny Ellice, 43, and husband Robert took their two boys, Max, four, and Bertie, five to watch the kids' favourite at the Enfield branch of Cineworld on June 7.
The family splashed out £85 for the 4DX viewing option - which Cineworld says delivers "an extreme sensory experience". Usually, cinemas ensure the trailers they play are appropriate for the age of the viewers of the main film.
Rather than showing PG-rated films, the cinema showed PG-13 trailers. One was Jurassic World Rebirth, while the other two were horrors, including M3GAN 2.0, which is about a murderous robot.
Her boys were fine with Jurassic World, but the two horror adverts left the youngsters "terrified" and "rigid with fear".
They left minutes later because her children were too scared to stay and watch Lilo & Stitch. Staff apologised for the mistake and offered free tickets, but Jenny says it doesn't go far enough.
The TV journalist from Epping, Essex, said: "Max has been waking up screaming and Rob said to his teacher yesterday that he was scared from the cinema.
"But you just don't know with kids, they're like sponges, you think they're not listening, but they are.
"They were pretty graphic trailers. There was swearing and screaming in them - my eldest was rigid with fear. I had my hands over their eyes.
"I had no idea why they were showing these trailers for a U movie - these are four-year-olds exposed to graphic swearing and violence. They were terrified."
Jenny says it's "lucky" that they were the only ones in the 10:10 screening of the film.
She added: "We were the only ones who went into the 4CX showing. We got popcorn and drinks, and they were so excited. They were all happy with their 3D glasses. The ads were on and then it goes into age-appropriate trailers for the film.
"The first one was Jurassic World, and I thought that seems a bit off, but I thought it could be a PG film like Lilo & Stitch. The seats move really violently and my boys like dinosaurs so it's fine. The next one was Megan, and I was sure that wasn't a PG - it got really graphic really quickly. It's like those Chuckie movies."
Jenny reached out to Cineworld on Instagram but was told after the offer of free tickets, her complaint couldn't go any further. She has now instructed her solicitors to take further action.
She said: "Max hasn't even started school yet, with a big corporation this shouldn't be happening. If they had just put me in touch with someone from head office then it would show they care.
"We have sent a letter from our solicitors who will likely be making a complaint to Enfield council and the film licensing/rating body.
"I want to ensure this never happens again as the cinema are not taking it seriously at all. Had the cinema had the decency to speak to me about it I probably wouldn't have taken legal action, but they have treated my complaint as more of an annoyance.
"Children at that age are like sponges and so impressionable, even just the noises of violence can leave a lasting impression and it's just not something two young children, especially one of pre-school age should ever be exposed to."

He replied: "I can't talk about it," before being swiftly ushered away by his entourage. The Sun revealed in March that Aarron had been formerly offered the role and James Bond bosses were waiting for his decision. We also first revealed in 2022 that the Marvel actor had emerged as a surprise frontrunner. Aaron made a name for himself in 2010's Kick-Ass. He then landed the role of Quicksilver in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Eon Productions, which makes the spy thriller films, is on course to start shooting this year. A source said: 'Bond is Aaron's job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back. 'As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.' The next Bond movie had been delayed because of last year's Hollywood strikes. James Bond expert drops huge hint about new 007 actor after he starred in movie with huge A-list actress But insiders confirmed a script was now being worked on, with production scheduled to take place at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. Aaron was in the running for the top job alongside actors including Oscar-winning Cillian Murphy, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill and James Norton. Speculation intensified in May when Aaron signed a deal with luxury watchmaker Omega - the official timepiece brand of the Bond franchise for three decades. Aaron, who is from High Wycombe, Bucks, secretly screen tested for Bond movie supremo Barbara Broccoli at Pinewood Studios in 2022. When asked earlier this year whether he would step into Bond's shoes, Aaron said: 'I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. "I take it as a great compliment.' Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey was also questioned about the iconic role this week. Jonathan joined Scott Mills on Radio 2 to celebrate the release of the Jurassic World Rebirth film, which stars the actor. And they ended up discussing rumours that Jonathan is a contender to be the next James Bond. Scott said to the star: 'It's an obvious question, but I'm going to be honest with you, it's the one people are asking the most, so I'm going to ask it. Do you, or would you be, James Bond?' Jonathan playfully replied with: 'Scott, how dare you!' to which Scott clarified: 'It's not me, it's the listeners and there are thousands.' The actor managed to somehow sidestep the question, responding: 'I mean, that's an amazingly flattering ask. I could imagine you as James Bond, Scott.' And Scott was quick to pick up on the change of direction, saying: 'Well, swerved, because that's not true. But, I mean, we know you could do it, but you'd want to do it?' Jonathan seemed to be more open to replying, as he said: 'I don't...I am not sure... I don't know. I really, honestly, I mean... it would be hard to say no, but I know that it's going to be exciting whatever they do.' Leaving Scott to reply: 'Thank you for answering that, because it was the most popular question. And I'll be honest, I almost ran away from you a bit like you did with Steven Spielberg, before I asked, but I'm glad I did. Thank you very much.' 6 Aaron and Brad Pitt starred together in 2022's Bullet Train Credit: Rex Features 6 He then landed the role of Quicksilver in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Credit: Rex Features

Steven Spielberg was ‘deeply involved' in Jurassic World: Rebirth
Steven Spielberg was 'deeply involved' in Jurassic World: Rebirth The 78-year-old director helmed the original 1993 film Jurassic Park Steven Spielberg (Image: Mike Marsland/WireImage ) Jurassic World: Rebirth writer David Koepp has said Steven Spielberg was "deeply involved" in making the movie. The 78-year-old director helmed the original 1993 film Jurassic Park, its 1997 sequel The Lost Work: Jurassic Park and has served as an executive producer on the Jurassic World series ever since, and Koepp - who wrote the first movie and its follow-up - revealed one of the main reasons he returned for Jurassic World: Rebirth was because Spielberg was "very involved" in it. Speaking to Deadline about Spielberg, the 62-year-old scribe said: "Oh, he was very involved. "That was one of the reasons I most wanted to do it. Because Steven was deeply involved from the beginning, and for the six months that we were working on the script, it was really just him and me. "I'd send him my ideas, and we'd work on them, and when you have Steven's full attention, the results can be pretty spectacular." Jurassic World: Rebirth - which stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali - follows a team of covert operatives on a mission to stop a rogue biotech organisation from unleashing weaponised dinosaurs around the world. Article continues below As the chaos escalates, the team uncovers a dark secret connected to the original Jurassic legacy. Koepp previously said Jurassic World: Rebirth - which was directed by Gareth Edwards and releases on 2 July 2025 - would capture the "spirit of the first movie". He told TheWrap: "[We were trying to evoke] the spirit of the first movie, which is the tone that we would like to get closest to." The writer added it was "the idea of starting afresh" which convinced him to return to the Jurassic series. He said: "You don't often get that chance, where they give you very few guidelines, except there must be dinosaurs in it." Even so, before he agreed to come back for Jurassic World: Rebirth, Koepp had a list of demands he gave to Universal Pictures that the studio had to meet. He explained: "Number one was – the events of the previous six movies cannot be denied or contradicted, because I hate a retcon. "[Number two was] all science must be real. [Third was] humour is oxygen." Reflecting on returning to the Jurassic series, Koepp said it was "weird and trippy" for him to step back in time for Jurassic World: Rebirth. He explained: "It even smelled the same. It felt low pressure, even though Universal might be horrified to hear that." Looking back at Jurassic Park and The Lost World, Koepp said "writing those first two movies were some of [his] favourite experiences in [his] career so far". He added: "The combination of grand adventure and real science is right up my alley. And it was fun to be able to decide on a new tone, because every three movies seems like a good time to change tone and characters in a franchise. Article continues below "It was great to be able to work solely with Steven and make up a story and think of all new characters and all in a different tone."
