Dave Shapiro, who represented such bands as Sum 41, Lamb of God, Pierce the Veil, Opeth, Parkway Drive, Built to Spill, I Prevail, Clutch, GWAR, and more as owner of Sound Talent Group, died in a plane crash in San Diego on Thursday morning (May 22nd).
Two other Sound Talent Group employees and other individuals, all of whom have not been publicly identified yet, were also killed when the 1985 Cessna Citation aircraft crashed at roughly 4 a.m. in the Tierrasanta neighborhood, reports Billboard. The plane crashed onto a residential block, setting several homes on fire. UPDATE: One of the other victims has been identified as Daniel Williams, founding drummer of the metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada. Details here.
'We are devastated by the loss of our co-founder, colleagues and friends,' said a spokesperson for Sound Talent Group. 'Our hearts go out to their families and to everyone impacted by today's tragedy. Thank you so much for respecting their privacy at this time.'
Shapiro previously worked at The Agency Group and United Talent Agency before launching Sound Talent Group with Tim Borror and Matt Andersen.
Billboard notes that Shapiro was an experienced pilot, and owned the company Velocity Aviation, where he also served as a flight instructor.
In addition to the aforementioned bands, Sound Talent Group also represents such acts as Animals as Leaders, Beartooth, Between the Buried and Me, Black Veil Brides, Corrosion of Conformity, Devin Townsend, Down, Helmet, Hot Water Music, In This Moment, Killswitch Engage, Story of the Year, Zakk Wylde, and dozens more.
Earlier this year, Sound Talent Group announced the 'Summer of Loud Tour,' a North American metalcore package featuring Beartooth, I Prevail, Killswitch Engage, and Parkway Drive that is set to kick off June 22nd.
Our condolences go out to the families and friends of Dave Shapiro and the other victims of this plane crash. A video featuring Shapiro when he worked at The Agency Group, as well as a news report on the crash, can be seen below.

Photos: S.F. Juneteenth Parade a joyful celebration of Black freedom and heritage

The third annual San Francisco Juneteenth Parade enlivened Market Street on Sunday with an array of floats and performers, united by the theme of Black pride. A dozen block parties were in full swing through the duration of the parade, from the Embarcadero to Civic Center. The parties featured children's activities, a car show, games, giveaways, line dancing, musical performances and dances. San Francisco's parade was one of many events around the Bay Area this month celebrating Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when slaves in Galveston, Texas, learned of their emancipation more than two years earlier. President Joe Biden declared June 19 a federal holiday four years ago, though his successor, President Donald Trump, did not sign a proclamation celebrating Juneteenth this year. Trump, who has sought to end diversity, equity and inclusion policies nationwide, has said the U.S. has 'too many non-working holidays' and that they harm the economy. Regardless, the mood was celebratory and upbeat Thursday during the Hella Juneteenth Festival at the Oakland Museum of California, where hundreds of people enjoyed live music, food and drinks while acknowledging the added significance of the holiday this year under Trump. Last weekend, San Francisco's Fillmore neighborhood celebrated Juneteenth with a party spanning eight blocks featuring performers, vendors, games and a fashion show.

'Roadblock': Paramount Stock (NASDAQ:PARA) Surges as the Trump Settlement Sputters

As it turns out, entertainment giant Paramount (PARA) was actually fairly close to a deal with President Trump over the 60 Minutes lawsuit. But, when the deal was fairly close, a 'roadblock' emerged and put a halt to the whole matter, at least for now. Investors reacted with surprising strength, and perhaps even more surprising positivity. Paramount shares gained nearly 2.5% in the closing minutes of Friday's trading. Confident Investing Starts Here: The settlement had reached $35 million, reports noted, when Paramount suddenly found itself paralyzed by indecision. That delay caused Trump lawyers to pivot and pull back to their original demand, calling for a $50 million settlement. The biggest problem seems to be that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is also involved in this, and needs to sign off on the merger with Skydance as well. Reports suggested that Paramount brass believes that the FCC's sign-off on the deal needs to be contingent on settling the case, but by like token, the idea that requiring FCC approval as part of the settlement looks a lot like a bribe. Trump's legal team, reports note, has already been clear that the Trump suit and the FCC case are two separate matters. But with outside organizations looking to launch their own lawsuits should the settlement go through, looks may count for more here than anyone expected. South Park Losses Mount Meanwhile, as Paramount faces the prospect of losing South Park exclusivity, it quietly pulled another old episode from the field. The pull this time showed up in the Canadian and Australian markets, reports noted, and this time, featured Butters' Very Own Episode pulled from Paramount+. Why, however, is a bit of a mystery. Several South Park episodes are apparently a bit too spicy for streaming, in retrospect, with around a dozen classic episodes set to be pulled from the catalog and relegated to a 'ban list', reports noted. The reports got stranger as an Australian viewer noted that the Paramount+ listing had been pulled, but the episode could still be watched by watching through Paramount+ on Amazon (AMZN) Prime Video. Is Paramount Stock a Good Buy Right Now? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on PARA stock based on two Buys, eight Holds and five Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 18.62% rally in its share price over the past year, the average PARA price target of $12.08 per share implies 2.23% downside risk.
