'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' kicks off in Delhi
New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): A new edition of the 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' initiative began on Sunday at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in the national capital, drawing fitness enthusiasts from across the city to promote cycling as a step towards a healthier lifestyle.
The Physical Education Foundation of India (PEFI) participated in the programme as a special partner.
Speaking at the event, a participant said, 'Fit India is a good scheme of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Every person, irrespective of age, should be fit. There is nothing without fitness. If you can give a little time to this fitness campaign, you can stay fit.'
The cycling drive will be organised simultaneously across more than 500 locations in India on June 15, including the capitals of all States and Union Territories, SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India centres (KICs), with a probable participation of 15,000-plus citizens across various age groups.
Started by Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Mansukh Mandaviya in December 2024, the 'FIT India Sundays on Cycle' movement has been organised in more than 10,000 locations across the country till now with the participation of more than 3.5 lakh individuals.
Previously, the cycling event witnessed participation of Indian Army jawans, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Indian Railways and prominent sports stars like Lovlina Borgohain, Sangram Singh, Shanky Singh, Nitu Ghanghas, Saweety Boora, Paris Paralympics medallists Nitesh Kumar, Manisha Ramadass, Rubina Francis and Simran Sharma (para world champion) apart from celebrities like Rahul Bose, Amit Sial, Sharvari Wagh, Madhurima Tuli and Gul Panag, to name a few.
The 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), My Bikes and MY Bharat. (ANI)

Leeds [UK] June 21 (ANI): India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed his admiration for newly-appointed Test captain Shubman Gill following their crucial 129-run partnership on Day 1 of the first Test against England at Headingley. Jaiswal, who smashed a fluent 101 off 159 balls, lauded Gill's calmness and composure at the crease, describing their time together in the middle as "amazing." Praising the partnership and the leadership on display, Jaiswal added, "We really enjoyed together. There was amazing camaraderie between us. So, it was amazing to bat with him and he batted really well. The way he has been very calm and composed... I loved batting with him and enjoying under him as well." The young opener's knock, studded with sixteen boundaries and a six, was instrumental in giving India early control of the match. With Gill and vice-captain Rishabh Pant (65*) still at the crease, India will look to build on the strong platform on Day 2 as they finished Day 1 with 359/3. In the process, Gill crossed the 2,000-run milestone in Test cricket, while Pant breached the 3,000-run mark. England captain Ben Stokes, who managed to break through, finishing with 2/43. The only other English success came via Brydon Carse, who ended with figures of 1/70. India's 359-run effort surpassed their previous best opening-day score in England, 338/7 at Edgbaston in 2022. Paralympic Committee of India unveils logo, mascot for New Delhi World Para Athletics Championship
New Delhi [India], June 20 (ANI): The logo and mascot for the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships was launched here on Friday along with the launch of the '100 Days to Go' countdown. The event was hosted by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI). A PCI release said that the newly-revealed mascot named Viraaj is a spirited young elephant with a blade prosthesis is a tribute to strength, optimism, and resilience, while the logo captures India's rich heritage, the spirit of para athletics, and the vibrancy of New Delhi as host city. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA and Chief Patron of PCI, actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut and Delhi Minister Ashish Sood were among those present. The Chief Minister said that the national capital is honoured to host a global event that celebrates courage, ability, and human potential. 'The logo and mascot beautifully reflect the soul of India and the power of para sport. We will ensure that New Delhi 2025 becomes a landmark for inclusivity and excellence,' she said. Kangana Ranaut, MP, who is Brand Ambassador Of World Para Athletics Championships '25 said she is proud to be part of the event. 'It's not just a mascot -- it's a message. A message of confidence, strength, and representation. I am proud to be part of an event that celebrates those who inspire us with their resilience,' she said. Vanathi Srinivasan said this unveiling is a visual and emotional celebration of our para athletes. 'These next 100 days will bring India closer to history as we prepare to host the world with pride and purpose.' Paul Fitzgerald, Head of World Para Athletics said ew Delhi 2025 is shaping up to be one of the most engaging and inclusive championships ever. 'We are inspired by PCI's vision and India's energy -- and we look forward.' Devendra Jhajharia, President, PCI said the logo and mascot reflect the spirit of every para athlete -- proud, powerful, and full of possibility. 'We thank our dignitaries and the people of India as we enter the final stretch toward New Delhi 2025,' he said. The New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships, scheduled for October 2025, will welcome participants from over 100 countries, making it the largest-ever para athletics event hosted in India. Leeds [UK], June 21 (ANI): England bowling coach Tim Southee praised the depth and quality of the Indian Test side after a commanding performance by the visitors on Day 1 of the first Test against England at Headingley. India ended the day at a formidable 359/3, thanks to standout performances from captain Shubman Gill, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, and vice-captain Rishabh Pant. 'I think the class of Indian side, no matter how many games they have played, is always going to be pretty good. They're certainly talented cricketers,' Southee said. He reserved special praise for Jaiswal and Gill, both of whom played pivotal roles in setting the tone for India. 'You look at Jaiswal, who's early on in his career he's had a tremendous start to his Test career. And Shubman Gill, in his first Test match as captain, played a great knock as well,' Southee added. 'I think the Indian openers sort of negotiated the first hour reasonably well, KL Rahul left balls well, and Yashasvi Jaiswal played his hand as well throughout,' he added. Southee also praised England test skipper Ben Stokes, citing him as the X-factor for his team. 'He's (Ben Stokes) a real X-Factor player, and we saw that today with a couple of breakthroughs that he was able to make and I guess when he's doing that, it's tough to get the ball out of his hand,' Tim Southee added.
