Jakarta E-Prix 2025: All about the Ancol Beach Circuit ready to host Formula E race

Image credit: Formula E As the Formula E season reaches Round 12, the drivers are set to head to Indonesia for the Jakarta E-Prix. The single-header will be held at the picturesque Ancol Beach street track in Jakarta on June 21. The venue is Southeast Asia's largest park, which sees around 40,000 visitors a day. The race marks the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship's return to Jakarta after Season 9. Here's all about the track that will host the Gen3 Evo race for the first time. All about the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit in Ancol The design of the 2.37 km Ancol Beach track is inspired by the Kuda Lumping—a flat horse woven from bamboo and decorated with colourfully painted cloth, which a dancer rides for the traditional Javanese dance. The dancers appear to enter a trance-like state during the dance, which requires a lot of physical power. The track features unique banked sections, undulations, bumps, and a mix of technical and high-speed zones, all expected to test the skill of the Formula E drivers. The 18-turn circuit kicks off with a tight opening sector after a long run down the start/finish straight. There is plenty of room for manoeuvre into the right-hander at Turn 1 before drivers head into a flowing series of turns that swoop by Ancol Beach City. The final sector is a tricky complex following a fast right-hander at Turn 12 and another long straight into what will be a busy Turn 13 hairpin. An awkward left-hander at Turn 18 rounds out the lap, with a strong slingshot required down the long home straight. The circuit also aims to help revive tourism in the island nation, which was significantly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The last Jakarta E-Prix was held in Season 9 (2023–24), marking the second race after the inaugural edition in 2022. This will be the third time the Formula E race is held in Jakarta. Andretti's Jake Dennis had secured second place on the podium in both races, along with setting the fastest lap in the second race.

Formula E's half-indoor, half-outdoor London race to get one final run-out

Formula E have released their calendar for the 2026 season and the flagship race the ExCeL Centre in east London has been included, but is expected to be the final time it is used Formula E's flagship season finale in London will get one final run-out in 2026. The event at the ExCeL Centre in the east London docklands will host the final two rounds of the 2025/26 season, as confirmed by the calendar release on Tuesday. ‌ But it is expected to be the final time that Formula E race on the unique half-indoor, half-outdoor circuit, as car capabilities are set to outgrow the venue. ‌ FE signed a deal to race at the ExCeL until the end of the Gen3Evo era, which includes this season and next. However, the Gen4 car is expected to be even faster and even more powerful than before, meaning the tight circuit is unlikely to be sufficient. The current Formula E car gets from 0-60mph in just 1.8 seconds - quicker than an F1 car. The indoor land speed world record was broken by Formula E at the London race weekend in 2023, when British driver Jake Hughes hit 135.9mph in a specially-adapted car. Speaking exclusively to the Mirror earlier this season, Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds said: "The ExCeL are amazing people to work with, and it's a great venue. You've got 50,000 people over the weekend, the inside-outside is cool, the activations are really good. "But clearly, we need a home in the UK for Gen4 onwards. I think there are only two logical routes to that. ‌ "One is you find an alternative in London, an alternative location. There are other big areas of London that are going through regeneration that could be great for a motor racing circuit. "Or we find a permanent racing circuit that delivers against our objectives in the UK. We haven't made that decision yet. All bets are on in that respect." A new race in Madrid at the Jarama circuit has been added to the calendar for next season. Formula E have long wanted to race in the Spanish capital, with it being the hometown of the series' founders. Formula E calendar 2025/26 Round 1: Sao Paulo, Brazil, December 6 Round 2: Mexico City, Mexico, January 10 Round 3: Miami, Florida, USA, January 31 Rounds 4&5: Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 13-14 February Round 6: Madrid, Spain, March 21 Rounds 7&8: Berlin, Germany, 2-3 May Round 9&10: Monte Carlo, Monaco, 16-17 May Round 11: TBC, May 30 Round 12: TBC, June 20 Rounds 13&14: Shanghai, China, 4-5 July Rounds 15&16: Tokyo, Japan, 25-26 July Rounds 17&18: London, United Kingdom, 15-16 August

Shanghai E-Prix 2025 weather forecast: Expect two dramatically different races

Image credit: Formula E Rain seems to go hand in hand with most of the Formula E races, as after the rain played spoilsport in Tokyo as well as Monaco, a shower is again expected during one of the two races lined up at the Shanghai E-Prix. One can expect two very different races at the Shanghai International Circuit, with the double-header having a dry race as well as a rain-hit race on the cards this weekend. Shanghai E-Prix 2025 weather forecast According to the first day of the Shanghai E-Prix, May 30, will be dry but cloudy, as the Formula E drivers will have a free practice session at the Shanghai International Circuit. The temperature will be around 28 degrees Celsius, and there are no chances of a shower. The temperature on day 2, May 31, is expected to be in the range of 26–27 degrees Celsius. The day will begin with the second free practice session, to be followed by the qualifying race in the afternoon. It will be cloudy the entire day, with no chances of rain in the morning and noon. However, there are eleven percent chances of rain during the Round 10 Formula E race in the late afternoon at 3:05 PM local time (12:35 PM IST). Interestingly, the Round 11 Formula E race can be entirely different from the Round 10 race a day before, as there are 80–90 percent chances of rain. Day 3 of the Shanghai E-Prix will begin with the third free practice session, to be followed by the Round 11 qualifying race and then the final race at 3:05 PM local time (12:35 PM IST). There will also be a significant fall in temperature, which will be in the range of 17–19 degrees Celsius. What's new at the Shanghai E-Prix The Gen3 Evo cars will make their debut in China in the upcoming double-header. The Shanghai E-Prix will also feature the return of the mandatory Pit Boost feature, which has been introduced in Season 11 for double-header events. This strategic element will be implemented during Round 10 on Saturday. Every driver must use it once, but each team has only one Pit Boost rig. This means teammates can't use it at the same time, adding an important strategic twist that could affect the outcome of the race.
