Former Ohio State football player Kirk Barton charged in deadly Dublin crash
Former Ohio State offensive lineman Kirk Barton faces aggravated vehicular manslaughter charges after a fatal crash early June 21 in Dublin.
Barton, 40, of Lewis Center, is accused of speeding in the early-morning crash that killed Ethan Wence Perry, 24, address unknown, according to a post on the City of Dublin's website. Police received a report of the crash shortly before 3 a.m.
Barton was driving a Ford F-150 Raptor pickup eastbound on U.S. 33 before he crashed into Perry's westbound Lexus on West Bridge Street, just west of Franklin Street, the city said.
Perry died at the scene.
The city says the initial police investigation indicates that Barton was speeding at the time of the crash, but police have not said how fast they suspect Barton of driving.
The crash shuttered West Bridge Street and North High Street for hours. The roads reopened about 7 hours after the crash.
Police took Barton into custody and transferred him to the Franklin County Jail, where he remained as of 1 p.m. June 21 with no bond. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on June 23 in Franklin County Municipal Court.

He earned first-team All-American honors and was team captain for the 11-2 Big Ten championship-winning Ohio State team in 2007 before being drafted in the Chicago Bears in the seventh round of the NFL draft.
Barton has a history of traffic offenses, according to Franklin County Municipal Court records, including:
Driving 81 mph along Interstate 270 on Feb. 23, 2022. He paid a $172 fine, according to court records.
He pleaded down an operative vehicle while intoxicated charge to reckless operation and failure to stop after his Aug. 20, 2017, arrest in Columbus, court records say. He received a fine and a 180-day license suspension.
On Feb. 3, 2010, he was arrested on suspicion of OVI. Court records show the charge was dismissed and he paid a small fine for a traffic violation.
He paid a $150 fine after being cited for driving 70 mph in a 65-mph zone on Feb. 7, 2008, court records say.
