Home Bargains shoppers can make the most of the weekend sunshine and invest in some water fun with the kids that should last all summer long. Most are massively discounted from the usual price, but people are clearing the shelves ahead of the heatwave.
The huge Bestway Fantastic Aquarium Play Centre comes complete with a built-in slide, colourful inflatable sea creature toys, and a palm tree that, when connected to a garden hose, gently sprays kids with a cooling shower during playtime.

Typically valued at £74.99, Home Bargains has slashed the RRP of this fun-looking paddling pool down to just £24.99, saving shoppers almost £50 on a major purchase.

On Instagram, a spokesperson wrote: "It's gettin' hot out here so grab a pool and chill like a pro! We've got plenty in store ready to cool you down!"
Plenty of shoppers shared their opinions of the 239cm paddling pool with a lot to keep little ones cool and entertained this summer. One penned: "Perfect for this weather! Another added: "We need this badly! Looks so fun!"
A third chimed in: "Bought the first one my little boy loves it great value for money." Someone else put: "It's huge! The little ones love it."
More pools were given a spotlight on the Instagram post, such as the Family Lounge Pool (worth £29.99, sold for £12.99) which comes with two seats and cupholders.

Shoppers also saw the bigger Avenli 10ft Pool (£34.99) as well as other fun garden items like water slides (£8.99), a standalone sprinkler palm tree (£7.99) and a rainbow arch sprinkler (£9.99).
The Met Office has confirmed that Brits can expect heatwave conditions to be met ahead of the weekend. Highs of 34°C are forecast in parts of England, with similar temperatures predicted across Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland too.
As well as increasing temperatures, high pollen levels will bring challenges for hay fever sufferers and UV levels will also be high, increasing the chance of sunburn.

It is important that, if you are in an area that is particularly sunny over the next few days, you take steps to ensure that you and your family are protected from these increased UV levels.
Yinka Ebo, Senior Health Information Officer at Cancer Research UK said: "It's great to have such lovely weather, and we all need some sun to keep us healthy, but it's important to stay safe when the sun is strong and take care not to burn.
"In many cases sunburn actually happens in the UK, often when people are out and about. The sun's rays can be strong enough to burn in the UK from around April to September.
"You can protect yourself and your family from sunburn by using a combination of shade, clothing and at least SPF 15 sunscreen when enjoying the sunshine."
The NHS has plenty of advice on its website about sun safety. It details how to strike a balance between protecting yourself from the sun and getting enough vitamin D from sunlight.

The rest of the nation will see similar but not quite as unbearable extremes between 18C and 28C, with no sign of rain until the following week. The UK's largest water provider has warned its customers about the prolonged heat, with millions of people having now received an urgent notice. ‌ ‌ Affinity Water recently sent its roughly 3.6 million customers a message telling them to help "make a real difference" over the coming days of the heatwave. The note, sent via email, asks customers to cut back on their water consumption, and to only run the tap for "essentials" as the heat puts a "real strain on the network". It states: "To make sure we can keep water flowing to you and your community, we're asking our customers to make a real difference over the next few days. "Please cut back where you can - delay or stop non-essential use and make every drop count. Please only use water for essentials like drinking, cooking and washing. The increase in water usage is putting a real strain on our network." Affinity Water supplies water primarily across the southeast to approximately 1.4 million homes and 78,000 "non-household connections". Regions under its supply chain include Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Surrey, and several London boroughs, including Harrow, Hillingdon, and parts of Barnet, Brent, Ealing, and Enfield. The network added in the email that residents of these areas are currently using water at an unsustainable rate that is "faster than we can pump it and store it". ‌ If usage stays high, the email adds, it could lead to a "no water situation". The note states: "That means your area could see lower water pressure or a no water situation if usage stays high." Affinity is far from the only water supply firm that has issued a warning to its customers, with the hot weather placing a strain on several other suppliers. United Utilities' north west water board has asked customers to save water where they can, with reservoirs in the north of England dropping more than 20 percent below average. Anglian Water has followed suit, telling customers to "use a little less". The company serves millions of customers across Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes, Norfolk, Lincolnshire and parts of Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and Essex.

Heatwaves declared across England and Wales with higher temperatures to come

Heatwaves have been triggered across England and Wales with even higher temperatures expected over the weekend. But Friday was not the warmest day of the year so far, with highs of 30.8C recorded in both nations, the Met Office confirmed. It comes as thunderstorms are threatening to hit large parts of northern England on Saturday. Temperatures could reach up to 34C in isolated areas of England, but rain, hail and lightning could be on their way, a Met Office spokesperson said. An official heatwave is recorded when areas reach a certain temperature for three consecutive days, with thresholds varying from 25C to 28C in different parts of the UK. 'Many places' in England and 'one or two areas' in Wales, including Cardiff, have now entered a heatwave following Friday's highest temperatures, Becky Mitchell, meteorologist at the Met Office, said. While the national record for this year was not broken, Friday was the hottest day of the year so far for Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. A yellow thunderstorm weather warning has been issued covering Nottingham up to above Newcastle, running from 3pm on Saturday until 4am on Sunday. The Met Office warned the most intense storms could produce 'frequent lightning, large hail and gusty winds', along with a chance of flooding. Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey said: 'There are scattered thunderstorms coming through. 'Some of the rain could be quite intense, and frequent lightning, hail, gusty winds and some heavy downpours, which we haven't seen for a while. 'You might find surface water on the roads, drains finding it difficult to cope and a small chance of homes being flooded.' Temperatures are predicted to peak on the western side of the country on Friday, as a 'more changeable, fresher feel' starts to come in. Ms Maxey said: 'Tomorrow, temperatures may continue to go up a little for the east and south-east area of the country, we might see them creep up to 33C, or even an isolated 34C, but we are going to see that change. 'In the west, tomorrow we should start to see more of this cloud come in, and we have a fresher air mass pushing in across the country.' Temperatures reached 32.2C in Kew, west London, on Thursday, amid an amber heat-health alert for all regions in England. The alert, issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) for the first time since September 2023, is in force until 9am on Monday. It warns 'significant impacts are likely' across health and social care services because of high temperatures, including a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over or people with health conditions. Following the hot weather, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has urged the public to take heat and water safety seriously. During 2022's heatwave, temperatures rose past 40C, leading to 320 people being treated in hospital. Steve Cole, policy director at RoSPA, said: 'Heat is no longer just a holiday perk — it's a growing public health risk. 'We're seeing more frequent and intense heatwaves, both in the UK and globally, and the data shows a clear rise in heat-related illness and fatalities. 'Warm weather can also be deceptive when it comes to going for a dip. 'While the air may feel hot, water temperatures often remain dangerously cold, which can lead to cold-water shock, even in summer.'

Wales Cardiff parade Events will be held across Cardiff this weekend as part of the annual Pride Cymru celebrations. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the first Pride march in Wales. More than 50,000 people are expected to attend a host of events and performances. Pride Cymru 2025, which champions the rights of LGBTQ+ people, includes a parade around parts of the capital, followed by a festival within Cardiff Castle. The organisers say it is a "powerful example of how inclusive celebration benefits the whole city". So, ahead of a busy weekend, here are five things you need to know. When and where is the parade? Events for Pride Cymru 2025 kick-off with a parade around Cardiff city centre. Tens of thousands of participants are expected to take part. The parade sets off from Westgate Street at 11:00am, weaving through the city centre and finishing at the Pride Cymru festival site at Cardiff Castle. Roads across the city, including Wood Street, Central Square, Park Street and the Hayes, will be closed between 11:00am and 2:30pm.
