'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' kicks off in Delhi
New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): A new edition of the 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' initiative began on Sunday at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in the national capital, drawing fitness enthusiasts from across the city to promote cycling as a step towards a healthier lifestyle. The Physical Education Foundation of India (PEFI) participated in the programme as a special partner. Speaking at the event, a participant said, 'Fit India is a good scheme of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Every person, irrespective of age, should be fit. There is nothing without fitness. If you can give a little time to this fitness campaign, you can stay fit.' The cycling drive will be organised simultaneously across more than 500 locations in India on June 15, including the capitals of all States and Union Territories, SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India centres (KICs), with a probable participation of 15,000-plus citizens across various age groups. Started by Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Mansukh Mandaviya in December 2024, the 'FIT India Sundays on Cycle' movement has been organised in more than 10,000 locations across the country till now with the participation of more than 3.5 lakh individuals. Previously, the cycling event witnessed participation of Indian Army jawans, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Indian Railways and prominent sports stars like Lovlina Borgohain, Sangram Singh, Shanky Singh, Nitu Ghanghas, Saweety Boora, Paris Paralympics medallists Nitesh Kumar, Manisha Ramadass, Rubina Francis and Simran Sharma (para world champion) apart from celebrities like Rahul Bose, Amit Sial, Sharvari Wagh, Madhurima Tuli and Gul Panag, to name a few. The 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), My Bikes and MY Bharat. (ANI)

Fit India Sundays on Cycle organised in collaboration with Indian Railways; Actress Madhurima Tuli honoured as Fit India icon
New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): A sea of 1000 cyclists and fitness enthusiasts created a lively atmosphere at the JLN Stadium here on Sunday morning in the 26th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle. Organised in collaboration with Indian Railways as special partners, the event saw the presence of Indian actress Madhurima Tuli, wrestler Anirudh Kumar, and mountaineer Narender Kumar, among the special guests. Madhurima Tuli, who has starred in the Bollywood movie 'Baby' opposite Akshay Kumar, was formally recognised as a Fit India Icon on the occasion by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. She has been a state-level track and field athlete as well as a hurdles race runner. Expressing her gratitude, Madhurima said, as quoted by the SAI Media press release, 'I feel honoured to be here. Cycling has been my childhood hobby. Our Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya have rightly spoken about the dangers of obesity--it brings many diseases. Cycling is affordable, liberating, and keeps you mentally fit too.' With Indian Railways serving as special partners, this edition marked a significant expansion of outreach and participation with railway officials and sportspersons associated with the railways also present in large numbers. These cycling drives were conducted by several Khelo India Centres (KICs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIAAs), Regional Centres (RCs), National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs) and more than 2600 cycling clubs all across the country, who roped in railways employees, officials and staff to make the event a resounding success on Sunday. The activities stretched from Alwar to Tinsukia and Kurukshetra to Bolpur. The fitness activities which included Zumba, yoga and rope skipping were guided by My Bharat, Rope skipping federation of India and Yogasana Bharat. Wrestler Anirudh Kumar, who won the gold at the 2024 U23 & U17 Asian Championships, called the initiative very important for the youth of the country. 'I've had a long relationship with cycling since childhood. It improves stamina, power, and helps with fat loss. It's great to see so many young faces today embracing fitness,' Anirudh said. Mountaineer Narender Kumar, who is now preparing for his upcoming expedition to Mount Elbrus--Europe's highest peak--hailed the movement as a transformative national force. 'The clarion call of PM Narendra Modi ji has reached every corner of India. It's heartening to see the youth join in, away from distractions and addictions. The love and energy of young Indians are taking this movement forward,' he mentioned. The Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative, launched in December 2024, has already touched more than 3.5 lakh citizens across 10,000+ locations nationwide. It started with 150-odd cyclists and the participation figure has grown by leaps in a span of six months. Credit for this huge surge goes to partners such as the CISF, Armed Forces, Indian Medical Association, Journalist Associations, Teachers, Corporates, Celebrities and myriad professionals from several walks of life. Telangana Runners Association organises inaugural edition of 'Telangana Run 2025'
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 8 (ANI): The inaugural edition of 'Telangana Run 2025' was organised in Hyderabad by the Telangana Runners' Association to promote fitness. Race Director of Telangana Runners Association Dr. Soma Jagan Mohan Reddy said, 'This is the first time we are organising Telangana run.... This is the first time we are using the state's name instead of the city's name. This run is organised to promote running throughout the state'. Participant RVS Reddy said, '...This effort is a stupendous effort brought up by these people... The way we live today, we mould our lifestyles to become very lethargic and unmoving. The active part of life has gone, and the daily exercises have gone. The major aim of this effort is to bring that active part of life to the people and make them active. Earlier today, the Indian Railways, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, flagged off the 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' initiative from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on Sunday. The initiative aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among to mediapersons at the event, Actress Madhurima Tuli spoke about her experience and stated, 'I am proud that I have been a part of this movement. 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' is very important because sports are essential for our mental and physical fitness. This is a very good initiative by our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The Fit India initiative needs to be spread across the world...'The event saw participation from fitness enthusiasts, officials, and celebrities who cycled alongside hundreds of participants to support the under the umbrella of the Fit India Movement--a nationwide campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage fitness in daily life--the event marked another milestone in India's growing culture of fitness awareness. Earlier, on June 1, the 25th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle was celebrated as the Tiranga Cycling Rally across various parts of the than 15,000 cyclists from over 5,000 locations took part, highlighting a powerful blend of patriotism, fitness, and environmental consciousness, according to a press release by the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Participating in 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' with Indian Railways flagged off from Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, actor Madhurima Tuli said, 'I just participated in today's 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle', which is an excellent initiative... It is essential to spread awareness across the world of how important it is for us to stay fit. There can be no better option than cycling because it is also affordable...' 'I am proud that I have been a part of this movement. 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' is very important because sports are essential for our mental and physical fitness. Since its inception in December 2024, the Sundays on Cycle initiative has witnessed phenomenal reach--having touched over 5,500 locations and seeing participation from more than 3 lakh citizens. The movement has also garnered over 3.44 billion digital impressions, with support pouring in from icons like Sania Mirza, Milind Soman, Emraan Hashmi, John Abraham, Imtiaz Ali, Shankar Mahadevan, and the legendary Dara Singh, among others. Several Sports Authority of India (SAI) centres as well as Khelo India Centres (KICs) feature community-focused fitness activities such as Zumba, rope-skipping, guided yoga sessions, and free health check-ups by experts from the National Centre of Sports Sciences and Research (NCSSR) during the Sundays on Cycle events. As per an official statement from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, with World Bicycle Day scheduled for June 3, today's event will not only reinforce the message of cycling's big role in fitness but also serve as a collective tribute to India's armed forces. The event was part of a nationwide tribute to India's armed forces and marked the 25th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle The 25th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle was celebrated in various parts of the country on Sunday morning as Tiranga Cycling Rally. In Delhi, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya led over 1,500 cyclists at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. He was accompanied by actress Sharvari, Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt , cricketer Saba Karim, and wrestler Sarita Mor. Held ahead of World Bicycle Day (June 3), the event paid tribute to the armed forces. Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt. Olympian and wrestling champion Yogeshwar Dutt called the initiative 'a movement that links national health with national pride'. He remarked, 'Young kids, senior citizens, all are participating – that's the power of this campaign. '
