Toledo Football Preview 2025: Another Year, Another Great Rocket Team
Toledo Football Preview 2025: Another Year, Another Great Rocket Team originally appeared on College Football News. Toledo and head coach Jason Candle have made success seem so routine. The ball got rolling under Matt Campbell, and that came after the end of the Tim Beckman era. Now, Toledo has gone the last 15 years without a losing season. Georgia can't make that claim. Neither can Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State, Texas, Oregon, LSU, and just about every other team you can think of. And that's what makes Toledo so maddening at times. It blew out Mississippi State 41-17 in Starkville last season, and lost to Akron. It didn't play for the MAC title, and it beat Pitt in the wackiest bowl game of the postseason. There are losses on both sides of the ball, and the offensive front has to be far better, but the schedule isn't bad, and no Power Four school has snatched up Candle yet, Ho hum, it'll be another great season of Toledo football. Toledo Rockets College Football Preview 2025 Sep 14, 2024; Starkville, Mississippi, USA; Toledo Rockets quarterback Tucker Gleason (4) looks to pass against the Mississippi State Bulldogs during the first quarter at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field.© Matt Bush-Imagn Images Toledo Rockets Preview 2025: Offense X CFN, Fiu | CFN Facebook | Bluesky Fiu, CFN - The offense had its worst full season since 2019, and it showed in the five losses. The Rockets were 8-0 when scoring more than 21 points, and 0-5 when scoring that many or fewer, including in a total clunker against Akron to close the regular season. - The quarterback situation is settled with Tucker Gleason back after throwing for over 4,000 yards with 36 touchdowns in the four years since coming over from Georgia Tech. He can run, too, ripping off 364 yards and seven scores last season. Advertisement - The Rockets hit the jackpot in the transfer portal, getting receiver Trayvon Rudolph (Northern Illinois) to take over as the No. 1 man. Junior Vandeross III is back in the slot after leading the team with 85 grabs, and Eric Holley is a decent outside threat who got his feet wet last year. The Rockets needed a new tight end with Anthony Torres done, and in comes Jacob Petersen (Holy Cross) after a 34-catch, six-touchdown 2024. - It's Toledo. The offensive line is supposed to be a plus. It was good last year in pass protection, but it didn't do much of anything against the run. All-MAC guard Ethan Spoth is back at one spot, veteran Carter Fouty is back at another guard job, along with sophomore tackle Cole Rhett. The O needs transfers Jonathan Harder (Cincinnati) and center Terrence Moore (Pitt) to be great right away and do more for ... - The running game - it wasn't good. It averaged just 3.45 yards per carry, but coming in to change that is former Arizona State-turned-Ohio State-turned-Kentucky back Chip Trayanum to handle the workload. Also coming in is Kenji Christian, a big back who started at Virginia Tech and ripped it up for North Carolina A&T before getting hurt last year. Toledo Rockets Preview 2025: Defense - For the most part, the defense was fine. It allowed fewer than 28 points nine times, had a good pass rush, and forced plenty of takeaways. If the offense can be a little better, and do a stronger job of controlling the clock, the D will be better, but ... Advertisement - The line has to replace Darius Alexander and Cavon Butler, and now the bulk is missing. There are veterans ready to step up, though, with Martez Ponyter and Esean Carter the key backups last season. Malachi Davis did a decent job in a rotation on the end, and Anthony Dunn was second on the team with four sacks. - The transfer portal is helping the linebacking corps. Langston Long (USF) is a quick option who should make plenty of tackles in the middle if he can stay healthy, and Louce Julien (UMass) made five sacks with 43 tackles last year in Amherst. - The secondary is the team's biggest strength. The corner combination of Avery Smith and Nasir Bowers might be the best in the MAC. Smith made 58 tackles, broke up 14 passes, and picked off two passes. Bowers was a dynamic producer on the other side with 44 tackles and two interceptions, including a pick six. Brandon Awls should be an All-MAC safety after making 72 tackles with four picks, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren was all over the place with 61 stops, and the transfer portal is bringing the depth. Toledo Rockets Key to the Season Get running again. In the first eight seasons of the Jason Candle era, the Rockets weren't even close to averaging fewer than four yards per carry for a full season. Last year's offense averaged 3.45 yards per carry. Toledo Rockets Key Player Jonathan Harder, OT Jr. Toledo should always be good for a few All-MAC performers on the line, but last year there was a problem for the ground game. Overall, the front five wasn't strong enough. Enter the 6-4, 330-pound transfer from Cincinnati, who has to lock down and shine on the left side. Toledo Rockets Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss Top Transfer In: Trayvon Rudolph, WR Sr. The fifth-year senior should explode with a little more work his way. An All-MAC performer at times in his four seasons with Northern Illinois, he caught 153 passes for 2,047 yards and ten touchdowns. There's far more explosion than he was able to show over the last two years. Top Transfer Out: Jay'Quan Bostic, S RFr. Toledo miraculously got out of the transfer portal run - for now - without losing any massive parts. Bostic is a good-looking young safety who didn't see any time last season, but will work now in Eddie George's secondary at Bowling Green. Toledo Rockets Key Game at Miami University, Nov. 12 As long as Toledo plays up to its ability, talent level, and potential, this should be it. This should be the most dangerous game in a workable MAC schedule, and it comes on the road. Toledo can win everything else, lose this, and probably be fine, if it can pull this off, be shocked if it's not in the MAC title game. - 2025 Toledo Schedule Breakdown Toledo Rockets Top 10 Players 1. Junior Vandeross III, WR Sr. 2. Brandon Awls, S Jr. 3. Tucker Gleason, QB Sr. 4. Chip Trayanum, RB Sr. 5. Avery Smith, CB Sr. 6. Trayvon Rudolph, WR Sr. 7. Ethan Spoth, OG Jr. 8. Nasir Bowers, CB Sr. 9. Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, S Sr. 10. Jacob Petersen, TE Sr. Toledo Rockets 2024 Fun Stats - Time of Possession: Opponents 33:04, Toledo 26:56 - Two-Point Conversions: Toledo 6-of-7, Opponents. 4-of-8 - 2nd. Quarter Scoring: Toledo 126, Opponents 59 Toledo Rockets 2025 Season Prediction, Win Total, What Will Happen Even when Toledo isn't at its best, it's still good enough to be the best team in the MAC, or close to it. It'll fight the good fight in road games against Kentucky and Washington State, but it'll be the underdog in both games. If the offense is a little sharper, it should have the talent to win everything else. It won't, and it'll slip somewhere along the way - sort of like the Akron game last year - but it misses Buffalo and Ohio. That's huge, but not getting UMass and Eastern Michigan hurts. Advertisement Even so, it'll be another good year, another winning record, and a decent bowl game after playing for the MAC Championship. Set The Toledo Win Total At … 8 Likely Wins: Akron, Kent State, Morgan State 50/50 Games: Ball State, at Bowling Green, at Central Michigan, at Miami University, Northern Illinois, at Western Michigan, WKU Likely Losses: at Kentucky, at Washington State This story was originally reported by College Football News on Jun 21, 2025, where it first appeared.

Bowling Green Football Preview 2025: Falcons Make Bold Move With Eddie George
Former head coach Scot Loeffler busted it to get the Bowling Green program up to might not have won any MAC titles in his six seasons, and he went 0-3 in bowl games, but in three years, he made the Falcons good, and he pulled off two winning seasons over the two then he bolted to coach Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles Green made a bold move in its head coaching search, and it might have clobbered a home run getting Eddie Ohio State and NFL legend took over Tennessee State in 2021, and in Year Four won a conference title and got to the FCS Playoffs. He's more than ready for this gig, but the roster is a bit thin.A bowl game is possible in his first year, and if nothing else, George will bring plenty of attention to the school and the MAC. - Travis Partridge will handle the coordinator duties after cranking up the passing game for Eddie Georgia at Tennessee State. The running game won't go away, but it'll be more of a pass-heavy attack for the oft-traveled Drew Pyne to run. It's his sixth year in college, getting most of his production in a 2,021-yard, 22-touchdown pass season with Notre Dame in 2022. Lucian Anderson is still around after getting in a little bit of work as the No. 2 man last year. - The receiving corps remains strong, but record-setting tight end Harold Fannin Jr. is off to the Cleveland Browns. Coming in is Arlis Boardingham (Florida), who made 44 grabs with six scores over the last two years with the Hogan is a good outside option with experience, and now he'll get the ball his way more. Rahkeem Smith is the leading returning receiver with 25 catches. - The backs won't be used as much as the receivers, but they won't be forgotten. JUCO transfer Chris McMillian has the quickness, and 22-pound Mar'Kel Porter should bring more thump.- The line has veteran parts. Tunde Fatukasi started out at Rutgers and worked last year as the Falcons' left tackle. Alex Padgett is a 330-pound interior blocker who can play guard or center, Jake Burns will likely work in the middle, and Nate Pabst can go anywhere. - Defensive coordinator Brandon Fisher comes over from Tennessee State after a strong season. His Tiger D was terrific at getting into the backfield and great at taking the ball away. Unlike the offense, the defense will rely more on the transfer portal, except for …- The line gets back a slew of Falcons. Myles Bradley can be used as an outside linebacker or pass rushing edge option, and Collins Acheampong will get his shot on the other side after not seeing time at Miami or UCLA. There's not a ton of experience on the inside, but everyone in the rotation has been around the program for a few years. - The linebacking corps needs a ton of work. Gideon Lampron (Dayton) was a monster tackler last year at the lower level - more on him in a moment - and after him it's … it'll take a bit. Several career backups need to rise up in fall camp.- The starting four/five in the secondary should be okay, but the depth isn't there, at least coming out of the offseason. Mayes Doggan (NW Missouri State) and JoJo Johnson (Indiana) are expected to step in and take over on the corners. Kal-El Pascal should grow into one of the safety gigs, and after missing a bulk of last season, Darius Lorfils will be one of the team's leading tacklers. Bowling Green Falcons Key to the Season The offensive line has to will need tweaking under the new coaching staff, but the offensive line has the potential to be an early strength. At the very least, it has more stability than other last year's starting five allowed too many tackles for loss and was just okay for the ground game. If the line is good, a slew of other things should fall into place. Bowling Green Falcons Key Player Drew Pyne, QB not big, and he's not much of a rusher, but he was good enough for a year at Notre Dame before the staff went big in the portal. He never clicked at Arizona State, and wasn't able to push for the Missouri gig. He has the big-time experience to be a leader, and he needs to make everyone around him better. Bowling Green Falcons Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss Top Transfer In: Gideon Lampron, LB only 5-11ish and 215ish pounds, but he plays big, and he plays fast. After getting his feet wet as a sophomore at Dayton, he was unstoppable last season with 119 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and 26.5 tackles for loss, and he needs to be the same sort of game-wrecker for the Transfer Out: Alex Wollschaelger, OT the offensive line should be a plus, and the new staff can move some guys around, but the 6-7, 295-pound Wollschlaeger is a special blocker with NFL potential if he can crank up the weight. He'll get a chance to show off at Kentucky. Bowling Green Falcons Key Game Liberty, Sept. 13How fast can the program get up to speed? It should beat Lafayette to start the season, it'll get rocked by Cincinnati, and later at Louisville, and the opening two MAC games are against Ohio on the road followed up by a date with are other winnable games on the slate, so if the Falcons can get by Liberty, the dream of getting to six wins isn't crazy.- 2025 Bowling Green Schedule Breakdown Bowling Green Falcons Top 10 Players 1. Gideon Lampron, LB Sr.2. Drew Pyne, QB Sr.3. Arlis Boardingham TE Jr.4. Rahkeem Smith, WR Sr.5. Tunde Fatukasi, OT Sr.6. John Henderson, P Sr.7. Finn Hogan, WR Sr.8. Jake Burns, OG/C Sr.9. Alex Padgett, OG/C Sr.10. Collins Acheampong, DE Soph. Bowling Green Falcons 2024 Fun Stats - Fumbles: Bowling Green 18 (lost 5), Bowling Green 10 (lost 2)- 3rd Quarter Scoring: Bowling Green 73, Opponents 40- Punt Return Average: Opponents 10.4 yards, Bowling Green 4.5 yards Bowling Green Falcons 2025 Season Prediction, Win Total, What Will Happen How fast can this all be put together? The starting 22 should be okay, but the depth will be a problem over the first half of the season. The Falcons will take plenty of lumps, but Akron, at Kent State, Lafayette, and at UMass all have to be wins. There should be another victory after that, but again, any injury blips will screw this bunch a true rebuild, but as these things go, it might not be too The Bowling Green Win Total At … 5Likely Wins: Lafayette50/50 Games: Akron, Buffalo, Central Michigan, at Eastern Michigan, at Kent State, at UMassLikely Losses: at Cincinnati, Liberty, at Louisville, at Ohio, Toledo © 2025 The Arena Group Holdings, Inc. Explained: Why Southampton vs Arsenal Isn't on TV in the UK Today
Why Southampton vs Arsenal Is Not on TV in the UK Today As the Premier League season draws to a close, all eyes are naturally on the biggest narratives of the final day. Yet, for Arsenal supporters keen to watch their side sign off against Southampton, the news is not what they might have hoped for — the match is not being televised live in the UK. Advertisement While other fixtures with higher stakes have been selected for broadcast, this particular match has slipped through the net, leaving fans to search for highlights or follow via live updates. It is a curious yet entirely logical outcome in a season where broadcasting priorities are increasingly driven by final-day drama. Arsenal's Season Concludes Quietly on the South Coast Arsenal arrive at St Mary's having already secured a second-place finish in the Premier League and with it, a return to the Champions League. Their 1-0 victory over Newcastle in the penultimate round was a case of businesslike execution, underlining the progress made under Mikel Arteta, even if the title challenge ultimately fizzled out sooner than many had hoped. Photo: IMAGO What's left is a match devoid of consequence, at least from a standings perspective. Southampton, long relegated, have endured a dismal campaign, and for them, this final fixture is more a formality than a farewell parade. For Arsenal, the game serves as a punctuation mark to what has been a season of tangible improvement yet lingering frustration. TV Rights and the Final-Day Puzzle So why isn't Southampton vs Arsenal on TV in the UK? Advertisement The answer lies in how final-day broadcast rights are allocated. Sky Sports, which had the first two picks, opted to show Liverpool vs Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea — matches where the result carries significant weight in the race for European qualification. Liverpool, crowned Premier League champions, will lift the trophy at Anfield. That ceremony, plus the atmosphere surrounding it, guarantees compelling television. Meanwhile, Forest and Chelsea are both still mathematically in the fight for a Champions League place, making their encounter another prime selection. TNT Sports, with the third choice, selected Manchester United vs Aston Villa. Again, it is a match laced with narrative tension. Villa, still harbouring hopes of European football, must beat a wounded United side, bruised from their Europa League final loss to Tottenham. All of which leaves Arsenal, already confirmed runners-up and facing a Southampton side with nothing to play for, as an afterthought — at least in the eyes of broadcasters. Advertisement Need a VPN to watch the match? Our preferred VPN to watch UK TV from anywhere is – they offer a 48 hour no-obligation free trial and have apps or all popular devices including Mac, Windows, FireTV, iPhone/iPad and Android. Premier League's Broadcast Focus Reflects Drama, Not Prestige That Arsenal, one of the biggest clubs in England, are not on TV on the final day might seem surprising. Yet it's a reflection of how live broadcast decisions are made. Prestige and pedigree alone no longer guarantee coverage. Stakes matter more than status. With five clubs still in the mix for Champions League qualification, broadcasters are naturally drawn to fixtures with live permutations. That Southampton vs Arsenal is a 'dead rubber' is not a slight on the Gunners, but rather a sign of how broadcast priorities are evolving. Arsenal's Attention Turns to Summer and Beyond For Arsenal supporters, the lack of TV coverage is a minor annoyance in what has otherwise been a year of forward momentum. A return to Europe's elite competition has been achieved, and while the Premier League title remains elusive, the squad and style of play offer genuine reasons for optimism. Advertisement Mikel Arteta now faces a crucial summer. Recruitment will be key, particularly with Champions League football on the horizon. There's also the need to deepen the squad, sharpen the attack, and instil the sort of resilience that saw Manchester City pull away in the title run-in. As for today, the match may be off-screen for UK fans, but its implications — however minimal — still form part of the broader Premier League tapestry.
