Formula E's half-indoor, half-outdoor London race to get one final run-out
Formula E have released their calendar for the 2026 season and the flagship race the ExCeL Centre in east London has been included, but is expected to be the final time it is used
Formula E's flagship season finale in London will get one final run-out in 2026.
The event at the ExCeL Centre in the east London docklands will host the final two rounds of the 2025/26 season, as confirmed by the calendar release on Tuesday.
But it is expected to be the final time that Formula E race on the unique half-indoor, half-outdoor circuit, as car capabilities are set to outgrow the venue.
FE signed a deal to race at the ExCeL until the end of the Gen3Evo era, which includes this season and next.
However, the Gen4 car is expected to be even faster and even more powerful than before, meaning the tight circuit is unlikely to be sufficient.
The current Formula E car gets from 0-60mph in just 1.8 seconds - quicker than an F1 car. The indoor land speed world record was broken by Formula E at the London race weekend in 2023, when British driver Jake Hughes hit 135.9mph in a specially-adapted car.
Speaking exclusively to the Mirror earlier this season, Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds said: "The ExCeL are amazing people to work with, and it's a great venue. You've got 50,000 people over the weekend, the inside-outside is cool, the activations are really good.
"But clearly, we need a home in the UK for Gen4 onwards. I think there are only two logical routes to that.
"One is you find an alternative in London, an alternative location. There are other big areas of London that are going through regeneration that could be great for a motor racing circuit.
"Or we find a permanent racing circuit that delivers against our objectives in the UK. We haven't made that decision yet. All bets are on in that respect."
A new race in Madrid at the Jarama circuit has been added to the calendar for next season. Formula E have long wanted to race in the Spanish capital, with it being the hometown of the series' founders.

Australia will be Russell's third expedition with the Lions, with all three set to be very different experiences. In 2017 in New Zealand he was part of the controversial 'Geography Six', a group of Scotland and Wales players who were called into Warren Gatland's squad not on merit but because of their close proximity while on summer tours. Four years later he travelled to South Africa where all matches were played behind closed doors due to the pandemic, denying the Lions their famed 'sea of red' support. The Bath ringmaster started the third Test against the Springbocks. 'New Zealand was still amazing because it was my first time being called up to the Lions,' Russell said. 'We weren't there for the whole tour, but to have gone to New Zealand and played was really cool for me. 'And then in 2021 it was special going the whole time, even though it was Covid. We couldn't have family and friends or fans at the game, but it was still amazing in a different way. 'In terms of the boys, we probably got to know each other a little bit better because it was just us in the hotel and whatnot. I'm looking forward to what this one's going to be like.'

Marcus Rashford has been tight-lipped on his uncertain future so far this summer but now the Manchester United star has broken his silence, hinting at a dream move to Barcelona Marcus Rashford has dropped his biggest hint yet that he wants to join Barcelona. Rodri impressing fellow Man City midfielder Nico Gonzalez as he ramps up fitness
Ballon d'Or-winning midfielder Rodri missed most of Manchester City's 2024-25 campaign after suffering a serious knee injury last September. He returned to action by playing seven minutes in City's penultimate Premier League fixture against Bournemouth last month and came on for the last half-hour of Wednesday's 2-0 victory over Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca in Philadelphia. Gonzalez, who plays in a similar position, was signed by City in January partly to provide cover for Rodri. The 23-year-old believes he can learn a lot from his fellow Spaniard, who he feels is 'even better' than he thought. Gonzalez said: 'He has been (back training) a couple of months. He is an amazing player and really good in everything that can be good in a midfielder. 'I am trying to learn the most I can and I think I am starting to watch him at his best level. I am seeing things that I haven't seen in a lot of midfielders. 'I try to see all the passes the players don't see and take as much from him as I can. He helps me a lot. He is Spanish so we are starting to have a good relationship.' Gonzalez's signing came alongside those of Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov in the mid-season transfer window as City began to respond to their underwhelming season. The squad overhaul has continued with the arrivals of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders and Marcus Bettinelli this month. Yet while City have clearly decided fresh faces are required after a failure to mount a strong title challenge and a premature Champions League exit, Gonzalez does not feel there was ever anything wrong with the spirit. He said: 'The mentality of all these players was always good. I don't think the mentality is what didn't make us win a trophy. I think the attitude and mentality was really good. 'Sometimes you have a better season, sometimes worse. I hope this season is the best possible.' City play their second match at the Club World Cup, and could secure a place in the last 16, when they face Al Ain of Abu Dhabi in Atlanta on Sunday night (2am Monday BST).
