Did you feel it? 4.5 magnitude earthquake near San Antonio felt across Central Texas
San Antonians experienced an earthquake Wednesday evening, according to the United States Geological Survey.
Here's what we know:
The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 4.5 and occurred at 9:26 p.m. near Falls City, USGS says.
Based on data from USGS, it appears that the Falls City earthquake is the primary shock of a series that started with four smaller tremors, ranging in magnitude from 1.6 to 2.9, during the first few weeks of January.
Texas is not usually known for frequent or severe earthquakes compared to states like California. However, Texas does experience some seismic activity. According to USGS, there have been a series of small to moderate earthquakes in recent years, particularly in the northern part of the state around the Dallas-Fort Worth area and in West Texas. Some of these quakes have been linked to increased oil and gas activities, including hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and wastewater injection.
Earthquake Track has ranked the strongest earthquakes in Texas history. The oldest, which hit 7 miles southwest of Valentine, is also the strongest earthquake recorded in the state.

According to a series of posts on X from Peru's National Emergency Center, or COEN, and National Institute of Civil Defense, or INDECI, the 6.1-magnitude quake sent 36 people to hospitals around Lima. Eleven of the injured have reportedly since been discharged, while the condition and nature of the injuries suffered by the 25 still hospitalized is unclear. The death was reported to have occurred in Lima's Independencia district. Fourteen health facilities were also damaged, as were 13 educational institutions. An unspecified number of homes were reported to have collapsed in the Mi Perú district in the province of Callao. Peruvian President Dina Boluarte Zegarra's office announced Sunday that the coastline was being monitored after the incident, which the United States Geological Survey measured as a 5.6-magnitude earthquake, with an epicenter about 14 miles southwest of Callao. A 3.6-magnitude aftershock was also reported in Callao province.

At least one person killed, several injured, after earthquake hits Peru
At least one person has been killed, and five others injured after a 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit Peru and was felt throughout the capital, Lima. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said on Sunday that the earthquake occurred at 11:35am (16:35 GMT) local time in the Pacific Ocean, with its epicentre located 23km (14 miles) southwest of Callao, a port city west of the capital Lima. The Peruvian presidency reported that the magnitude of the earthquake was higher than the USGS assessment, registering a 6.1 magnitude. The earthquake did not generate a tsunami warning. In a post on X, the presidency said that President Dina Boluarte was currently travelling to Callao to monitor the coast following the tremor. Police Colonel Ramiro Clauco told the Peruvian broadcaster RPP radio that a 36-year-old man died in northern Lima while 'standing outside his vehicle waiting for a passenger'. The Emergency Operations Centre added that five people were being treated in the hospital and damage had been reported to roads and educational centres. According to Hernando Tavera, executive president of the Geophysical Institute of Peru, who spoke with local TV channel N, all districts in Lima felt the earthquake. Local radio stations also reported that the quake led to the cancellation of a major football match scheduled to be held in Lima. The South American country lies on what is known as the 'Ring of Fire', a path along the Pacific Ocean that is frequently struck by earthquakes and active volcanic activity, with Peru averaging at least 100 detectable earthquakes every year. The last major earthquake occurred in 2021 in the Amazon region, registering a magnitude of 7.5, and left 12 people injured, destroying more than 70 homes. The most disastrous earthquake to hit the country was in 1970 and struck the Ancash region of Peru, causing mass landslides that resulted in the deaths of about 70,000 people.

An earthquake off Peru's coast shakes capital, leaving 1 person dead and 5 injured
LIMA, Peru -- A 5.6 magnitude earthquake that struck off Peru's central coast Sunday, rattling Lima and the port city of Callao, has left one person dead and five injured, authorities said. The earthquake happened at 11:35 a.m. local time in the Pacific Ocean, according to the United States Geological Survey. Its epicenter was located 23 kilometers (14 miles) southwest of Callao, west of the capital Lima. A 36-year-old man died in northern Lima while 'standing outside his vehicle waiting for a passenger' when a wall from the fourth floor of a building under construction detached and fell on his head, Police Col. Ramiro Clauco told RPP radio. The five people injured are being treated in hospitals, the Emergency Operations Center said. The agency also reported damage to roads and educational centers. President Dina Boluarte is heading to Callao to monitor developments, the Peruvian presidency said on X. Footage shared by local media also showed cars hit by falling debris, damaged houses and collapsed billboards. All of Lima's districts felt the earthquake, Hernando Tavera, executive president of the Geophysical Institute of Peru, told local TV channel N. Local radio stations reported that a professional football match at Lima's Alberto Gallardo Stadium was paused for several minutes.
