MIRI (June 23): A total of 29 foreign nationals were detained by the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) Sarawak during an 'Ops Gegar' raid at an entertainment outlet in Niah here yesterday.
According to a statement from JIM Sarawak, the operation, conducted around midnight by 11 officers from JIM Sarawak's Special Action Team (PTK), aimed to curb vice and illegal activities, particularly those involving foreign workers without valid work permits.
'A total of 64 individuals were inpected during the raid, leading to the detention of 29 for various offences.
'The individuals, comprising 19 males and 10 females, are being investigated under Immigation Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations for offences such as employing workers without valid permits and misuse of permits,' the department stated.
JIM Sarawak urged the public, especially business owners to always abide to the law when employing foreign workers.
'Hiring foreign workers through illegal channels not only violates the law but can also result in negative implications, including exploitation and security issues.

Chinese, Bangladeshis nabbed as scam and e-waste ops busted

KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department has busted an online scam ring and illegal e-waste site in Klang Valley, arresting dozens of foreigners including Chinese and Bangladeshi nationals after surveillance and public tip offs. Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said following intelligence gathering, two high-end residences in Kajang and Kuala Lumpur were raided on suspicion of being used for scam activities last Thursday. During the raids, Immigration detained four men, three women and a young girl from China, along with one Taiwanese man, he said. "All those arrested, aged between four and 43, are suspected of committing offences under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963," Zakaria said in a statement today. In an another operation, enforcement officials detained 39 foreigners during a raid on an illegal electronic waste (e-waste) disposal centre in Pulau Indah, Klang. Zakaria said those arrested included Chinese nationals and Bangladeshi men, aged between 25 and 49. Both the raids were conducted by enforcement officers from the Immigration Department headquarters in Putrajaya, with cooperation from the National Registration Department (NRD). Zakaria warned that the Immigration Department would not compromise with foreigners who stay illegally, overstay, or abuse their passes in the country.

Kota Kinabalu: Some 187 illegal immigrants were detained in three separate operations conducted by the Sabah Immigration Department on Wednesday. The operations were carried out in two squatter areas and a construction site in Inanam, Luyang and Telipok. Advertisement Sabah Immigration Director Datuk SH Sitti Saleha Habib Yusoff said the simultaneous operations from 1am involved 108 officers and personnel. She said a total of 260 individuals were inspected, resulting in 187 of them detained for committing offences under the Immigration Act. 'Those arrested comprise 41 men, 43 women, 56 boys and 46 girls from the Philippines as well as an Indonesian,' she said in a statement. Sitti said all detained were taken to the Kota Kinabalu Enforcement Division Office for the documentation process as well as further investigations under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having identification documents. According to her, the department has conducted a total of 765 operations this year. She said some 15,092 individuals were inspected in the operations, with 2,777 illegals detained, while 6,290 individuals have been repatriated to their countries of origin. She urged the public to channel information related to illegal immigrants to the department for immediate action. Members of the public, especially employers, are advised not to protect or employ illegal immigrants as they would face legal action.
